I will miss those M-1's and M-3's. You could unwind after a long day with a beer and stand up front and watch the miles roll by. Beats sitting crammed into 2wide-3wide seats with a drooling sleeper. The best was at night in the winter after heavy snows. The shoe on the pickup would arc on the third rail and produce wonderful lightning at night as you raced along at 70 mph.
Actually, you don't need to honk right as you pass the sign. You can be a few seconds or so late but at least you do have to sooner or later honk the horn.
He was honking because for some reason, they have to honk when crossing a street or when tracks merge. Ive noticed that when I take the train to and from my girlfriends house out east, right before (going west) and right after (going east) Hicksville, they honk. It's rather pointless if you ask me...
Back in January or 2000, I had a comp ticket to fly on Southwest Airlines. I used it to fly from Memphis to Long Islip where Southwest flies into. We took the LIRR from Ronkonkoma(spelling?) into NYC. I recall being able to see the WTC/Twin Towers from the station and seeing the skyline with the towers as the train approached Manhattan was a sheer sight to see.
the LIRR is the best way to get around... i have never been late to school with them since i hav been riding on their railroad... i must say its a very organized rail system...

When I watched the video again, before the little tunnel I saw a "W" sign which stands for "Horn".
