Go Boats!! He used to be my PO I just found this by accident I never knew they did it. and to all of you who doubt the sincerity of this man dedication to his job SHOVE IT he was happy and proud to be on that ship and our heads were too that clean. Not everyone had Coffin lockers either. Some of us got stand up lockers because we had the top bunk Like myself and a friend of mine. And being a BM isn't so bad as long as your ship isn't undermanned like mine still it was fun I enjoyed it.
I can't believe the luxury on that ship!! It's like a 4 star hotel!! I served on 2 destroyers from '68-'72 as a BM2,and they were fromWW2. We had the old canvass racks held together with rope!! And the heads were nothing like that!! Wow!! If I wasn't 61 I'd re-enlist!!
I've tried serving in the Navy before but, do to immigration and later having small kids I was unable to join...Now I finally get to realize my dream and finally do something with my life with a meaning...I have my ASBV and MEPS in two days...Thank you God for the opportunity...Despite now being from this country and what ever Republicans have to say regarding immigrants I will serve my second (since I was born in another country) God bless USA!!!

I spent a year and a half working for Royal Caribbean based out of Miami. I spent a lot of time on a ship, but it wasn't in the military. Are a lot of enlistees coming in over 30? I'm 31 and want to join. OCS seems to be out of the question for civilians. The Officer recruiters will not return calls or emails.
Someone must have worked their asses off on field days for this video. Yes, I think it's a bit sugar coated but the basics of life on the ship is the same.
This is really interesting. I loved watching it. My husband (We got married in '09 at 18 and 19) is almost done with basic training in the Navy and this is really helpful with understanding and seeing things. THANKS FOR POSTING!
"Plenty of storage space?" That's a nice joke Boswun (^__^)
And the ENTIRE NAVY needs that ship's head crew. I've never seen a toilet that resembles a real toilet in the NAVY. It looks so clean, goes against everything I know.
Maybe cuz I've served on carriers my whole time in.
"Getting a package" That's 100% correct
My only thing is
"WE NEED THAT HEAD CREW ON MY SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
@brittanygerrie No thats what they tell u. In fact, if u didn't show up to meps they couldn't do anything. U have the right to get out "honorably" even after the completion of boot camp. Who knows u may like it, After boot camp if u decide that its not for u, do not be afraid to get out dont feel trapped. Just sayin....
This isn't fake. He really loves his job. I didn't. Which is why I only did 4 years and got out as OS2. Frigate life was garbage. I wish I had gotten San Diego instead of Jax FL
Heh. 6'4" should be fine. I'm 6 foot even, and I had no problem with any of my bunks. We had an XO who was about 6'8" and we had a Filipino about 7'2" Both of them walked stooped over almost everywhere. At 6'4" you probably won't have to stoop over - but you WILL have a chronic headache until you learn to duck for watertight doors, pipes and valves, conduits, etc. It took me a couple months to grow accustomed to those hazards - if you're smarter than I was, maybe you'll learn faster.
It is that clean because I've been on it - it's because its a brand newly commissioned ship. And the Master Chief is that happy - that is her personality! :)
He's Sailor of The Year. He's the best of the best. Nobody's skipping & whistling, but the better sailors have very good morale. The losers are the people with the attitude problems.
I have to agree with maverickls - whichever service you choose, it is what you make of it. Many people are only marginally fit for service, for a variety of reasons. Those who are there to "serve", and can tolerate some inconveniences manage to make more of their service than others.
none sense...living on the ship is so depressing wether you can tolerate it or not. I would compare it to jail..but in jail you dont have bells and whistles going off at different hours of the day... (I have 3 carriers and 2 DDG's under my belt)
there's a tv series called carrier on kpbs that show the life in a carrier. Google kpbs carrier full episodes and you can see the whole series for free on its website
Not so. In port, water is abundant. At sea, water can be rationed if the evaps aren't keeping up. Sailors are taught early to conserve water. Get wet, lather up, turn water off, scrub down, turn water on, then rinse. But, people routinely "waste" water, unless and until water starts to run short. Of course, if an evap goes down, water will be rationed, and you may not get a shower at all. Stuff happens....
