For me it's like: "Do you think aliens exist? Yes or No, because if you say you don't know well you somehow not believing in it or believing in it, so make up your mind. Very irritating.
@woovy@woovy That’s exactly the point. You cannot grasp the concept. While I and many atheists can. WE can be hooked up to an EEG and fMRI machine and demonstrate what you are actually convinced is true since a different part lights up when you’re telling the truth or lying. A belief is to think something is true. Regardless of whether or not you know if you hold that something is true, you either believe it or you don’t. There’s a difference between just not believing it and believing
and believing it’s false. If you don’t believe something it means you haven’t yet been convinced it’s true. It doesn’t matter whether you don’t believe something but still think it’s likely/unlikely, plausible, implausible, possible impossible. You still either have been convinced its true or you haven’t (i.e. lack the belief ‘aliens exist’). You need to learn to separate the plausibility of something and your psychological state regarding its existence. Regardless of if you know, other
people can hook you up and know if you actually think this proposition is true ‘aliens exist’. You can’t have the belief and not have it (law of noncontradiction and excluded middle) at the same time; it's impossible.
Yes you're completely right. Some people can't handle that we're not seeing our opinion as atheist or theist because we think it's meaningless to see the issue this way.
Atheist means "without the belief of a god", so technically you're supposed to be atheist, they would say, seeing the "a" which means without, but ignoring the broader definition and complete one, " the rejection of belief in the existence of deities". I don't reject it, i consider it as a possibility. That's it.
@owheydusoapsk ha ha, yes. The critique can be a bit obnoxious sometimes, but I'm very big on self improvement. I am a bit shameless when it comes to my own earnestness, but I do have a huge interest and my own perspective on a lot of things like this. It's taken a long time and thought to get to where I am in my views. But I guess I like to do these videos to work on articulating my thoughts better. I've got the thoughts, getting them across... completely different story, lol.
@gypsyrose713 There have been lots of times when I sort of have a concept in my head: but it's not until I can actually articulate it that I really have it. And I don't know whether it's that I can't articulate it until I completely grasp it in my head or that the process of trying to articulate it helped solidify it for me. I've also had the experience many times on You-Tube where someone has "articulated" something I've been thinking about but hadn't been able to say yet. CONT>>>
@owheydusoapsk Getting into these You-Tube skirmishes really forces you to think deeper out of self-defense! You Tube can be an intimidating place that's why most people don't do videos. Have fun!
