my second lesson is august 7th and i need advice because im gonna do my first canter... because i was soo good at the postig trot... any advice anyone?
just remember to keep your heels down and sit deep in the saddle. pretend there is glue stuck between your butt and the saddle. an di have to continue to make clicking noises to keep Dixie going so that may be something you want to do if you feel your horse is about to go back down to a trot wich can be really rough coming from a canter xCaroline
you look like a natural, and you can only get better with practice. I'm just starting lessons myself, so no critique from me. Cute pony in that one shot!
You look very xomfortable on the horse thats good. Try not to have your hands in your lap and just keep your horse going! You look good & I hope you add more. Please check out some of my videos. I have been like since I was about 5 or so so thats about 13 years
well here is one difference>Western has a horn which was originally put there for roping cattle. And western is more bulky and heavy...but comfortable.
there is a lot of difference between english and western. some being a different style saddle, different style of riding (western you have a jog and english you post at a trot), different way to hold the reins, different type of bridle, usually western you use a breast plate end english you do not ususally enless you jump, and the list goes on. you should definately look up the differences, it's fascinating to see all the different styles of rididng.
ummm this will prob sound reli stupid. ive onli really ridden english before, n i thort the only differnece between eng n western was longer stirrups and reins, can sum1 pleese educate me????
no prob! i ride both english and western. and that is so funny b/c i also just switched stables! lol.the place i go to now is sooo much better. u learn more and u get to treat the horse u r riding like it is your own! u get to tack and untack and wash and groom the horse all by yourself as if the horse is yours! by the way i live in new jersey.
yah. u r a good rider. is this your 2nd time riding english or your 2nd time riding? its probably your first time riding english! lol did u used to ride western before this video? (i also ride)
Yeah, i rode wester for about 5 years before this...i just started riding english in october...and i only switched because where i used to ride made me pay $25 for my lessons 2 days a week, and all I was doing was training her horses....I'm so glad I've switched because i have learned quite a bit more :) thanks for the comment
wow! this is only yr second time iding english!!! your amazing!! i used to ride only western and then i started taking english lessons. at my second lesson i was just finished learning how to trot let alone canter!! your great keep up the good work!

I think its easy to ride english style, for your 2nd lesson your doing pretty good, keep up the good work and make sure you keep in mind the little things like "are my reins short enough?" "and my heels down?" and stuff like that coz if you notice the little things just as much as the big you'll be a great rider keep up the awesome work =D
You ride well, one thing though, and it was SO hard for me, you have to point your toes in, and point straight ahead. It hurts very bad because naturally on a horse our toes point out, but you will find its so much easier jumping.

I agree, it also looks much better with your toes straight ahead. You actually have to bend them in on a horse.

Thanks...Yah I've been working on keeping my toes straight and this vid is a few months old....thanks again for the comment!
