  • ''It was his drummer!!''

  • Please welcome - the incredible... David Bowie!

  • i cnat stop watching this performance i love "stay" anyway but he is so amazingly cool that even the middle age old biddies in the audience are entranced! even if you don't like him you cannot deny his unbelivable talent in this clip.

  • oh my... his music is so powerful, makes me feel so happy inside. just awesome.

  • Oh, my god! It's so true: if you see this pictures and see this man and even think of the title of that album "David Live" it really had to be entitled: "David is still alive and looks as he has just stepped out of the grave!" I'm sooo thankful and still happy, that he didn't made it into that club of the 27-year-olds!

  • Can anyone tell who' playing lead guitar!

  • I wish I was confident enough to dance like that!! what a cutie pie!

  • Comment removed

  • Obviously he is starstruck but Henry Winkler is so embarrassing in this segment, lol. However, this is one of my favorite Bowie performances. Love him.

  • I was mistaken..that wasn't Carlos Alomar on lead guitar, it was Canadian guitar star, Stacey Hayden! Carlos and Earl Slick played on the album, but didn't tour with Bowie. But, no matter! DB always had the best sidemen, and this band was no exception!

  • talk about "dance like no-one's watching" XD

    excellentnesss

  • Bowie's the Quicker Picker Upper!

  • @Sincopare hehe. I remember those commercials.

  • Best barnet in rock history that orange do he has there, cooler than the Fonze and no mistake!!

  • From the waist up he dances like your dad, but from the hips down he's James Brown! Love it :)

  • Wow. Never thought I would see a performance by Bowie that turned me off. His voice is the same but the rest of it is shit. And I love and respect Bowie like mad!

  • Great Bowie era. Very funked-out. Nice mover huh?

  • HE IS WONDERFUL!!!! I adore him and I love his orange hair!!♥♥♥

  • I love the fake, blinking little Mime on the left as she announces 'the real man'.

  • Dennis, George, Carlos

    what a trio

  • who is the woman with the fonz and dinah? i can't think of her name but i want to say she was in those paper towel commercials in the 70's.

  • @charlesncharge Think it's actress Gilda Radner,of T.V's "Rhoda" and various movies in the '70's

  • @MrCJSuperbad No, it's not Gilda, but I cannot think of her name! I think she was a regular on one of the Lucy series (not I Love Lucy). Oh this will drive me crazy tonight :)

Btw, what a powerful word in this song.. imagine someone saying "STAY" like he does here.. *falls to floor*.

  • @julieswahn It definitely is Nancy Walker,co star of Rhoda, alongside Julie Kavner et al........! I'm old enough to remember this shit the 1st time around!

  • @MrCJSuperbad Her name was Nancy Walker.

  • I'd love to have all these in HD...

  • i stay

  • cool when i was wearing polyesther. bad mofo.

  • This is an incredable song from Bowie from a fantastic album. What a master Bowie is. Glad to have existed to have heard his music. Love it!

  • This was after he cleaned up right? If hes messed up he looks pretty good for being high

  • Bowie is THE man. Coolest of the cool. And he makes music that's important.

  • from all the Stay live versions i've heard til now this is the best one by far. it's the only one that truly captures that funky groove of the original track.

  • David said he "rocked his roll." Damn straight. What a track record.

  • This is one brilliant fucking song and album! Get out of David's way no one will touch him!

  • damn his pants are very wide

why didnt he wear regular or slim pants?

  • haha.what an absolutely brilliant performance from the main man david bowie

  • I love the Tony Manero dance moves.

  • is robert davi the guy at the left of dinah?

  • @kjsh987 Uh that Henry Winkler from happy days

  • @kjsh987 no shit

  • wow- haven't seen this since 76'

thx for the kind words-we had a blast

  • @surfer714

you had a blast? So who are you I wonder?

  • @outsidethepyamid HOW COME YOUR SUCH A DUMB ASS ??

  • one of the best versions of this song- no question.

  • Brilliant, brilliant, great song, great musicians, especially love the keyboards and Stacy on guitar, et al.

David in his prime! They make it look so easy...oh to be young again.

  • Such a good song

  • Incedibel - a very rare dance performance to a funky background

  • Ahhh, absolutely beautiful! He really is one of a kind.

  • This has become one of my favorite video. I see it practically every day, and I always wind up with a huge smile on my face. I always notice new things too. Did you see what a great time DB was having? Towards the end, the band is really cooking, and David is practically yelping ("yeow"). He's loving it..and so do I!!

  • @Tedisntakidanymore "Did you see what a great time DB was having?"

so it's not the side effects of the cocaine?

  • He is the worst dancer but man.... I would dance him to the end of love!

  • That band is way too cool, and Bowie is a BAMF'er! Timeless stuff, right there!

  • David Bowie rocking an afternoon talk show -- Dinah Shore was the Oprah of the '70s -- with style and grace. Can you imagine any star of Bowie's magnitude appearing on daytime TV today? Check out Carlos' fro, and DB's foxy shuffle! A musical giant, but always humble, affable and very approachable. Did you notice David helped Dinah into her seat before he sat down? A real gent! A time capsule from the '70s and a great clip! Loved it!

  • Just wanna run my fingers through that hair...mmmmmmmmm..while we're dancing...oh, sigh...fantasy!!! ha ha...

  • Man Bowie looks awsome. Sexy and sensous without any effort. He is really one of the last true stars in the sense of Elvis. A total genious.

  • ah Bowie la classitude, quelle vox sacrée, quel monstre de suavitude et ce groove sans artifices que du vrai du pur, merde, c'est pas une putain de légende pour rien

  • Now I know from whom David Byrne learned to dance.

  • wow. is this what cocaine does to you? makes you do the funky chicken?

    lol

    possibly my fave bowie track.

  • @brianwilson49

    This and Blackout!

  • 演奏後、番組のホステスをさり気なくエスコートするあたりはさすが英国紳士。

  • The truly great artists are seamless in their craft through the years - styles, generations, fashion. Never pigeonholed in time. eternal. That is Bowie!

  • Great version of Stay Bowie fabulous as always However i prefer the Beeb 2000

  • @KookieKatie47 What? You prefer Justin Beiber over Bowie? Get your ears checked.

  • I think I remember watching this at home.

  • and so elegant besides this artistic dance style....david forever!!!

  • Boy i wish i were there that day...

  • Such an underated song from the true master of reality....

  • when will this amongst other stuff be released commercially?GREAT

  • Bowie great as usual but the electric piano was boring and an obnoxious whine, the backup vocal was terrible and distracting and Earl Slick can play circles around the lead in this vid. I like the version on BOWIE AT THE BEEB much better.

  • @19elgato46 The BEEB is a great vid, but the bass and drums are lacking the funk. Carlos Alomar came from the Main Ingredient and brought with him some great players. I think Carlos wrote the guitar riffs, Slick was brought in to play lead on the album but did not tour. I saw Bowie in New Haven Ct that year.

This version has that funky break and the Barry White style 4/4 drums,

  • @19elgato46 in fact I think both this drummer and bass player are way better than the one in the BEEBs vid. The pocket is more pronounced. Yeah that keyboard is nasty at the start. But its over shadowed by the great scratching guitar and rhythm section.

  • What a freaking genius, with genius talent too, and picks pretty great musicians to support him too!!! Unbelievable!!

  • Cool white soul singer!

  • @soulchosen Disco drums, funky bass, scratchy guitar, hard rock lead guitar. DAts the shiznit.

  • You got my vote!

  • Just... SMOOTH! :-)

  • Of all the videos this is one of my favorites! He's such a gentleman, helps Dinah into her chair, swoon!

  • I love his voice, he is a gentleman..

    He looks so adorable there.

    lol- Stay.. nice song.

  • how does david bowie end up on a feed that shares space with barbara stiesand and frank sinatra? well, i think it is fucking fantistic.

  • I´ve been drooling... I peed a little... I love this guy every day more and more, he is incredible, his way of singing, his dance, his charm...♥ ♥ ♥

  • That face, voice, and dancing...I think I'm going to melt. 4:43 onward is beyond astounding. This is one of my favorite live performances from Bowie. I could watch this video all day.

  • Awesome appearance!

  • Who's in the band? Great performance.

  • @MoGreensEye dennis davis on drums, george murray on bass, black guitarist is carlos alomar, white guitarist is stacey headon, on keyboards....maybe roy young!

  • The difference is that John I'm Only Dancing is shite and this is inspired, he's got all the elements happening here.

  • And the Fonze gave him a thumb's up too!

  • dont forget a freaking amazing stage presence and god-like charisma

i watch this and i want to scream like a groupie........he was so hottttt

  • I bet he cringes now to see himself dance like that. lol.... what a dweeb.

  • Dinah Shore was so sweet!

  • Can you imagine that "Stay" is "John i'm only dancing again" chords in a more funky hard diso version. The complete recycler.Excellent live though fully stoned..

  • This is terrific! Thanks for posting. :)

  • AWESOME clip, but I would have preferred the intro to be excluded so we could see some of the interview! Damn!!

  • a little funk, rock and a smooth voice you get David Bowe

  • Does anyone know how is that dance move called? I wanna learn it :3

  • back in the 70's ..it was called >the slide

  • his dance moves are so awkwardly funny...

  • That's Henry Winkler next to Dinah. The Fonz. What a time piece.

  • 3.53 - 3.55... ok I think I am going to die right now... X)

  • I just died...

  • @wildysary Did you mean 3:53 - 3:55 ?

  • Love the band. The drummar, and Carlos of course. And that white guy in the suit? Cooool.

  • I think the guy at the front in black is quite good

  • my fave bowie time, and my fave bowie posters as well, the one on the motorbike, the one with the shades and ciggy, the halloween jack posters for the upcoming gigs, boy o boy! and that phone interview with lennon on U.S radio! haha, the gems...! the unsettling interview with the black magic when someone flung themselves from the hotel roof, and bowie had all the symbols painted on his wall etc etc... and they flew past his window... wowie zowie! and er.. well, just bowie!

  • Excellent. Nice guitar work here as well.

  • This is so amazing. It's wonderful to see Bowie in that time. I love this music.. Thank you for sharing it..!

  • this song is a jam!! mr.bowie at his best!

  • the return of the thin white duke...

  • My all time FAV Bowie song! He's got such an amazing set of chords! Thanks for posting this.

  • An incredibly cool funk workout of a song, and Bowie looks and sounds the epitome of cool singing it.

  • nobody is more handsome than him

  • I am.

  • @ladystardust60 I tried very hard .. wish I could show you

  • @ladystardust60 totally agree, well except my husband of course.

  • Coke or not -this is is amazing footage of the Duke at this time-his voice is superb ,his style immaculate ,as ever.

When can we have a new Bowie in this depressing year.?

  • thanks for posting - love this track & performance - hilarious intro though as if they know nothing of his prior major colossal UK success of several years before cracking the US.

  • Mister B really rocks here, and looks like a big tower of gorgeous -- and that dancing!

  • LOL... well put :>)

  • Damn! I wish the interview was left in!!! There's something about a figure that has this much of a separation from "mainstream acceptance" interviewing with the likes of Dinah Shore during this era that I love to watch. Like seeing Frank Zappa on the Mike Douglas show... It's just mesmerizing.

  • He is so Funky!!!love funky bowie!!!

  • love his hair

  • He said he doesn't remember recording this album. Station to Station is my fave Bowie lp.

  • LOVED that lyric: "you can never really tell when somebody wants something YOU want, too!"

  • absolute pure and absolute fucking genius

  • Great Song , btw

  • krautrock meets funkdisco. another benchmark by mr jones. looking a bit less the thin white duke than the year before. how anyone can come thru cocaine abuse on the level of this man and produce work of this quality is incredible.

  • not at all, what ya think music would have sounded, if they hadn't taken cocaine

  • ha ha ha. yep. there is a slight hint of coke about the whole thing.

  • I wish I could learn that lipwork.

  • I wish I could learn that footwork.

  • Falling in love with Bowie at age 49 here.. dorky? Nah, a crush on him is hardly a surprise. I liked him in my youth but I *really* like him now.. it's exciting watching his body of work from as far back as 1971 to current. He is up there with the Beatles in terms of greatness, imo. Perhaps moreso, since he is so versatile.

  • Falling in love with David Bowie isn't dorky at any age, its almost unavoidable...

  • I like the way you think!

  • I think I can speak for the guys and agree with you ladies

  • mesmerized by footwork.....

  • would someone shut that annoying keyboard up christ im trying to enjoy teh rest of bowies band

  • Dinah Shore was so cool. She had great guests on her show like Iggy Pop and David Bowie. I wonder if she ever had Lou Reed on.

  • Stayed homer from high school to eyeball Dave that very day...Dinah just loved Dave...he is in Toronto,Canada with his wife ,we saw them 3 times already,so somethings up!

  • He is SOOO adorable when he dances!

Bowie is so very beautiful, and his voice! I could drown in that beautiful voice.....

    Got to love that man!

  • wow...i never knew the girls liked David that much! aha

  • Lol you don't want to know XD

  • @GlssSpders I saw the David Live show at the San Diego Sports Arena in 74' 7th row center ( completely sold out ) and the reaction from the girls blew me away. Security was constantly having to block people trying to rush the floor and towards the end of the show a very attractive lady jumped into my lap telling to let any security guard know was my girlfriend, trust me that didn't work. Almost every women I knew adored him.

  • his dancing is so cute lol

  • Great. Is it Tony Kaye on keyboards ?

  • not earl slick.. stacey haydon.. a real cool band eh!

  • HaHa, is that Earl Slick with the afro goin' on?! Wow, The Fonz, Nancy Walker on Dinah with Bowie as musical guest! How rare was that?! And they're ***PLAYING LIVE***, none of this lip-synch crap that you see so often these days. Perfectly executed and mixed live performance. Just another day at the office for Bowie and the boys I guess. I was in my final year of H/S when this show aired in '76.......man I'm old!

  • i love his face expression here. he's so sexy!!

  • Always so great and stunningly beautiful. Really the best there is :)

  • That little dance is awesome!

  • i love his footwork during the start of the song. haha it's just great.

  • Totally creaming right now!

  • He must be happy at the time. Stay is right for his mood.

  • Its ashame that Bowie/management never had

    concerts by Bowie filmed in the 70's....eg;

Diamond Dogs tour,Thin White Duke tour

    Station to Station tour.

  • oh, i know! its so sad! =( it depresses me so...

  • actually I think he tapes all of his live performances, he just doesn't release them all to the public

  • can easilly get dvds of many of his tours - I've got about 20 bootlegs from ebay - including statio to station, diamond dogs, thin white duke (aka Stage tour) - not all great quality but all really memorable

    good hunting

  • Early instance of the Bowie 'trouser dance' here.

  • My God, isn´t that Rhoda Morgenstern´s mum in the beginning! - Great song of the greatest artist!

  • He looks so good ^^ I mean he always does but he's just really pretty here

    And awesome as always!

  • In a word, awesome

  • Station(Funk,Soul) to Station(Berlin Trilogy)

  • what an intro speech! LoL. His dancing has always amazed me :D

  • funkiest dancing :P
