Theyre back with the old sound! Listen their newest song "The Bottom". Aaron said in an interview that that the next album will be a more like a follow up to Dysfunction.
Bands change, 90%(not all) start out hard and angry as scottxc91 said w/ staind/aaron and mellow out, personally their newest albums hit me perfectly, its not hard like old stuff but who cares, find another hard band and enjoy staind for staind
Break the Cycle helped me get through alot of shit about two years ago. I was extremely angry, and lost, and every single song on that album spoke to me. Its amazing how you like something long ago, only to find it come back into your life, and competely change how you listen to it. I can def say, that back in the day I loved Break the Cycle, but now...i listen to it competely different then what i did years ago.
The reason fools who never truely LISTENED to his words think they "sold out" or changed is because he opened up to us and we were along for the times of his life. He found happiness in his wife, and his child. He healed from what was tormenting him. The Staind albums, in order, are literally the documentation of what he felt at the time. And I'm glad he found the solace and peace he has.
these videos should easily have over 1 mill views but too bad there's so many justin bieber faggot fans in the world today real music isn't looked at the same anymore :( staind rocks!
@09prizefighter09 dude this crap was like DROP A, and B ... also mike used a baritone guitar LOL... you tried tuning this low on a normal guitar you would be playing with spaghetti LOL...
it sucked cuz i didn't have the cash to buy a baritone or 7 string guitar..
The Reason I love Staind so much is every single one of their albums is great in there own way. My favorite album by them is 14 Shades of Grey but I still love every album. I like Dysfunction just as much as The Illusion of Progress. The Musical boundaries Staind has pushed just amazes me, and I can thank this song for making me as big of a fan as I am.
Selling out or not, getting popular with a certain style and then continue to move away from that style falls into both categories, being true to your art and being a douchebag.
It's his music, it's his life, it's his right but he didn't get popular by turning into a wuss.
All their CDs have gone softer and softer and softer. Instead of bitching, I've stopped listening altogether to their stuff.

great band! and one of the best singers!!! i saw so many live videos from staind and he always was perfect!!!! I try to cover some songs but to singing it like Aaron is very hard! 5*
staind needs to get heavy again. Don't get me wrong the new staind is still ok but this was so much better. Idk if truly aaron wants to sing these new songs cause of how he feels now or if he just sold out to make more money /=
He just sounds like he's in a better place mentally. It's like he's climbed the mountain and now he's just walking high now. I say good for him he's still full of musical talent, its just not what a lot of metal fans like, but I wouldn't say he sold out just evolved. Definitely didn't pull a Creed.

Staind has sold out but they did it in a slick way. I mean...their new stuff has its moments but nothing like their old stuff. But you can't expect too much fury, like Dysfunction had, out of a band that kicked off in their late 20's. I will always love Staind for their first 2 commercial albums but they no longer have my support.
Getting old or not, slowly backing into acoustic ballads ala AIC to not get caught sleeping or not...they switched up regardless and that's a blower.
You are so wrong. Stainds early stuff is cool. Break is a great song, but their acoustic stuff is truely awesome. They will be remembered for songs like Its been awhile and Everything Changes.
Their age has nothing to do with it. They will always have a lot of support with or without you.
Stainds top albums are Tormented and Break The Cycle. Dysfunction was okay but songs like suffocate and Crawl were pretty lame. Break The Cycle was the first album where every song on it was pretty good or very good.
Dude...you have no idea what you're typing. break the cycle was listened to only because of the hype Staind had from Dysfunction. I remember and know music inside and out. BTC was decent...
you have no idea why BTC was listended to. What are you, the music industry? BTC sold a shitload more albums than Dysfunction because it had some awesome songs on it. True Staind fans were wanting to listen because of what Dysfunction was leading to.. but BTC exposed Staind to a whole new base of fans. Personally Dysfunction was a let down after Tormented. But I like the direction they took with BTC.
i agree with you about BTC its a great album and i think the direction they went after that (14 shades of grey) was awesome too, you see what people like Everin78 dont realize is that musicans evolve just like everyone but fans(or so called fans) get soo wrapped up in specific albums that they dont see the evolution of the band.
Thats great logic, one album being successful because of the previous ones success? you couldnt be any more wrong. Lets take a look at some examples of this Nirvana's In Utero what preceded that? Nevermind, and In Utero didnt do nearly as well as Nevermind. Green day with Dookie, the album after that Insomniac also had poor album numbers why dont you stop while you are behind on the comments. this is a song of BTC and its a great one at that
I think the whole term "selling out" is a cop out and cliche term for a fan who just isnt interested in the band any more. I challenge anyone to give an educated answer as to what selling out even is. Because what most dont realize is that bands dont write music for fans, they write for themselves and if there are a few million people who share the same interest in what a bands created than more power to them, but this business of catering to every fans preference is just dumb
You're a fuckin' idiot. Selling out means changing ways. Its like being notorious for driving fast...then suddenly notorious for driving slow. Makes no fuckin' sense. Period.
until you become a musican you have no basis or solid background to fucking judge.i guess when Aaron lewis wrote the song "Layne" which was his tribute to layne staley of AIC i guess that was selling out i know record exec really pushed for that, you're a moron listen to staind songs and really look at the lyrics there isnt a single staind song that is pressured by record executives which would be the closest thing to selling out, as you put it
Too much information. Selling out is selling out and Staind definitely sold out. Especially for writing a song called Layne. Trying to cash in. Could have called it Shit. But Layne? Obvious man. No real tribute song is named directly after anyone.
SOLD OUT are u crazy, the sound of the music reflects directly from the band and no where else torment dysfunction, hard hitting methodical go F*** the world albums then there was Break the Cycle see the meaning the other albums after Break the Cycle were softer and more friendly thats how the band felt follows there life from an emotional and professional stance
They didn't sell out at all. Aaron Lewis writes real music, and that's all he cares about. He could probably care less about your opinion on his musical style. He writes about his life, and what he's feeling. In the earlier albums he was clearly an angry man. He has a family now, and he's obviously happier. So naturally his writing will be happier. You can see the progression through the albums. It's not a sell out. They didn't change their ways to make money, only to keep from being fake.
Your 100% correct. People think If Staind write one song in a major key or lighter tuning thats the end of it. You people will know if you Staind fans, Aarons always used music as a vent, His wife and 3 beautiful children are now his life and thats it. I love Illusion of progress, dont get me wrong when I was younger and agressive Dysfunction and Tormented helped. Id have Four walls on repeat, cut them some slack and stop judging please.
It would be fake if he would change and the music would stay the same...
maybe it´s the same with Serj Tankian,
when he was in System Of A Down he had some very angry songs (especially in the self-titled and toxicity) and now he is no longer screaming and growling and most of his songs from the solo album are more harmonic and sometimes also "happy"
@ScottXC91 Exactly, you're on point with whoever you were telling off. Personally, I am more into Staind's older stuff. The reason being is at the stage I'm at in my life, I'm an angry person. I'm going through stuff and naturally I'm attracted to angrier despondent music. He has progressed and wrote about his progression throughout the albums. If they were still writing like this, it would be contrived.
@ScottXC91 right, the same with Linkin Park, if they both had selled out they would play/make music the fans want to hear.. not what the band itself want to make..
yea, i will admit that their older stuff from tormented (their first and darkest cd) and dysfunction (2nd and heavier shit) was a lot better then the shit that was softer and overplayed like its been a while and outside, they still are great songs but they were on every radio station like every other 10 minutes....but what sucked was people said they loved them, but thats not who staind origianlly was, but when they started writing softer shit, more people listened to that so they stuck with it
I think they're just finding their sound and trying to strike a balance between old a new. They still have some heavy stuff even on Chapter V. Listen to 'King of All Excuses' and stuff like that. Reminds me of their older albums in a way.
They are awesome BUT I want them to play heavy again. Most of the so called stand fans these days dont even know about dysfunction. let alone the cd that was before it. They really overdid it with all the accoustic stuff. You can tell everybody besides Aaron want to play heavy. He can still have his deep lyrics mean something but play it heavy.
Alrite man, there greatest hits CD has four live acoustic tracks at the end of the album and the other twelve tracks is work from there five albums like "Mudshovel","Outside","It's Been A While","Right Here" and more, they are also releasing a dvd featuring all there videos which is released on the same day as there greatest hits CD. For more information go to www.staind.com.
SEEMS ALOT LIKE THEIR OTHER ONE THEY SOLD WITH THE CHAPTER 5 THINGY... they had "4 acoustic songs and the cd...and a dvd of staind and the video for "right here"...but anywayz...i fuckin luv staind... can't w8 for the greatest hits cd to come out!!!

You are so wrong. Stainds early stuff is cool. Break is a great song, but their acoustic stuff is truely awesome. They will be remembered for songs like Its been awhile and Everything Changes.
Their age has nothing to do with it. They will always have a lot of support with or without you.
benza1987 4 years ago 4
Haha! Are you crazy? What kind of support? The retarded kind? Surely not the real kind.
And they'll be remembered for Mudshovel long after It's Been Awhile is forgotten. You can take that to the bank.
tristandinho 4 years ago
Yeah because Mudshovel spent 16 weeks at number 1. Fuck off. Break the cycle was their biggest and best album. No doubt.
Crazy?Yes!Dumb?No!
benza1987 4 years ago
Dude...BTC fuckin' sucked compared to Dysfunction. Everyone rocked BTC because Dysfunction rocked so much.
Everin78 4 years ago
Stainds top albums are Tormented and Break The Cycle. Dysfunction was okay but songs like suffocate and Crawl were pretty lame. Break The Cycle was the first album where every song on it was pretty good or very good.
benza1987 4 years ago
Dude...you have no idea what you're typing. break the cycle was listened to only because of the hype Staind had from Dysfunction. I remember and know music inside and out. BTC was decent...
tristandinho 4 years ago
you have no idea why BTC was listended to. But I like the direction they took with BTC.
benza1987 4 years ago
i agree with you about BTC its a great album and i think the direction they went after that (14 shades of grey) was awesome too, you see what people like Everin78 dont realize is that musicans evolve just like everyone but fans(or so called fans) get soo wrapped up in specific albums that they dont see the evolution of the band.
sweirich 4 years ago
Thats great logic, one album being successful because of the previous ones success? you couldnt be any more wrong. Lets take a look at some examples of this Nirvana's In Utero what preceded that? Nevermind, and In Utero didnt do nearly as well as Nevermind. Green day with Dookie, the album after that Insomniac also had poor album numbers why dont you stop while you are behind on the comments. this is a song of BTC and its a great one at that

It didn't suck compared to Dysfuntion, but it certainly wasn't as good.

omg no way...staind has not sold out...
dysfunctional0213 4 years ago
I think the whole term "selling out" is a cop out and cliche term for a fan who just isnt interested in the band any more. I challenge anyone to give an educated answer as to what selling out even is. Because what most dont realize is that bands dont write music for fans, they write for themselves and if there are a few million people who share the same interest in what a bands created than more power to them, but this business of catering to every fans preference is just dumb
sweirich 4 years ago
You're a fuckin' idiot. Selling out means changing ways. Its like being notorious for driving fast...then suddenly notorious for driving slow. Makes no fuckin' sense. Period.
Everin78 4 years ago
until you become a musican you have no basis or solid background to fucking judge.i guess when Aaron lewis wrote the song "Layne" which was his tribute to layne staley of AIC i guess that was selling out i know record exec really pushed for that, you're a moron listen to staind songs and really look at the lyrics there isnt a single staind song that is pressured by record executives which would be the closest thing to selling out, as you put it
sweirich 4 years ago
Too much information. Selling out is selling out and Staind definitely sold out. Especially for writing a song called Layne. Trying to cash in. Could have called it Shit. But Layne? Obvious man. No real tribute song is named directly after anyone.
tristandinho 4 years ago
SOLD OUT are u crazy, the sound of the music reflects directly from the band and no where else torment dysfunction, hard hitting methodical go F*** the world albums then there was Break the Cycle see the meaning the other albums after Break the Cycle were softer and more friendly thats how the band felt follows there life from an emotional and professional stance
Leewall1 4 years ago
They didn't sell out at all. Aaron Lewis writes real music, and that's all he cares about. He could probably care less about your opinion on his musical style. He writes about his life, and what he's feeling. In the earlier albums he was clearly an angry man. He has a family now, and he's obviously happier. So naturally his writing will be happier. You can see the progression through the albums. It's not a sell out. They didn't change their ways to make money, only to keep from being fake.
ScottXC91 3 years ago 66
yea people don't understand its not 1999 anymore lol.. aaron has 3 kids, mike has kids, there all older and more mature..
staind420 3 years ago 3
Exactly, and some people just don't take the time to understand that.
ScottXC91 3 years ago 3
Your 100% correct. People think If Staind write one song in a major key or lighter tuning thats the end of it. You people will know if you Staind fans, Aarons always used music as a vent, His wife and 3 beautiful children are now his life and thats it. I love Illusion of progress, dont get me wrong when I was younger and agressive Dysfunction and Tormented helped. Id have Four walls on repeat, cut them some slack and stop judging please.

TOTALLY AGREE!
wilfre2 3 years ago
It would be fake if he would change and the music would stay the same...
maybe it´s the same with Serj Tankian,
when he was in System Of A Down he had some very angry songs (especially in the self-titled and toxicity) and now he is no longer screaming and growling and most of his songs from the solo album are more harmonic and sometimes also "happy"
heythinkaboutit 2 years ago
Lmao doesn't one of his songs talk about 9/11? Man is that happy.
jassonn768 2 years ago
none that i know of lol....
staind420 2 years ago
@ScottXC91 Exactly, you're on point with whoever you were telling off. Personally, I am more into Staind's older stuff. The reason being is at the stage I'm at in my life, I'm an angry person. I'm going through stuff and naturally I'm attracted to angrier despondent music. He has progressed and wrote about his progression throughout the albums. If they were still writing like this, it would be contrived.

@ScottXC91 right, the same with Linkin Park, if they both had selled out they would play/make music the fans want to hear.. not what the band itself want to make..

borikua2007 4 years ago 2
yea, i will admit that their older stuff from tormented (their first and darkest cd) and dysfunction (2nd and heavier shit) was a lot better then the shit that was softer and overplayed like its been a while and outside, they still are great songs but they were on every radio station like every other 10 minutes....but what sucked was people said they loved them, but thats not who staind origianlly was, but when they started writing softer shit, more people listened to that so they stuck with it
dysfunctional213 4 years ago
I think they're just finding their sound and trying to strike a balance between old a new. They still have some heavy stuff even on Chapter V. Listen to 'King of All Excuses' and stuff like that. Reminds me of their older albums in a way.
predatordes 4 years ago 2
personally I prefer Chapter V to other albums......... Even though all their CDs are great.
PAT2AB4CREED 4 years ago
That's the only way a band can become bigger and/or stay on the market.......Sometimes you have no choice...........Staind are great man.....

Nothing against Aaron Lewis or Staind, but I'd much rather perfer their accoustic work.
Kristian2006 4 years ago
They are awesome BUT I want them to play heavy again. Most of the so called stand fans these days dont even know about dysfunction. let alone the cd that was before it. They really overdid it with all the accoustic stuff. You can tell everybody besides Aaron want to play heavy. He can still have his deep lyrics mean something but play it heavy.
