This trailer is an example of SEGA's greatest weakness. Why? Because SEGA and Sonic Team knew the whole time as to which Sonic would be appearing in this game. SEGA and Sonic Team also could've, at any time, informed the company making the commercial as to the truth. They didn't. Instead, they chose to lie.

Lie like they did about "Sonic-only" in Sonic Unleashed. Lie like they did about "Sonic only" in Sonic 2006, even. It is lying that doomed SEGA in the past, and bore distrusting costumers.

Well, that would be awesome if it was sonic 4. however, i also think that it would be great if it was just a huge new sonic game that is actually a really good game. that way, the critics cant say that "its just a remake of an old sonic series and is literally a huge step backwards" (not my words). so i would really be fine with both. as long as its good.

Tbh Sega made pretty good use of the dreamcast hardware, and Sonic Adventure one and two were some of the best looking titles of at that time :) So sonic in 3d doesn't look bad at all, sonic unleashed is a beautiful looking game, the frame rate never drops in the daytime stages. Anyway, this game sounds epic as fuck! :D can't wait!

its an adventure game with same remaining characters (cast of next gen)

and its in 2D but with HD graphics

andits built from the ground up so new storyline and yes they are going to originate so (keeping the old sounds) it will be AWSOME

Pretty harsh, don't you think? I've been a Sonic fan since day one, I remember being in line June 23, 1991 to pick up the first Sonic game on the Genesis. Loved him since. I bet your one of those kids who came around Sonic Adventure time and defending all the shitty 3d titles. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a Sonic fan, I'm just not a fan of recent titles. Last one I played was Sonic (2006). I don't know if I agree with Hedgehog/Human love. I can imagine what their kids will look like.

I never had a DC I had a Mega drive, mega cd and Game gear and I liked them a lot... but times moved on we don't live in a 16bit world any more. Yes I to don't like 06 or shadow the hedgehog but my favourite games are SA1 and 2 not everyone's favourites and I am looking forward to needlemouse

Well, I never said anything bad about 3d or characters or voice actors. And I got no problems with spin off games. Every Sonic game I've played since SA2 (minus GBA titles) have been full of annoying glitches. Like the developers half assed the titles. Some parts of the game were good, but when they're to the point of being unplayable (Sonic 2006) or just not fun (Unleashed), I have every right to voice my opinion and say they aren't good and could have been a lot better.

You got the "SEEGAAA" intro, the spin dash sound, the rigns, Sonic's classic jumping sound, the same emblen that appeared in the title screens of the old games, it talks abouts Speed, about a 2D adventure (Wich is something that many Sonic fans have been asking for), that blue thing moving around, and the classic sound of falling rings at the end... and some of you really think that it's not Sonic?! Come on...

I really couldn't care less what the newbie fans think, Sonic was created in 2D, therefore he should stay as he was. Sonic is a platform game, there's no point trying to change it, otherwise it would be a bit pointless calling it a Sonic game. It's like opening a game of Monopoly only to find Snakes And Ladders inside... If Sega pull this off, it will be one of my favourite games of all time, as it will be for everyone to play, once again!

Not entirely.

The underlying code behind a lot of games tend to be customised games engines, like the Unreal 3 Engine, or Renderware (which, interestingly enough, was the engine used for Sonic Adventure)

This is done to cut costs. I doubt there are THAT many games that use bespoke engines.

Built from the ground up likely (hopefully) means a brand new, bespoke 2D platforming game engine designed specifically for Sonic, and not simply a customised commercial one.

I can't comment about Sonic Heroes, but I'm pretty sure SA1 used Renderware, because it got mentioned in the pre-title advertising.

I would imagine they are going on about it being built from the ground up to... try and distance themselves somewhat from their recent 3D output.

And whilst Sonic Unleashed did have 2D-ish elements, it was still a 3D engine, with everything that entails.

Not that I can comment on HOW Sega have gone about developing this game. But this is what I hope they mean.

Well, the silhouette of the logo is 100% same as in the old Genesis -versions.. just start up Sonic 1. And also, the "Needlemouse" -thing is a throwback to when they originally planned to call him Needlemouse instead of Sonic The Hedgehog.
