i cnat stop watching this performance i love "stay" anyway but he is so amazingly cool that even the middle age old biddies in the audience are entranced! even if you don't like him you cannot deny his unbelivable talent in this clip.
Oh, my god! It's so true: if you see this pictures and see this man and even think of the title of that album "David Live" it really had to be entitled: "David is still alive and looks as he has just stepped out of the grave!" I'm sooo thankful and still happy, that he didn't made it into that club of the 27-year-olds!
Obviously he is starstruck but Henry Winkler is so embarrassing in this segment, lol. However, this is one of my favorite Bowie performances. Love him.
I was mistaken..that wasn't Carlos Alomar on lead guitar, it was Canadian guitar star, Stacey Hayden! Carlos and Earl Slick played on the album, but didn't tour with Bowie. But, no matter! DB always had the best sidemen, and this band was no exception!
Wow. Never thought I would see a performance by Bowie that turned me off. His voice is the same but the rest of it is shit. And I love and respect Bowie like mad!
@MrCJSuperbad No, it's not Gilda, but I cannot think of her name! I think she was a regular on one of the Lucy series (not I Love Lucy). Oh this will drive me crazy tonight :)
Btw, what a powerful word in this song.. imagine someone saying "STAY" like he does here.. *falls to floor*.
@julieswahn It definitely is Nancy Walker,co star of Rhoda, alongside Julie Kavner et al........! I'm old enough to remember this shit the 1st time around!
from all the Stay live versions i've heard til now this is the best one by far. it's the only one that truly captures that funky groove of the original track.
This has become one of my favorite video. I see it practically every day, and I always wind up with a huge smile on my face. I always notice new things too. Did you see what a great time DB was having? Towards the end, the band is really cooking, and David is practically yelping ("yeow"). He's loving it..and so do I!!
David Bowie rocking an afternoon talk show -- Dinah Shore was the Oprah of the '70s -- with style and grace. Can you imagine any star of Bowie's magnitude appearing on daytime TV today? Check out Carlos' fro, and DB's foxy shuffle! A musical giant, but always humble, affable and very approachable. Did you notice David helped Dinah into her seat before he sat down? A real gent! A time capsule from the '70s and a great clip! Loved it!
ah Bowie la classitude, quelle vox sacrée, quel monstre de suavitude et ce groove sans artifices que du vrai du pur, merde, c'est pas une putain de légende pour rien
The truly great artists are seamless in their craft through the years - styles, generations, fashion. Never pigeonholed in time. eternal. That is Bowie!
@castingtherunes what ridiculous comparison , LOL ''biberine'' over bowie, Bowie is a god a genius, Beiber is so small and without credibility we should not even mentioned his name before the great Bowie. Ridiculous ... xd Bowie we love you !!!!
Bowie great as usual but the electric piano was boring and an obnoxious whine, the backup vocal was terrible and distracting and Earl Slick can play circles around the lead in this vid. I like the version on BOWIE AT THE BEEB much better.
@19elgato46 The BEEB is a great vid, but the bass and drums are lacking the funk. Carlos Alomar came from the Main Ingredient and brought with him some great players. I think Carlos wrote the guitar riffs, Slick was brought in to play lead on the album but did not tour. I saw Bowie in New Haven Ct that year.
This version has that funky break and the Barry White style 4/4 drums,
@19elgato46 in fact I think both this drummer and bass player are way better than the one in the BEEBs vid. The pocket is more pronounced. Yeah that keyboard is nasty at the start. But its over shadowed by the great scratching guitar and rhythm section.
That face, voice, and dancing...I think I'm going to melt. 4:43 onward is beyond astounding. This is one of my favorite live performances from Bowie. I could watch this video all day.
@MoGreensEye dennis davis on drums, george murray on bass, black guitarist is carlos alomar, white guitarist is stacey headon, on keyboards....maybe roy young!
Can you imagine that "Stay" is "John i'm only dancing again" chords in a more funky hard diso version. The complete recycler.Excellent live though fully stoned..
my fave bowie time, and my fave bowie posters as well, the one on the motorbike, the one with the shades and ciggy, the halloween jack posters for the upcoming gigs, boy o boy! and that phone interview with lennon on U.S radio! haha, the gems...! the unsettling interview with the black magic when someone flung themselves from the hotel roof, and bowie had all the symbols painted on his wall etc etc... and they flew past his window... wowie zowie! and er.. well, just bowie!
