God. Seems slow. I have a PH2 1998 1.9D and that gets to 60 much quicker. First and second gear are crucial and you have to really rev it then it pulls really well in 3rd and 4th.
Great car though. Regularly go to Germany to visit family. 42mpg on the autobahn 85-100 mph!
This engine might not be fast (Definately isn't), But I have one, and have had one before it as well, took it to over 280k miles and bar usual wear and tear, it didn't go wrong.
These Non Turbo engine are built more for endurance than speed, hence why a lot of Taxi Drivers had Pug 405's and 406's with N/A Diesel engines...they run to higher miles than the Turbo engines because there's a lot less to go wrong.
It's a DIESEL, men! You can't compare 80's diesels with today's ones, 80's diesels were designed for fuel saving on long trips, they had to sacrifice performance back then, today's Common Rail Turbo Diesels are designed to offer the performance of a gasoline engine with the fuel consumption of a diesel
@jaggass ive driven one and they use the same engin as my pug and they are gutless thought i dont think that any of them are as bad as the 1.8 enduro diesel that ford ust to fit into the escorts
@jaggass That is true thought when u drive it u can fell the tork off the engin drop off at about 4,500 then the engin just makes more noise and dosent rely gain anything untill u change geat to get back on the tork band thats why i dont rev it to redline ive found it to be faster driving in this way :)
@jaggass The TD can rev to the same, but with either engine the fuel pump limited kicks in at about 4200 and the power drops like a brick. The limiter normally won't let it go over 4800rpm. It can be removed, but you shouldn't. Diesels smash valves a hell of a lot easier than petrols =)
yeh but thats when the car is new as engins ware they can go out of tune and lose power and i wouldent like to say that it is running as best it could as it does make some strange noises from time to time
the cluch cable was tight making it hard to change gear fixed that now and can change gear much quicker and smother thought in this vichical it slower to change gear later as old diesels accelerate quickest on the tork and after around 4000 revers roufley it runs out of tork and loses poer so thought it will rev it just make more noise than anything,
thats pretty good damn slow man the standard diesel had 71hp though in a car weighing 1150kg so its like 55-60hp per ton which is about the same as a 1.0 polo i had a 306dturbo it was nippy but even sluggish with a turbo lol
you're not made for peugeot !

if you think this is slow. Do 0-60 in a leyland daf pilot 1.9D. I wonder if the 1.9TD pump settings are different to a 1.9D

The endura diesel wasnt that good. if you leave escorts a day takes along time to start

@kitchy5191
we have one in work, is there any way to put the peugeot 1.9TD engine in one (LDV pilot)
vikingsmb 7 months ago
@jaggass 1.9TD are much faster. Having owned an XLD and still owning an XLdt the XLdt is much faster.
XLD 0-60 = 17 seconds
XLdt 0-60 = 12 seconds
Seems slow still, but it's good enough.
The pump is different completely because it has to compensate for when the turbo kicks in with more fuel and backs off when it's not.

the peugeot 1.9D can rev upto about 5,500rmp alot higher than the 1.9 TD.

this is strange as the zx 1.9d a bit lighter than the 306 does it in 13 secs and the stats are 16 secs for the 306 on parkers

to be honest your lucky. my 1.6 petrol does this (not quite as bad) and its struggles to hold 60 with passengers on a slight incline. piece of shit.
sirjoseph7 2 years ago
About the same speed as my 106 1.5 non turbo diesel. It has 172,000 on the clock

that sounds bout right it got 173492 miles on it now and counting

it's an automatic....
Pharell1234 2 years ago
they didnt make a diesel 306 automatic, they only made a petrol automatic and they are a lot faster.

try shifting a bit later and work on getting the gear changes a bit quicker/smoother

tweek the turbo and it becomes a bit nippier and slightly less sluggish

Bit difficult to tweek a turbo that doesn't exist.
