This way if the Lamu community KEEP their land and property and DO NOT sell to foreigners, you will be able to steer your own destiny better and the income will be coming to you and your families annually, and you'll have money to be able to give back into your own community and educate your children, so they can achieve their goals.
Suz you are correct its a shame what these people are going through. A tragedy so tourists can come in and buy all the land and destroy a culture and keep these wonderful people in poverty. Why are some people here saying they will invade Lamu is it contested by two countries? Peace phenna
Keep your land people of Lamu! Don't sell out to the visitors who build ugly houses and don't live in them! Build your own beautiful houses, then rent them to the visitors! There should be a law to preserve the heritage and beauty of Lamu and to keep all land within the local community.
Lamu does not need all these enormous houses owned by Europeans. The local people should keep their land and build their own sustainable houses within the local Swahili tradition and rent out their own houses to the tourists and have these tourists as paying guests and visitors only.
The most stupid thing is to sell your home and move to mombasa. They will regret in the future.Kenya second port will be built in Lamu there will be empolyment for them and they will be foreigner in their own town. Shame !
Ok, there are several bad things happening everywhere in the world. I do not think that your comment was necessary, i mean it dillutes the message in the video, .. i.e: the positive side of islam, the beauty of humanity, and warmth of the Kenyan people.
as kenyans we have to decide...our culture or becoming part of a global community for prosperity! the problem is choice...

Lamu is a great place. I suppose a lot has change since I lived there from'83 to '85.
I noticed the Boy Secondary School near the end of the segment.
I would love to go back.
