  • dowload all movies?

  • i havea quiestion where do u dowload all ur movies?

  • i never tried that ! get a bigger drive and try it !

  • My concern here is if you have a HD 1080p movie in a flash drive and plugs in this device did it plays flowless cuz i have a laptop and a flash drive with a HD movie 1080p and it plays freezing.

  • right now they are iso image files

  • @tazcities iso for a movie file i never heard of that what software do you use to rip those and what software will play that movie

  • can you tell me how to rip them and what format to use

  • how do you get 600 movies in a 1T? i cant even get 20 what am i doing wrong?

  • @tazcities it depends on how you rip them ! how and what format are you ripping them at

  • @cliffbeauchamp they are iso image files

  • @tazcities

I Think That You are simly not correctly downloading the movie or you are downloading a blu ray movie. most movies are around 1.3 GB

  • @tazcities I highly doubt that or each of your movies would be 50GB - 73 times the normal size!

  • At 2:40 that's major widescreen. Video is like half the screen size vertically. Does this play backed up dvd's in the video_ts/.vob format? As in the actual dvd files from the hard drive rather than the dvd itself. I don't want to convert or have to download the movies I have to this. It's faster backing up my dvd's.

  • @jlo138 you can adjust the size ! full screen ,16.9 ect these are ripped from dvd or blu ray the dvd rips are avi, the blu rays are mkv files

  • @cliffbeauchamp Yeah I know but usually when you do that it can pixellate the image. I can see the difference when I do that on just a DVD itself. You still didn't answer the question I had.

  • Its not 1080 since you have it connected to your tv with a RCA cable.

  • i use both

  • Does the external harddrive need to be fat32 file system to use on this media player? Or can a NTFS harddrive work?

  • 1:22 - Freak'n CLASSIC!! lmfao

  • Pretty cool video, on the WD TV HD Media Player for USB Storage Device.

I want on of those, I too have a 1TB External hard drive with many many videos only 500++ I don't have as many as you, but 500++ Avi video files is plenty for that device, I want one.

Cool video, you should have talked more about the device than showing people all your treasures on your External Hard drives. I know there's really nothing to talk about but... Nice video, Thanx.

  • they are cheap now you can buy them for $75 brand new thanks

  • can you copy dvd films with the option of changing the language feature? (like in the menu of a dvd film) ? this would be for my daughter who speaks english & spanish, and if we travel i would like her to reinforce her speech.

    Thank you

  • kk thz

  • can you use the my book essentials external hard drive with the wdtv media player? because on the website it said u can use it with a usb or my passport portable drive. but how about the big external hard drives do those work?

  • you can use any external drive i use 2 western digital 4tb drives one with 2000 movies the other with my 15,000 music videos and my mp3 collection

  • Tried to play movis from my Hitachi and its tells me no storage device! Any idea?

    Thanks

  • @ramixox try to unplug and then replug should show up takes a few

  • Thanks. You are correct, you have to wait little.

  • hitachi what hard drive or u mean you have a hitachi tv !

  • It needs to run in the FAT32 filing system - go to properties on your harddrive to check what it is. You can use a piece of software called 'partition magic' to change to the FAT32 filing system :)

  • what is this a reply to ? what are you talking about ?

  • good video can we play it in pc

  • @shademims yes

  • You obviously have a lot of shit. What files does it play, mkv, wmv, divx, etc... Is there anything it doesn't play?

  • it doesn't play flv files

  • nope but your pc does so i just plugged my pc on to my wide screen end of story best thing i ever did plus i have hdmi out on my video card

  • this is about western digital tv not a pc thanks

  • Can you turn off the TV if you want to play audio alone and just set it on continuous play?

Also is there and programs like this the work with album art dvd or CD?

  • it shows album art ect you could turn the tv of only if you have the audio of the western digital player going to some thing other than your tv like have the video to your tv and the audio to you stereo or something that wold use av cable and just use the audio you would not be able to do it with the hdmi

  • What about mpeg2 1280x720 videos? Has anybody tried them? I start with movies produced with my Sanjo X-acti CG10 camera (M4- HSR or something) and I can edit them to that Mpeg 2 format or HDV format

  • I picked mine up today. Really like it. My only complaint is that it doesn't forward through video fast enough if you wanted to jump ahead to get to a certain point in the file.

  • I take back my complaint. I Just found the trick that lets you jump forward and backward in 10 minute increments.

Pretty sweet device and reasonably priced.

  • You don't have all these things in 1080i, as a 1080i scene rip is rare. You either have SD res xvids and divx, or things like mkv in 720p and 1080p. If you ripped dvds they are sd resolution being scaled and interlaced by the tv or player to 1080p (if thats what your tv is). It doesn't mean the actual file itself is 1080i/p.

  • yes you are right and thats what i meant ! thanks

  • My old HDD media player can't even do squat especially with matroska files .mvk so i bought this unit and i must say, i was totally amazed, thanks alot to Western Digital for making this :D

  • Can you use subtiles ? If you download a subtitel from subscene and put in your maps with your movie on your external harddrive, does the wd tv player show it ?

  • yes ..you can use dvd shrink this plays most files so save them in vob or avi

  • no it dont

  • PS3 does all this as well. Plus bluray. Looks like a nice little device

  • The PS3 doesn't support many of the video formats that this WD TV does, including Matroska (.mkv), which is very important. Also I don't think the PS3 supports subtitles the way this device easily does, the subtitles have to be hardcoded to the film so the PS3 can show, unless it's an actual DVD, and not an AVI file for example.

  • Well it plays all the formats I've thrown at it. Most pirate movies are divx which run great on the ps3.

  • Yes, it plays DivX, like A LOT of other players, but not Matroska (mkv), which is why the WD TV is awesome, not very many players play mkv now, but it's spreading everywhere.

  • PS3 supports mkv and subtitles on mkv files if you run them through a free software from your computer connected to your ps3 device :)

  • What are your backup methods?

If one of these hard drives dies, Do you have a back up one, or you have to redo what was lost?

  • i have 1500+ dvd rips and 16k music videos i have backups of each at least 2 backups if i lost it i would die

  • Question, Has anyone connected this to a receiver ? I have an 7.1 Onkyo with the HDMI inputs, but it will not work with my HTPC because of some kind of copyright crap. So the only thing I get thru HDMI is video and no sound. It would be great if this would work

  • i never have

  • will this work with the Western Digital Elements 1TB Desktop External Hard Drive??

  • yes any usb hard drive or thumb drive any usb drive

  • i bought my WD TV player last night and i went home plugged it in with the hdmi cable to the tv then i plugged in my hard drive(not western digital hard drive) and my tv doesnt pick it up...the media played light flashes indicating the hard drive is connected i guess or i dont know y it flashes?can u guys help me out!!!! i also tried to connect it with the RCA's and that didnt work either do i have to run the cd it comes with?or how do i set it up?thanks

  • sounds like your is not working bring it back and get a new one also make sure your tv is on the hdmi source and install the updateds

  • Comment removed

  • none yet

  • Do you have some problems with any of the video files? I hope to get this next week. Looks sweet! A little dream theater..that you can bring anywhere!

  • Nice vid it does not play mkv files with dts u will need to rip the audio to ac3 best program I've found is popcorn audio converter.......

  • That is incorrect. It DOES support DTS, but only passthrough, so you need to decode via your soundsystem which most people will already have anyway. And if you don't have a soundsystem hooked up capable of 6/7 channel sound then what's the point of having DTS or AC3 for that matter?

  • Hi, can you play .x264 on this player?, I read in the homepage that doesnt support dts audio, if i have a mkv file with dts it goes mute or gives you stereo output?

    Thanks

  • can you change the aspect, or pan-scan or something like that??

  • yes

  • no you can just use hdmi for both

  • i have one question that bothered me. when i conect this device to the lcd tv with hdmi i have to connect it with the comoposite and stereo cables also to watch other files that are not hd? i'll be glad for a reply and sorry for this stupid questions i'm kinda new at this stuff

  • sorry dont know .. i dont have that problem

  • if then how have u connected your device to the lcd tv with the hdmi cable or the cables that came with it in the box ?

  • i use the hdmi ..but i also used the av cables

  • no u just need the hdmi cable for every video... hd or not ;)

  • "I have some porn on here, which i can't really show you" HAHAHHAAH GOLD!!!!

  • Lol. Why would you mention the porn if you can't show us?? :(

  • This is nice for the price. But I'll stick with my MacBook connected to my hdtv via mini dvi to hdmi and PLEX.

Plex offers a much better GUI and PLEX is a free download :p

  • Corection: That's a mini display to hdmi not mini dvi connecting my MacBook to my HDTV.

Plex handles any 1080p content you can throw at it.

    Anyone here use PLEX?

  • do use the HD avi or the video avi?

  • video avi

  • do you use xilisoft?

  • YES

  • hey whats up? what is the best quality to convert to?dvi?mpeg4?iso?divx?im looking for the best quality video possible. thanks

  • AVI 640 BY 480

  • Avi is good for Divx/XviD but if you want to BEST QUALITY then I would go with mp4 or mkv container as it can support x264, AVIs can support x264 to a certain extent in settings and profiles & it's not recommended for a AVI container.

  • "I have some porn on here... which I cannot show you."

    Your hilarious!

  • THANKS

  • thanks for the reply, but i found it that it does support MKV from another video, it actually supports alot of formats, sp i should be getting this today for daddies day :P

  • does it allow to watch MKV format? im thinking about getting this but i want to make sure that i can scroll through my movies if they are in MKV.

  • i dont know contact wd

  • Does Xilisoft rip normal DVD's and bypass any copyright protection when you use DVD Copy Express? Or does it require using a work around?

  • it burns everything i tried

  • One last question are you burning to regular AVI or DIVX AVI?

  • divx

  • I appreciate it. You have a huge collection. I thought my 1000+ DVDS and approximately 8000 CD's were a lot. I bow to the master.

  • when you are ripping to AVI what program are you using to do those DVD rips. And does that program rip the VIDEO_TS files if I have those kind of folders?

  • i use xilsoft dvd ripper

  • what kind of video files are you using with this? I currently burn DVDs as ISO files which I know I'll have to convert and was thinking possibly an MP4 conversion with CloneDVDmobile. Do you have any suggestions for converting my existing ISO library of video files?

  • i use avi

  • yep never forget the porn!! lol

  • Where do you get your music video mash up?

  • 8th wonder

  • i have like 10 terabytes in all i have lots of tv shows like all the star treks and just tons of stuff

  • thanks i love it all

  • Wow you have bare loads of stuff.

Ive only just got my first 1tb hard drive and this.

  • So it looks like you can only see about 10 to 15 movies on the menu list at a time. Is there any other way to browse your titles?

  • you can scroll down and see them all

  • I was just wondering with thousands of files if it 's a pain getting to what you want.

  • on one of the drives i have 800+ movies and on the other i have 10,000+ music videos and it take only seconds to get what a want ...it can be done in many ways ... the way you set up the folders also there is a search function so just type in the movie and its there ...but to be honest with all the files i have its better to use a computer hooked up to your tv this wd player works best and is made for the small drives but it does work with 2 2terabyte drives

  • whats that ???

  • can it support ogm files?

  • yes they will work

  • this may sound stupid, but my tv is not hd and the movies ive downloaded are not hd, will they still work through the machine, im pretty useless at technology and any answers would be gratefully aprreciated?

  • I have an NEC CRT and it works fine. Just make sure your TV has composite input e.g. the red white and yellow plugs.

  • does this device play vob files, iso's like of dvd's?

  • never tried those files

  • could u please check for me because i have many movies in this format and i'm thinking of buying this media player it seems pretty nice for me

  • The latest WD player does not support this types of dvd files (vob, ts), can only support files like mpeg 1/2/4, wmv9, avi (mpeg4, xvid, avc), H.264, MKV, Mov (H.264, mov). You can probably i think..? if you have the latest firmware update for this player.

  • ya i think so because i read somewhere that it does play those kind of files but never mind u all helped me with your quick reply thanks!!!!!!!! =]

  • um I an an anime fan(plz don't ridicule me xP) and u think it can play all avi, mkv, ogm files? and can it run HD AVI? or HD MKV? just asking here

  • does support HD avi and HD mkv. Sadly you wont be able to view OGM\OGG files. Converting them would fix the problem.

  • so what converter program you sugjest? to convert ogm to mkv

  • Theres plenty of file converters floating around. I suggest using OGM to AVI converter or AVS converter trouble you may have to buy them. Try googling for a freeware.

  • cant help i dont have those files

  • of course you have those files

  • why are you using the rca and composite cable? u need to use HDMI for HD quality!

  • ok thanks

  • Yeah, just bout to comment on that. Does really defeat the purpose when using rca cables.

  • I am just getting into the game, still learning my friend

  • my book .....i also trade if you have country music videos from promo only i need those !!!

  • thanks its allot of work covering them and tagging them all

  • would you recommend wd portable or my book?

  • portable is the portable version ;)

if you need just much space and accept an external power supply unit, get the cheaper my book

  • i don't understand what you are talking about ???

  • thanks for your quick response, your setup is awesome.

  • avi is not compressed like mp4 ect so you can get a better picture so yes its the best for movies ...for music videos its better to use mp4 because most of the dj software only play mp4s

  • is avi the best recommend format?

  • what format are your movies in?

  • movies avi in hd, music videos mp4 i use a high video bit rate

  • plus i have karaoke

  • porno lol, top man :D

  • Does WD HDD overheat?

  • never happened to me

  • i have another question do u have ur harddrives as NTFS and if u do does the wd tv read it or does it mess up and doesent read the hardrive?

by the way 24 is my favorit show too

  • i use western digital 2tb drives and i think they are formatted to ntfs because some of my movies are big files

  • i thought u wer using 2 of 1 tyrabyte drives only so i thought u have 2 terabyts only in this vid

  • i use many drives i have 4tb of just music videos alone then i have 2tb of movies and 2tb tv shows and 1tb mp3s plus all the other things i have so i use like 11tb of drives

  • never happened to me

  • What kind of HDD u use? its WD My Book 2 Essential? And did u have any problems with these HDD's?

  • Comment removed

  • i use wd 2 terabyte drives and no problems

  • What an incredible library of music! Where have you managed to get all that content from? And how did you re-master the music vids?

    Cheers!

  • i have been collecting music videos for 10+ years .the videos are remaster by the video company i buy them from

  • hey man can i use my wd 500 gigs hard drive or will the wd tv wont read it? because i heard that some people have some problems with the 500 gig version of wd to be able to be read on the wd tv, is this true?

  • i never had any problems with the 500gig drive i have two 2tb drives hooked up to it at once and it works fine

  • porn?

  • Yes that also

  • What software do you use to copy your DVD's ? , What format do you use for Movies AVI ? , and what is the average file size for your movies ? . Just bought one of these and wondering what is the best way to copy all my DVD's. Many thanks.

  • i use avi and the size is 700mb to 1.5 gb i use xilisort dvd ripper

  • how many TV shows do you have?

  • i have more than 1 terabyte of shows like 24,sapranos,famguy,startrek ,so many

  • how does WD Media Player organize your folders that contain theseasons & episodes of your tv shows? example: I have a folder containing the tv show forever knight and inside that folder are 3 other folders containing seasons and in season 1 folder have the episodes...how well does WD TV handle such as i described?

  • it does it the same way you have it.. so you can set the folders up the way you want the wd tv to display them ...

  • How well does WD Media Player handle subtitle? I heard that both can be out of sync with each other.

  • i never saw any problem ...for the price of the unit it is out of this world .... but a computer hooked up to your tv will always be better ...

  • hey man does this suport avi or will it just sau unsuported.

  • it plays them

  • awsome my dad has one

  • i dont have one of those to try but i dont think it will work and why would you want that you can use usb thumb drives and things like that
