Hm... Are you sure YOU shouldn't be looking at a dictionary? You misspelled dictionary by the way... that's just about the most amount of fail you can squeeze into the English language...
I wouldn't want to be in that plane, generally plane captains try to avoid going into thunder clouds if they can as it can short out the instruments-the clouds come up on their radar -we once had to avoid a thundercloud belt over Prague coming back from Istanbul in 1999 -hope that plane was okay after than bolt.
@lifes7holy7skateprk7 you clearly don't understand the concept of a Faraday cage. You could load a plane full of explosives and as long as the plane is metallic they won't experience a voltage across them.
@CovenantGladiator so what? yeah i get your super smart but noone cares, it was just a statement and it is a possibility :) maybe not for that plane specificly
Then don't fly during storms and or when storms are predicted in the weather forcast! All is solved to avoid flying in a plane as it may get struck by lightning.
@MrMasterUploader Funny you mention it. You have 4 spelling mistakes right there. (annoys, when, thumbs, spelling) It’s a good thing we’re on YouTube and not in English class otherwise we would be busted!
@goomee3d There... Satisfied?? Believe me, you're not the first to notice. Thumbs up my last comment to stop the evil wrath of YouTube spelling finatics. :P
Planes are Designed to withstand this, Lightning wants to reach the ground, So when it hits a plane it basically goes "LOLNOFUCKYOU" and goes to the back of the plane and discharges to the ground, Everyone on board is horribly electrocuted, For just over one billionth of a second, not long enough to cause anything bad.
@Shuttheheckup735 You're right about the first part: lightning wants to reach the ground ASAP. However, the airplane's fuselage acts like a Faraday cage. It conducts the electricity only on it's exterior and avoids any areas with higher resistances (windows, in-take fans, pretty much any orifice). The people inside probably just went "Holy f*ck that was loud!" and got a good scare out of it.
@Shuttheheckup735 No. The plane's hull acts like a faraday cage. The electricity never passes through the contents of the plane. If that much electricity flew through you, it does not matter how long the exposure is, you will have suffered some sort of damage if not it being fatal.
The lightning that hit this plane, is moving at the speed of light (300,000 KM per SECOND), so the lighting would travel through each person in about 1/1,000,000th the amount of time it takes to blink your eye, since it's in contact with any one person for that tiny amount of time, even though the lighting is at a few million volts and a few hundred thousand amps, each person would feel the effect of only a couple milliamps. (not enough to move the hair on the back of your neck)
@Forthenetherlands if u actually been in a plane you would know that it has plastic like windows and on the inside were the people sit there isnt metal from outside. please learn basic physics before commenting on a vid like this plz
If any of the commenters here knew anything about airplane design... It would be quite obvious that the lightning hit the surface of the plane, then travelled to the static wicks on the right wing trailing edge, as it would appear in this video, then continued to the ground. It didn't DBZ it's way through the metal, just used it as a conductor (as it was designed), which kept it away from the electronics and pilots/passengers, providing it a clear ground path to take.
@Forthenetherlands no, every plane is manufactured in a way to prevent a bolt from damaging the systems and hurting the passengers... when a plane is hit by a lightning it can send it straight to the ground, kind like the lightning rod in tall buildings.
Yes you are correct but there is one misunderstanding, according to the flight records that keep all the flights status monitors planes and knows where they are at almost all times, there are les than 2 crashes a year average! The chances of you being on one of those two are 1 in 6,000,000! Six million being the average number of flights in one day.
yea, as you see it got struck around the nose, straight out the tail. Its just basic physics really.... no energy was actually released inside the plane except maybe a little heat.
Usually you would put it into the log book, so the ground crew can make an inspection to see if something was damaged, but in either case it will not interfere with the flight, it's just a safety precaution in case it burned a small hole somewhere that might need fixing.
@pcdocter123 nope, my uncle flys a plane and i got a tour of one and how it works in my BSA troop, they are "sort of" designed to get hit by lightning. they can withstand the hit, and no one in the plane will notice a thing. It doesn't even make a sound aside from thunder as the lightning just passes through like in the video. And whats with u being a grammar nazi no one likes those
@upsidedowntown 87% of all airplane crashes the passengers survive. meaning you are more likely to die in a car accident where only 73% of people and passengers survive.
Taken from the stats USA and stats Canada websites.

@josh26wv yeah its MORE safer than cars dude. think about the ratio 1000 flights i should guess 1 to 2 crashes. but for cars 1000 travels, 100-500 crashes..
@josh26wv planes have landed safely with hydraulic failures, engine failures, damage to very important flight controls such as elevators, etc. Also, look up Aloha airlines flight 243, that plane landed safely with only 1 cassualty after an entire section of the plane blew off. Faraday's cage principle is followed while designing planes.
the law says that in a hollow solid the charge on the outside surface is rearranged(by an external electric field) in a such a way
that the electric field inside it is zero, thus all the passengers and equipments are safe.
