Thanks Tim, was just wondering as there's a Tim Brown in TfL who is responsible for running the Rail section i.e. London Rail of the company, is that you?
@Andyhinds It was because it was so tedious. 28 stops in 22 miles and you'd go round twice in an average turn and three times on a Saturday afternoon in 9 hours with one 20 min break. I couldn't wait to get into the main line link and drive real trains.
I remember the line when it was operated by both L1 locos and then 2-car DMU's. The latter often found it difficult to get up the incline at Straford low level and a cheer would go up when the driver successfully rolled it back and then stormed up the incline! Ahh- happy memories.
It's a shame really. We should be opening railway lines up, not closing them down! Nobody seems to realize that railways bring people together. Everybody's just in it for the money now, if there's no money, there's no service.
The line from North Woolwich could create a good home for retiring Class 313 sets. North Woolwich station is a museum within a station, judging by what I've seen from Video 125's DVD on the North London Line.
It's true I use to love the journey's from Stratford to North Woolwich I use to belike another world, I swear there use to be a museum at North Woolwich too?@Welwyn22
Good film Noddingcat, do you live in Newham? The grey building in the centre of the screen (5:14) behind the trees is Gondrand (UK). I worked there for 6 years, left in 2002.
One of the best things I have seen on YouTube.Super editing, music, and you caught just about everything..apart from that crazy isolated high victorian gothic church of St.Mark by the abandoned level crossing in Silvertown.(spire just visible in one shot.Thanks.
What song is this? It sounds like Billie Holiday. Anyways, nice footage of the route, some of which will become DLR, some of which may be abandoned or something (or here's an idea....perhaps a tram? Or what do you think should happen to that remaining part?)
Yeah, the line closed so that the Stratford to Canning Town Section could be converted to DLR Operation, however, the Silverlink Trains will actually terminate at a different position in Stratford once DLR Conversion is underway and not parralel with the Jubilee Line Platforms. There is also no need to deal with Canning Town to Woolwich as a near identical route is served by the DLR.

Fantastic! This has been put together really well. Shame they closed that line, but it wasn't making any money, but still a shame

I used to drive those trains on that route from 1989 to 1992. I bloody hated it!

Why did you hate it?@Andyhinds

I miss the Stratford - North Woolwich
But a 313/378 isnt needed anymore
The DLR will cut cost and hopefully be more faster and hopefully more safer

@lionsheart8 There was a museum there now closed, it was supposed to reopen but hasn't happened so far.
Some of the display cases went to the Epping Ongar Railway.

No it's the now closed trainline from Stratford Low Level to North Woolwich.
There will be an extension to Stratford International, which will be North of the present Stratford Station.
It'll follow the line in this film from Canning town to Stratford.
The section from Canning Town to North Woolwich has had many suggestions for its use, but not DLR.
