I think that Reid looks at it as more of an "Us against them" thing. Not as an "Us" (or should I say "U.S.") thing.

I think the "them" is the republican block that is keeping our troops in harms way despite overwhelming public disapproval.
In this case, democrats regaining power is moving us back toward democracy.
