In the states it seems like not a lot of men play it, it is a shame really as it is a lot of fun, it is always growing in uk, i know there is a bit on the western seaboard toward LA etc, i have a mate who plays quite high level there. there are so many competitive sports out in the US that you can earn money playing it is difficult to play something that is an amatuer sport like hockey out there to a high level i guess.

Which if u watch this video again u will see all the goals came from shots along the ground.. but u are right about a good game..
I think Vogels went down because when the ball was passed to Dywer, the ball was most likely going to be hit (rather than drag-flicked). Since it was the first strike at the goal, the hit had to cross the goal line at 460mm, and the best way to defend them is to 'log' - lie down infront of the goal covering as much of the backboard as possible. He just didn't do it quick enough.
I have watched this many times now and it still grows on me evry time i wacth it.. good pump up vid before a game. still remember waking in the early morning to watch this final.

I am a huge fan of both sports but play Hockey because of the lack of facilities. This is also why at tournaments there is an opportunity of an upset in Hockey because the smaller nations just have to find a patch of grass. In Ice Hockey the competition for the North American sides is Scandinavia and Russia. Shame that Ice Hockey has more coverage than Hockey and this won't change for a long time yet. But going back to the argument; calling a sport 'gay' is homophobic and plain ignorant.

This is pretty much the gayest thing I have ever seen, a bunch of homos playing hockey with undersized sticks (just like thier penises) on grass. Ice hockey players use big sticks because they they are compensating for having small ones. Skating does involve skill but more people around the world play field hockey. It involves way more skill turning ur stick instead of using both sides.
Ok first off, modern field hockey is played on ultra modern water base pitches. They are very fast and at that very dangerous. I think we can argue all day about what is better ect, this vid is not particularly that good hence I'd say it's very harsh trying to judge a whole sport on this. Anyone who thinks this is a pussy sport I advice you try it at a high level for yourself, if you lose all your teeth due to some 90mph hockey ball then don't say I didn't warn you.

Just because your country isn't skilled enough to master the concept of only using one side of a hockey stick doesn't mean field hockey is gay. And also, real hockey IS field hockey - its more popular internationally and its history dates back further than ice hockey.
I'm not Australian, I'm from New Zealand. And its not the only sport we play. I mean theres rugby - the sport your country doesn't play because its a physical sport and there is no padding.
Being left handed does not effect you in hockey. I am usually left handed but I still have better hitting accuracy than anyone I know.
Though I do have to admit my comment about ice hockey was unfair. Though I still do believe the type of violence in that sport in uncalled for and not necessary and players should receive more than just a 5 minute penalty for fighting.
How does that make field hockey stupid? It makes it a more skilled and challenging sport. Its a lot harder to receive that ball bouncing along the turf on a small head of a stick than receiving a pass in most sports.

I am a huge fan of both sports but play Hockey because of the lack of facilities. This is also why at tournaments there is an opportunity of an upset in Hockey because the smaller nations just have to find a patch of grass. In Ice Hockey the competition for the North American sides is Scandinavia and Russia. Shame that Ice Hockey has more coverage than Hockey and this won't change for a long time yet. But going back to the argument; calling a sport 'gay' is homophobic and plain ignorant.

This is pretty much the gayest thing I have ever seen, a bunch of homos playing hockey with undersized sticks (just like thier penises) on grass. These guys are pussies and ice hockey is so much better, intense, manly, and physical. And it takes more skill, anyone can run, but not everyone can skate. I think that anyone that plays this disgrace to hockey should get a life and a new sport, if this can be considered a sport.

Ice hockey players use big sticks because they they are compensating for having small ones. Skating does involve skill but more people around the world play field hockey. It involves way more skill turning ur stick instead of using both sides.

Ok first off, modern field hockey is played on ultra modern water base pitches. They are very fast and at that very dangerous. I think we can argue all day about what is better ect, this vid is not particularly that good hence I'd say it's very harsh trying to judge a whole sport on this. Anyone who thinks this is a pussy sport I advice you try it at a high level for yourself, if you lose all your teeth due to some 90mph hockey ball then don't say I didn't warn you.

Just because your country isn't skilled enough to master the concept of only using one side of a hockey stick doesn't mean field hockey is gay. And also, real hockey IS field hockey - its more popular internationally and its history dates back further than ice hockey.

Being left handed does not effect you in hockey. I am usually left handed but I still have better hitting accuracy than anyone I know.
Though I do have to admit my comment about ice hockey was unfair. Though I still do believe the type of violence in that sport in uncalled for and not necessary and players should receive more than just a 5 minute penalty for fighting.

How does that make field hockey stupid? It makes it a more skilled and challenging sport. Its a lot harder to receive that ball bouncing along the turf on a small head of a stick than receiving a pass in most sports.
I can't actually believe people think ice hockey is a better sport? If a opponent is better than you, it doesn't matter because you can just get in a fight with them? Yeah, because sportsmanship isn't a important aspect of the game.

It's stupid because those who are naturally left handed are forced to switch to adapt to a style that doesn't suit them. I believe strongly that this is one of the major reasons that field hockey isn't more popular. Also, that is a very ignorant comment regarding ice hockey. It's a phyiscal sport, yes, but currently on average (within the NHL) there is only about a 40% fight rate per game (The chance of there being a single fight, that is.
