I have 1999 plymouth breeze it just started making that nosie Big als told me i would have to replace the engine would i have to do all that and what are the risk of driving like this ?
Already fixed it. It as the timing "Chain" tensioner. It was loosing pressure at idle when the engine oil warmed up. New cam tensioner and a valve cover gasket fixed it all up. Thanks guys.
I have heard that for some reason. Audi motors are known for a tick noise. Not sure if this is the noise they were talking about but join an online Audi forum like Audizine. Maybe they can help. I have an 98 A4 2.8Q and it seems to have the tick too. Though it isn't as loud as yours.
Had an Audi A4 1.8, had a similar sound, but it was very obvious (in my case), there is a plug on the left side of the engine, right on the top, you cant miss it, if you push it from the two sides (i.e. as if you were plugging it hard) the ticking sound goes away, my mechanic said it sometimes never comes back, in my case had to change the plug.
I own a 2003 A4 with the 1.8T. I had this exact same problem last week. I took it to the Audi Dealership and they fixed the problem under warrenty. It is caused by an oil Sludge issue. Common problem for this engine. They will only fix for free if you can prove you had all the oil changes done on time and with the proper oil (synthetic.) Lucky for me, I did them all at the dealership. The key to not happening again, get oil changed at Audi dealership every 5000, not the recommended 10k.
"common problem" that is the Phrase you hear every day being a german car owner, I heard it from people everytime yet another thing went wrong with my BMW before I realised that it actually means "badly made, badly engineered crap"
The timing CHAIN tensioner somehow was bad after I replaced the timing belt. I replaced it with a factory adjuster and the noise was gone. I was lucky enough to get one from a person who was going to replace theirs and sold the car. I believe they can be had for $300 on Ebay. Not too hard to change except for removinng a cam.
i have a brand new CCT, CCT gasket, and valve cover gasket all genuine OEM. all you need and the link for the instructions $265. thats if you still need it
Hello Fyrchicken. i have the same noise and like you said only once warm and when idling. can you tell me how much it cost and some more details about the solution. appreciate your info. thanks
Fyrchiken, how did you fix the problem? I have the same noise on my car. Did you have to replace the cam adjuster? was it difficult to change? where did you buy the parts?
well by what i've been reading seems like maybe a valve problem if the noise is comign from your head. as i said no idea haha i have the same problem with my carjust not as bad of a tickign noise and it is most noticable when driving along at low rpms then stompping on it makes a tractor liek noise or ticking

Hey dude. i have the exact problem diagnosed by Vw. How much did they charge u for that fix. I just got quoted 1600Cdn dollars.

I fixed it myself for about 400. It wasnt super hard but not for the novice mechanic. Requires removing 1 Cam slightly.

It sounds like timing chain is loose, maybe needs tensioner changed.
