@Stophunting Why do you people always anthropomorphise animals ?. I use terriers simply because IMO it's THE only human method of control. I let the terrier into the earth, i dig down to the barking and decide whether it lives or dies (my mistake..pre ban) lol. The fact you cover it up with all sorts of bull about population control, disease control, pest control etc. shows you know it to be bull and that the majority of society just doesn't go in for these kinds of past times anymore. If you're "up close and personal" then you've done something to either trap it or maim it before hand, because you can't get that close to a wild fox. Sad.

The timescale alone suggests that you cannot have held any of these positions for long enough to gain any in depth experience. I find this very difficult to beleive as most packs stopped hunting before cubs were born, with only a few, mainly upland hunts

I would say, who the survey is bankrolled by can seriously cloud the outcome, as you would no doubt claim if results went against you're beleifs. Beleive it or not I did lecture for 5 years.You dont beleive me because my opinions are different from yours. Actually it can be both and considering I've been involved in wildlife/conservation/animal related disciplines in some form or other since I was 14, I'd say yes, I have got a considerable amount of practical experience. I've worked in stables, animal homes, wildlife rescue, conservation and even a small zoo. I've dealt with the aftermath of the hunt on the foxes that get away, cared for cubs orphaned by the hunt & seen the injuries often suffered by the hounds used in the hunt.

@LeanneKing87 What bit about digging out don't you understand, i dig to my dog and the fox is right there in front of her "up close and personal", i don't need to cover anything up, twenty eight years ago i got my first terrier and i could dig 70 + foxes a year, now with the arrival of the rifle i'm lucky to dig twenty in a year, do the maths, i'm one man, times that by many thousands and you've got the difference between killing the right fox on the farm or estate that it doing the damage on.

You are 17 and studied animal care so I take it you did a NVQ or BTEC 1st diploma, this does not make you David attenborough.

I'm a coppice worker so i work in small well managed woodland. In this county most land is owned by estates, the dutchy or the church, which i object too. As for hunting, without the toffs, you fellas would be arrested for tresspass unless you own the land, the dogs and the horses.

@tcp1228 Derik, it's not that simple mate, there's so many things that decide whether a fox gets dug in the first place. Contrary to popular belief we aren't a bunch of hooligans running around trying to murder everything we come across. I also stalk deer and lamp for fox and again IMO terriers are by far the best option when copared to rifles. I've dug foxes with there legs shot through, jaws blown off and with massive wounds on them.

There are so many variables, terrain, wind and other weather conditions, wether the animal has been lamped before etc. Plus the fact that a lot of people that control foxes by shooting do not observe a closed season so they will shoot foxes in the summer when vixens are nursing cubs and the cubs will starve to death with hounds they have a a chance and theres no risk of wounding

The reason hunt sabs now cover their faces is because in the past they have faced repercussions and retributions from hunt members, including physical attacks.
