  • I used to fly the md-11. Now i'm flying the b747. Love those days...

  • md-11 are unsafe at landing, thats why they have all been converted to freight, and even while freight they bounce and crash alot. in 97 one crashed in newark ewr after such a bounce. its a problem they all know but put up with.

  • MD-11 doesnt like to land

  • not bad landing

  • REMEMBER FLARING IN A SMALL PLANE WILL RESULT IN LIFT,THE MD11 IS REALLY LIGHT AND YOU HAVE TO TREAT IT LIKE A LADY(SENSITIVE),,ON THE OTHER HAND IF THAT WAS A 747,A321 IF YOU FLARE THEM TOO MUCH IT WILL RESULT IN STALL OR FRAME STRUCTURE DMG,

  • normal landing scene

  • at least the pilot can log two landings :)

  • omg that was unreal

  • That's a tiny bounce! And it looks to me like they touched down right in the touchdown zone too.

  • thats what makes it fun.

  • That runway really slopes downhill

  • I hate that when it happens to me in fsx

  • If worsened by 50%, that'd be almost how the Fed Ex MD 11 crashed at Tokyo. The MD11 is a bad bouncer *yikes*

  • it's vertical stabilizer is too small for it's size i think?

  • @alluminyo

if that would be the problem, that company would be so badly sued that it would bankrupt...that's why they have aviation engineers and designers...

  • @superfestiva listen to Captain Chuck Nash's explanation (starting at 2:15 in the video)...not an MD-11 pilot but interesting insight into the plane's supposed small horizontal stabilizers (not vertical as alluminyo says) and inadequate pitch authority; at least until the anchor so inopportunely interrupts him...can't post the link so search for "Fedex MD-11 Flight 80 (N526FE) Cargo Plane Crash In Tokyo Narita Int. Airport-Real Time" it's a Fox News broadcast.

  • @raysonehovijitra The horizontal stabilizers on the MD11 are smaller for a reason, namely that given the fuselage extensions over the DC10, the COG is farther ahead. so it needs less stabilizer. Proper MD11 training emphasizes that to arrest vertical speed on landing, elevator is to be used very little, using engine power instead, those three big 60K pounders are wide awake during flaring. Pulling on the yoke is a temptation, especially for DC10 drivers, but it's a mistake on the 11

  • @sobelou Is that how the Fed Ex Md-11 crashed in Japan a few years ago?

  • @coolsax64 Only to explain the initial bouncing (perhaps), it loos to me like the doomed plane landed on the side of a microburst, which would explain that right after the bouncing its left wing entered the tail wind area of the microburst, (or the right wing went into the headwing part of it) causing what looks like an asymmetrical stall, with the left wing losing all lift and the nose pointing down. It's simply too hard to explain, but the asymmetrical stall is visible.

  • @coolsax64 No, it was high trade winds who picked up the plane and threw it on its side basically

  • @wowdude999 You have no clue...

  • @coolsax64 Maybe. I've saw the crash, but I think it was because of the wind shear at under 600 meters. The shear cause the plane to porpoise and slide on it's left wing and burst into flames.

  • @sobelou :) thx wish i understood what you just said but someday when i become a pilot. cheers.

  • dont bonce to hard... the plane will fall apart!!

    xD

  • sound crazy but yes they do, i work at miami int'l and i see them all the time

  • do people just sit by runways with video cameras waiting for fuck ups?

  • @ggaalleenn1 It is actually a hobby called "airport spotting". Look it up. It is actually pretty fun for those who have a interest in aviation. If you can actually catch a mess up on camera, you have something to brag about to your spotting buddies. :)

  • @ggaalleenn1 yes. just like going to the races to watch the crashes

  • @ggaalleenn1

YOU re the fuck up pal.

  • @ggaalleenn1 Some lawyers are ambulance chasers, some are plane chasers.

  • @ggaalleenn1 haha :)

  • Decent landing for the circumstances(wind).

  • Pretty steep decent.

  • Nice

  • He might of had lots of gusts and his airspeed was jumping u can tell by when the plane flew over u the wings wet flaping.u can tell that he was going a bit slow and fast to keep the planes airspeed from going to stalling speed back to its landing speed. but u can put lots of stress on the plane if u are too fast.

  • What's lots of gusts and jumping airspeed? Pilots correct for gust with a base number called vREF (reference velocity). It's an umber based on landing gross weight that's used to calculate min speed configured for flaps setting, gust, or steady state wind. Please don't comment on anything aviation related.

  • Classic Md-11 landing during wind. It is blowing around 16 knots as far as I can see, probably with some significant gust, and that is probably what made them bounce. They lost some speed, touched town a bit hard and bounced only to touch down a bit harder. Good thing they did not overcorrect!

  • @onesiteonly If you look at the landing of the Fed Ex md 11 in Japan that crashed, It did the same thing, touched down then bounced except it turned over to starboard then fliped. I am not a pilot. Could you answer why it did that?

  • @coolsax64 The pilot possibly tried to stabilese the aircraft also while fighting againt a crosswind im no airline pilot but i am a private pilot in my opinon that's what i rekin happend

  • looks like he tried to correct his vertical descent but pitched up a little too much. when I was learning to fly in Flight Simulator, I would end up doing things like this.....I had a tendency to drop it on the runway and at times added power and then plane just ended up climbing again a little before dropping back on to the runway, it was terrible, lol...13 years of simming and now I can bring em down and land like a feather.

  • flight sim please, i would recommend it to get proficient on istrument skills, but thats it, it doesn t even come close to fly an airplane sorry dude you wasted 13 years of your life playing a video game. For BANGERS68:

There s no wind at all and you can see it from the grass/flowers on the ground that don t move,

  • I ddin't fly in a sim 13 years to learn how to fly in real life bro, it did it for fun. wasted? I don't think so, those years have been the most fun filled years of my life!

  • Are you stupid? Look at the trees in the first 10 seconds, and the wind is stronger the higher you go...

  • The MD-11 has a tendency to bounce if you flare slightly too much.

  • @Stjepan999

has a tendency to crash if you board one, as well

  • @Stjepan999 I'd say that all airplanes have a tendency to bounce if you flare slightly too much.:)

  • @Stjepan999 I could be wrong but that might be why a FedEx MD11 wrecked at Narita - too much flare (leading to that first bounce), the small back wings, and overcorrecting.

  • This is not uncommon. I've been watching planes land at LAX since the early 90's and bounces like this happen all the time, although that second touchdown was pretty hard.

  • Ever hear the one abou tthe MD-11 that crashed at Narita? Loss of elevator control on touch-down?

  • this is a fine landing in such strong wind

  • What does your mom have in common with that 747 holding short??????????

    Both WIDE body!

  • Similar to the FEDEX crash at NRT. Same type - MD11 during high winds.

  • Same plane, but not the same landing. The nose remained raised while bouncing. The crew didn't bother pitching down because the airspeed it low enough. The FedEx, not only it landed hard, but also it landed too fast. The aircraft is fast enough to produce lift, the crew appeared to tried to pitched down to keep the plane from going up, but ended up having a see-saw effects between the maingear and the nose gear.

  • he catched a wind gust on landing thats why it bounced

  • ouch i feel bad for the passengers cause that was a hard landing and it probably scared the crap out of some of them

  • i think only few died from hearth attack :P joking xD

  • It was a freighter, no passengers aside from the crew. The iPods on board were probably frightened though.

  • Dumbasss.. u need Glasses??? it's CARGO!!!

  • Are you sure it's not DC-10 ?

  • Yep. :) Center gear, check. Raked wingtips, check.. you sure you didn't just click "Post Comment" too quickly? Just teasing you.. yes, that's definitely an MD-11.

  • Yes it is an MD-11 but remember the DC-10-30 had centre gear also, to cope with the higher take off/landing weight and yes I know I am far too anal!!!

  • Oh ye! :D I didn't even notice the wingtips. And yes! I posted the comment too quickly :D

  • This was not a bad landing **rolls eyes**

  • OUCH!!

  • Were the passengers charged by the airport authorities for two arrivals?

  • The next touch down was really awful....

  • I know for sure the PAPI lights were showing Red over Red

  • maybe a short runway?? i don't know the airport

  • No if the Runway was short the pilot wouldn`t attempt to bring a MD-11 down. Maybe it was a Thermal while he was flaring.

  • no, i'm sayin like maybe close to the aircrafts minimum runway length... idk though i'm not a pilot, but you could be right, it was just a guess

  • It cant be..because it seems it a fairly large runway..see an 747 is holding short for take off..they have very large TORRs(take off run required)

  • WORLD AIR CARGO,, AKA.. FedEX.....

  • CAST AWAY lol

  • Nice video

  • a nice landing by an MD11
