In Japanese there are words that are gender neutral and thats what they used for Crona, but in the anime it was translated into he and him because its hard to translate the gender neutral japanese titles. Also, in the manga, Crona is called him and her depending on what the translater perfers. So Crona's gender is still very much unknown.
