When communicating with a person with an interpreter, keep eye-contact with this person (even if he doesnt understand you or even if it feels awkward) as much as possibile, especially if you are the one saying something. Only look at the interpreter during the time that he/she makes the translation of what the "main" person has just said. I know it's really awkward, but this is the etiquette.
