It is true, the "Heavy D Effect" altered the music that we know. When he signed with Uptown in 1986, they had nobody. Heavy D and Al.B. Sure! dropped those two beasts in 1987, Uptown went from unknown, to well known, and Heavy got a job for a friend as an intern, that was Diddy. Because Heavy was dropping beast after beast for Uptown, they were able to grab Guy, Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Biggie among others. After signing BIG, diddy left and took BIG, so no Heavy, a whole different world.

I loved Heavy from the first time I saw this video and when I found out he was Jamaican I loved him even more. Whether they are Jamaican or Jamerican like me, people like Busta, Peppa, Canibus, Special Ed, Slick Rick, Kid from Kid 'n' Play, Biggie, DJ Kool Herc C, Kurtis Mantronik and Heavy's cousin Pete Rock all did well in hip hop.
