@AngryAussie You mention how we can work around the filter, but you forgot the one best way. Proxies. Set up your proxies (which is super easy btw) and it'll be as if the filter never existed. You'll be using the internet like normal. Another thing, you know how they are using child porn as the primary reason for this filter? guess what. They have to know it exists first before it is blocked, and it has to be on a website. As it is right now, if they found child porn, the site gets shut down.

We don't get airsoft guns, there are fines in Queensland for public swearing, any video game the government deems too offensive they slap on the BAN-HAMMER. What we do know, is that the Government wants the blocking mechanism in place, for all we know they might block AA for making videos on subjects like this, they might be planning to block legal porn, they might be planning to block any number of things. @AngryAussie Try the internet in N.Z, the best ISP's in NZ have starting plans of 8MB connection with a WHOPPING 3GB of data for around $80-$100....thats wired BTW. The best one I seen had 8MB connection, 50GB data all for a low low price of $200....per month.

@AngryAussie ISP's are part of the problem, they don't do enough to support us, in Sweden when the government decided to introduce their stupid data retention scheme, all the ISP's rallied together and put all their customers through VPN's. The EuroISPA lobbied to their Governments to tell them blocking doesn't work. When have ours done that?

@dabois85 OK firstly, censorship isn't making the pedophiles go out and molest children,its making them go underground ie. forcing them to use VPN/TOR/Proxy/usenet/P2P/Email and many many more ways of bypassing the filter AND making it a lot harder for law enforcement to actually do their job.
Now the main problem with the filter is:
1. It won't work
2. It takes much needed money from the feds (who have been begging the government for more money for ages.)

@dabois85 @dabois85 Now the reason this is wrong, is because, the internet isn't a broadcast medium per se, essentially, first and foremost, the internet is a communications medium. That is what it was created for and that is what it is primarily used for today, look at what we are doing now, look at what Angry Aussie is allowing us to do with him. You see the although Conroy doesn't want to be shown it, Internet is NOT "just like T.V and Radio and Cinema" because the internet continued.....

@dabois85 The internet can do all those things and more, you can watch T.V through the internet, Movies through the internet, play games through the internet, call people through the internet, use chat programs through the internet. But mos important of all, you can have YOUR SAY, through the internet, AA is essentially capable of telling his opinion to the whole world, thanks to the internet, fact of the matter is, the internet is NOT just like TV etc etc etc.

@dabois85 The scariest problem with this filter, is the fact that no one knows its true purpose (at least no one who is not in on the whole thing). What we do know, is that the Government wants the blocking mechanism in place, for all we know they might block AA for making videos on subjects like this, they might be planning to block legal porn, they might be planning to block any number of things. On the leaked black list, 3/4 of it was LEGAL content, even a dentist had his website put on it.

Did you know that in most countries where there is a dictatorship there is a lack of education about other parts of the world? The internet is a tool to stop a capping of education. Take away knowledge and the power of the people will fall. However in your case you should have your internet taken away so hopefully you don't spread stupidity to others.

@AngryAussie Try the internet in N.Z, the best ISP's in NZ have starting plans of 8MB connection with a WHOPPING 3GB of data for around $80-$100....thats wired BTW. The best one I seen had 8MB connection, 50GB data all for a low low price of $200....per month.

@AngryAussie ISP's are part of the problem, they don't do enough to support us, in Sweden when the government decided to introduce their stupid data retention scheme, all the ISP's rallied together and put all their customers through VPN's. Also they charged you for opting out of the VPN, thereby making any data collected on the people, completely fucking useless. The EuroISPA lobbied to their Governments to tell them blocking doesn't work. When have ours done that?

Sorry, mate, but I doubt if what they mean by filtering things. The truth is, they just want to prevent all these inappropriate things to kids. Internet censorship is there because if those words aren't censored, the kids learn them. They get in trouble because they learnt the words and they don't know that it is illegal.

That means, no, it's not that you won't be blocked completely away from those websites. They just aim around kids' community so that only adults would know about the "filtered" websites. YouTube is a great example. Some videos on YouTube is not available to us because they belong SOMEWHERE ELSE. I am indeed sure that you mistook the government's means. Do you REALLY have to be that stubborn? I think otherwise.

In chat sites, they censor out bad words because the kids might learn them. It still desn't mean that adults have to suffer the consequenses. I am very certain that you will find your own paradise without ending up "threatened" by the government. Oh, by the way, there are many more communists countries that you might think. There are Japan, Cuba, NK (I forgot what that was), and Russia (I still believe they are only democratic on the outside).

I actually always loved Australia, and here in Vancouver we have LOTS of Australians. They're all amazingly cool people, and very chill and easy going. The last thing I expected from one of the most developed countries in hte world is internet censorship. This is like something the government of Iran or North Korea would do, definitely didn't expect this from Australia...

How about they start with TV, seriously I downgraded my SKY tv and i still got those porn channels that i dont want, they declined the idea, all i want is to get rid of the perverted channels and replace it with one channel i want that is ESPN for hockey games, why pay for load of channels i don't want! Government can easily turn those off by taking them out of the package n make them optional for people who are that desperate (i can go on even more with more points if comments wernt limit
