I'm normally a huge Eyedea fan, but I do not like this song one bit. He's just describing one of PLato's ideas and speaking in time with a beat. Kinda lame compared to some of his other stuff.

You could not pay any attention to the lyrics and it would still be a chill song to just listen to. But half of this doesn't even rhyme. He's just... talking. I just think it's pretty weak for an Eyedea song, is all.

This has to be the most intellectual rap song I have ever heard. To me I understand it as an existential interpretation of Plato's Allegory of the Cave. Plato goes on to say that through reason we can step out of the cave and look to the sun to discover the Truth. This however, is to ignore the inherint subjectivety of human perception. Objectivety in external analysis is impossible so therefore we're trapped on our own islands.

@noentrie I'm intelligent, yet not necessarily educated enough to grasp the Plato aspect. But, agreed with the subjectivity portion. Human beings indulge upon opinions, and ignorance to things. When we don't know, it's not necessarily our immediate impulse to explore these not-so-given unknowns. That's why Eyedea, and intellectuals alike, encourage people to "open their minds", to try and get past that transparent barrier.

And believe me, it's very transparent.

the cubical isn't the universe its a metaphor for your brain. i believe eyedea is saying the we cannot KNOW anything of the external world, we can only know whats going on in our heads, and everything we think we know of the external world is based only on observations, and sense experience.

Astronomers have used math to determine what shape our universe may look like and how big it is, so you don't need to be outside to determine that. As far as our perception of the world around us and all of those signals that go to the subconscious and not the senses, I guess we'll never know how close our perception is to reality. Weather it's a human brain or computer sometime in the future, you will always need some means for the conscience to exist, and that means will always hold it back.

In Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" (which the song is essentially about), men are chained since birth such that they can only see the shadows of the world against the back wall of the cave, and they believe these shadows are the real world. They come to terms with the actual real world as we know it when they view it through reflections in water first, and then finally see the 'real world'. The powdered water in my view, alludes to the latter part.

Entheogens and psychedelics are the best way to get out of our 'cubicle' dont you think? Magic mushrooms, DMT, things that are not addicting and not harmful if used right.
