I worked with Guard units in Iraq. Some were as good as Active units, where as some were clearly not interested in being activated for war assignment and yes some units did in fact leave contractors without weapons in harms way. Some military units especially Guard, were not pleased that Contractors were getting paid well, while they themselves were in Iraq as guardsmen. They never expected to be at war, but national weekend warriors. hence the problem.

Bull fucken shit!!! I saw the video, those poor truckers didnt stand a chance. Preston's video stayed rollin even after smoke cleared, you can clearly see down the street, "no military personal". Not only did they bug out and leave him high and dry, they didn't even fire a shot. Wtf I see all these vids on utube showing them firing there guns at some shadows at some unkown distances. Not one shows them actually firing at enemy combatants.

@opiatkiinq Well thats not a bad idea. Except the military has come to the conclusion that civilian contractors do the job better and cheaper. Not only that. Contractors spend more time in a war zone than actual military units. Most serve 18 months and go home. Contractors work as long as 8 years in the same environment and develop superior understanding to the environment and operation. The shame is. These truck drivers should be issued weapons as needed for defense during high risk ops.

Mil Rep. states: "perimeter was established beyond the FRONT and REAR of the convoy."

What good is that? It left the drivers in the middle of the killzone for 30+ minutes. Air arrived 20+ after initial contact.

Amazing any of the drivers are still alive. Luckily focking Haji can't shoot and the Guard proved to be slightly less disorganized than Haji.

The loss that day HIT ALL OF US. You may have seen the video but are you aware that more gun trucks were behind the convoy trying to move up but do to heavy fire had a slow move up as they returned fire. IF the job was done so bad..why then were the 1173rd asked by the same civilians the following day to return to the same area to recover the trucks and not the active unite as they were assigned to them. Believe your CONSPIRACY THEORY if that is what you wish.

(1)It was about a week later for the recovery and only do to the fact that the media got a hold of this. The trucks were moved to hide them. (2) The same civilians in the ambush were NOT the ones in the recovery. (3) There were only 2 gun trucks left in the rear and did NOT move ahead to try to save Americans. (4) You can hear NO heavy gun fire in the video, only a few rounds at a time. Many of the ambushed civilians are my friends and told my the TRUTH and not your 1173rd and coverup !

The facts as seen in the video speak for themselves. The one truck stalled, the truck ahead was on its side. Nobody stopped to help, everybody ran for the hills. The gun truck ahead of the stalled truck never came back. So what if the elements in the rear were stuck, the elements in the front should have came back to engage.

Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley sent a letter to the secretary of the Army asking for answers about the deaths. In a statement Grassley, said: "I was appalled to hear that some soldiers may have abandoned a convoy of private contractor trucks that those soldiers were supposed to be protecting. I have already contacted the Army to get to the bottom of this. The families of the murdered contractors deserve honest answers."

I was a member of the Outkast Express convoy team. These people had been offered assistance by our C.O and laughed him out of the room. the next day, or two days later, they most certainly DID take a wrong turn, making a right where they should have made a left, and they got those people killed. Shortly after, two members of their unit were out on a ission with us- in my humvee- learning the route, radio procedures, and mission specifics properly.

Pride and arrogance killed those guys. Period
