Wow. That pen knife is a real slicer. Amazing. I originally asked from Kyley a 1.0 and a pen knife, but changed it to a 1.0 and a paring knife. Damn. **hand to forehead**.
@1234sensei Haha, I was definitely excited! The cutting performance on that Pen Knife is utterly ridiculous and highly impressive. Apparently AEBL when properly heat treated and ground is really good stuff. I love the edge this knife has out of the box from Kyley. The convex grind he did on this one is just excellent. People on forums see his knives in pictures and they don't even respond, they think cKc is complete shit. They don't realize that cKc knives outperform most of what's out there.
@stonybrokebushcraf Yes indeed. The pen knife, in particular, is just so exciting. I've been waiting a long time for a cKc I could throw into my pocket and forget about. It's like a Victorinox style blade, but with FAR better geometry, better steel and in a full tang fixed blade format. Great comfort and performance. It's a compact powerhouse and really may be the most useful knife I own. It's already displaced every folder I own except my Sean Kendrick custom defensive folders.
@stonybrokebushcraf There is literally almost no point in carrying a Spyderco Para-Military or UKPK now that I have the cKc Pen Knife. It will outperform both of those knives with ease, even in a last ditch self defense role. I can deploy it while it's still in my pocket by just popping the sheath off with my thumb. This knife is seriously impressive and I really wish everyone could own one (Although then mine wouldn't be as special, lol).
@AussieMark909 It's really damn good. I can't stress that enough. I absolutely LOVE this pen knife and I will have it anywhere that I can legally have it. The knife will do tasks which are all out of proportion with its size. A folder of this size would be incapable of doing what it does even if it had the same geometry (And virtually nothing out there does). It's lighter, stronger and faster into action than a similarly sized folder. I'll be doing some testing later on today.
You are going to need Bigfoots sock to store that warrior in! :D
To any of those retards reading this that think using a quality Woolen Sock is "funny" to store a knife.. Think about your sad asses paying Big cash to store a knife, rather than spending the money on the knife itself. It rather have a 1000 hooker in a paper bag, than a 10$ cock-smoker in a $900 dress.
@knivesandstuff Actually it makes very good sense. They wick away moisture and of course protect the knife from dings. By the way mirror when you get the test knife back you will see your sock is a little cleaner. Mary saw it on my desk and thought it was mine and washed it. *LMAO*
@Nebulax123 Tell that to all of the morons over on pietermoore's channel. If anyone wants to see what a real personal attack looks like, read the comments section on his video entitled "Mindsmirror WOW." The people who claimed I was "personally attacking" NK (All I did was point out the errors in his claims in that retaliatory video he made in an over the top way) said things which had nothing to do with my claims. They're simply attacks on hair color, financial status, sexual orientation, etc.
@knivesandstuff Yes indeed, I need a tube sock for a 7 foot tall man, lol. I think this one will live without a sock or I will just put a sock over the handle end of it.
Who are you trying to kid? Everyone knows that knivesandstuff did not craft crude stone tools by hand, mine his own ore and coal, use brick and straw to make a crude forge, build crude metal tools and work his way up to more sophisticated tools, ultimately building a facility to manufacture power tools and a smithy to forge his own steel. You know, the way the masters have been making knives since the dawn of time.
Penknife is excellent. I've got to have one of them soon. You know I've got an APFK-B dont you waiting shipping when something else is ready.:-D.5ml N690. Yeah that blade is awesome with the tanto chisel grind. I like it. And the swords COOL. All in all I think we can say that this video was cool. I saw your eyes when the Penknife cut the paper, and to tell you the truth I have been thinking about that knife for a while. Just right for having in reach all the time. Will fit anywhere. Evil cutter
Awesome stuff man! I can't wait to pick up one of his new Streamlines when I am able to. Looks like it will suit my niche for an EDC fixed blade extraordinarily well! I'm quite attracted to the Penknife because of its all around functionality.
@bigbubba5037 Yes, I think the Streamline will be insane in either AEBL or O1 @ 60RC with triple temper and cryo treatment. I would probably go with the O1, but I would not feel disadvantaged with either steel really.
@mindsmirror I'm certain I will be happy with whichever one I get. I thought Kyley said he was doing the initial run in AEBL. I'm not sure when I will be able to acquire one though. I just need to get my name down on one.
@bigbubba5037 I'd ask about the steels when you put your name down and I'd put your name down ASAP. You wouldn't have to pay for a while. I don't think he's making all that many of them and then he is slowing down production next year. If you want one of his knives I'd put in for it now, even if it's a Pen Knife (Which is a DAMN GOOD knife man, I like it so much already).
@bigbubba5037 He told me at one point that he'd be doing some in AEBL and some in O1, but his plans can and do change depending upon circumstances. Just ask him and he'll let you know. If I had my choice, I think I'd go O1 though. I'm sure you see why now.
I really love my ABEL penknife it just keeps on cutting! When I can stand to part with it I will send you up my N690 penknife to play with it is a real ripper. My ABEL is slightly thinner than yours I think mine is 2 mil and cuts like a razor blade. If I didn't have the Persian I would be very jealous of your big knife! (Yes a video will be forthcoming on it. I haven't finished the handle yet.)
@Nebulax123 Yeah man, I'd like to test out that N690 version. The Pen Knife itself when combined with this AEBL steel is quite an impressive package. I really do think it may be the most useful knife I own for the simple fact that there is simply no reason why I can't have it on me at ALL times and for the fact that it seems to have serious cutting ability. I am astonished by its capabilities.
@knivesandstuff I will handle no knife before it's time. *LOL* That one is special and it is getting a little more attention to details. It will be worth the wait I promise.
@jdavis882 Slimline man, get the slimline as well. That is going to be a perfect neck knife. It's bigger but same thickness as the pen knife and the handle is small enough that it will still work. I will have a Slimline as well. The thing with Kyley's knives is they don't weigh anything. That slimline may seem large but it will be a featherweight and the shape will allow for neck carry as well.
I like the Pen Knife because I can pocket it, especially with that thumb ramp on the sheath.
@mindsmirror Ok I'll go with the original plan. Slimline it is. I just can't wait to get it. I have never used a knife with a proper convex on it. Should be fun!
@jdavis882 I think this Pen Knife will become my most used knife, BY FAR though. I would get both the Slimline and the Pen Knife, lol. Pen Knife first though.
I don't see why people make such a big ass deal about Kyley's F&F. If you want a knife that is a perfect looking tool, then go somewhere else. If you want a knife that will cut, then cKc is for you.
@jdavis882 Well, a lot of the forum folks hate his knives because they assume that if it isn't clean looking then the maker took shortcuts elsewhere. What they don't realize is that Kyley's knives have the best heat treat I've come across, use better steels generally (ie - Bohler) and pretty much ALWAYS have better edge geometry than anything else in their class, production or custom. The mild fit and finish flaws make you more willing to use the knife anyway. It's a tool.
@jdavis882 I can tell you that where it counts, Kyley's knives have it in spades. Where it doesn't matter, he will not spend additional time. This keeps costs down and lets you not feel bad about using it. Everything in that bag is insane, without question. It's one hell of a bag of toys.
@mindsmirror Yep that's pretty much how I feel about it. I've never been overly concerned with fit and finish. Can't take them with you to the grave, so you might as well use them. Why have perfect F&F when they are just going to get dinged up anyway.
@jdavis882 No problem, sent Nebulax123 your address or you can PM it to me and I can forward it to Nebulax123. Then when he's done he'll send it to you.
@jdavis882 I meant send, not sent. Also, just for information purposes, I measured the edge angle on this pen knife and it's approximately 13.5 degrees per side. Kyley said mine has a thicker grind too, but I prefer this grind because so far it is working wood well and as you can see it still slices paper like a mean motherfucker! I love the pen knife. You'll really like the cutting performance on that APFK-Mini. The O1 steel at 60RC is so good too.
@jdavis882 The only complaint you might level on the APFK-Mini is the handle being thin. I have no problem with it, it's a compromise so that the knife is easier to carry concealed. For me, it does not prevent me doing utility tasks, but it is a hindrance for some hand shapes. Regardless, Kyley doesn't do handles like that unless you ask and it suits the knife, so it's a non issue. I think you're going to be impressed by the O1 steel @60RC and the cutting performance though.
@jdavis882 people care about fit and finish on the forums because they know the knife is going into a safe. Sure thats a generalization.. but its true.. I can guarantee that if 80% of the knives owned by people residing on the "forums" was soft shit mild steel and not even heat-treated.. they would NEVER know.. and still pay big bucks.. This is no slight on the makers.. its just a collectors mindset.
Wow. That pen knife is a real slicer. Amazing. I originally asked from Kyley a 1.0 and a pen knife, but changed it to a 1.0 and a paring knife. Damn. **hand to forehead**.
