@newFranzFerencLiszt He was for a brief period in his old age one of the World's best conductors. His Beethoven's 7th and the late Mozart Symphonies are gems. All were brilliantly recorded from the Marlboro Festival in USA

His real name was Pau... Franco imposed the Spanish names to all Catalan names. It's a shame that no one has ever fixed this travesty. He called himself "a Catalan". See his speech at the United Nations in 1971.
Yes, it's certainly a sedate tempo! Have you heard Toscanini's 'tempestuous' broadcast from the mid 1940s? I think Casals played a few cello concerti with Toscanini in the 1920s and 30s.
Many details are revealed in this loving historic recording. It should be complete in the Pablo Casals Museum in San Juan. The "wave" and "wind" action are awesome.
I sneaked silently behind wooden wall in the violin section. A grand standing "seat" or view for a well groomed and properly attired (suit and tie!) kid!
I didn't know he conducted too...

Happy to hear this!
Historic videos like this should be preserved. Did he played under Victor Tevah?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
His name was PAU Casals in Catalan, not Pablo in Spanish. Please correct it, since Pablo is disrespectul because it was imposed in the Franco regime.

He is known throughout the world as "Pablo" .............. for decades!!

Sure I do! Toscanini's genial interpretation was done in 1946. !Wonderful!
My favorite interpretations are:
1. Toscanini in 1946
2. Casals in this video
Both are awesome. I will hear again the Toscanini to decide which is "better".
Both are supremely magnificent!

Unhurried and with weight and respect.
Delicate violin pizzicato around 7:00
