  • lol my balas eat minnows for some reason

  • @warriorscatsrule805 happens all the time, the minnows might be too small for the bala's so they are just food in their eyes.

  • Great video! You take really good care of your bala sharks. Nice aquarium by the way. I want to get some balas but I can't afford a big aquarium I have a 10 gal. With little starter fish :)

  • @MrTorres325 Thanks I appreciate it,it can get quite costly to take care of fish "properly". Alot of people don't realize that, they will throw fish like bala's or other large growing fish in small thanks. I am glad that your buying the right fish for your budget, in time I am sure you will get a bigger tank. For some reason peoples budgets grow to the level of involvement for a hobby lol.

  • @CallMeTonyG ha yeah thanks. i really dont see why people put big fishes that need room to swim into small tanks but yep i will get somee eventuly then i will post it as a reply to show you

  • what size is this tank ??

  • @sistersTBC 55 gallons

  • Nice looking Balas! I have a couple in my aquarium, mixed in with a lot of other species as well. For those inquiring about the right tank size... I wouldn't think about anything below a 75 gallon. You'll eventually need to upgrade to at least that size anyway. An aquarium of 125 is even better. Balas get large quickly, 12-14 inches easily! Mine are fairly young (almost 11 months), and are already about 5 inches. Drop by and view my many unique videos. I subbed you feel free to sub back.

  • im thinking of getting a bala shark but i dont know how large they grow to and what size tank one shark will need. do you have any suggestions?

  • @BieberFeverForever41 bala's get to about 12+ inches at full size, their growth rate varies mine are about year and half old and around 4+ inches, I know a friend of mine his got to about 8 inches in 2 years. I would suggest a 55gallon tank, if you can go larger thats always better. You can start with a 20 gallon but within a year or two a bala will need more room.

  • @BieberFeverForever41 check mine out in my 125 my local fish store said one time they saw 2 in a 500 gallon they got 2 feet long

  • I want to get some bala sharks and was wondering how much would 2 bala sharks a 55 g tank a filter and bubbles (if the bubbles and filter are needed) some decor and a stand would cost

  • @airsoftpro251 the stand needed for a 55 gallon tank is basically like a piece of furniture because it needs to handle so much weight. My tank which is 55 gallons the table it goes on and all the other accessories needed cost me close to 400 dollars. The fish only cost about 10-20 dollars depending where you buy them and at what size a large bala is close to 10 dollars a small is only 3-4 dollars

  • could I have bala shark in a 55 gal?

  • @jean9910 My tank is 55 gallon and they do well, maybe at total grown size they may lack room. Peoples beliefs on fish to tank size vary. There are people that think its cruelty to put a bala in anything under 150 gallons, bottom line its preference and just using some logic in your choice is whats important.

  • @jean9910 why dont people read before they post

  • dude, i just bought 2 balas and I'm keeping them in a bowl.. bad idea? with no air regulator... kinda thought of buying a goldfish and saw the balas in the pet store and got bedazzled. lol

I see guys talking about 20 gallon tanks, shit! my bowl is about 1 gallon.

any tips?? cause i can't upgrade the bowl right now.. the balas won't eat the food that i got them, they seem to not see it floating.

by the way i just bought them like 5 hrs ago.

    so yah, i'm a rookie.

    HELP!!!!

  • @2IAN4 Hey, as far a food they tend to like flakes that fall over time tetramin crisps work for mine. As far as putting them in 1 gallon bowl. You could keep them that way for few months but you need a bigger tank , they will be stressed and die within the year for sure. They also need aeration it helps them breath plus it helps good bacteria grow in water. If you want to stick with 1 gallon you need to bring those balas back and get minnows or goldfish.

  • @CallMeTonyG yeah, I'll probably transfer them to a bigger container just maybe not a tank for now.. if i don't have aeration yet, how often do you think I should replace the water? everyday maybe?

  • @2IAN4 usually fish will suffocate within about 3 days without new oxygen, I would do a 1/3rd to half water changed maybe twice a week but you have to remember to let that water sit a day or so, so chlorine evaporates.

  • @CallMeTonyG yeah, i know thatpart already.. I change water every 2 days though.. I bought the sinkers, since they weren't eating the floaters.. but they seem to put it in their mouth then spit it out or something.. hopefully when i check them later the sinkers are gone..

  • @2IAN4 although you may not see them eating it they do take the little food particles in when they take in water to breath and are basically eating that way.

  • @CallMeTonyG ok iu got you.. thanx.. just upgraded to a bigger tank and bought 2 hammer head catfish.

  • I had a pleco in my goldfish tank it died and the goldfish ate it.

  • @bobzzz23 lol yeah putting a pleco in a goldfish tank is over kill there wouldnt be enough algae for them

  • @CallMeTonyG are you serious? I had no clue what about pond snails?

  • @OreosRYum my tank is usually mid to high 70's in temperature. To be honest bala sharks if you feed them a lot get big pretty quickly my tank in liters is well over 200 and my tanks considered on the small end of whats acceptable for these little guys. I am not one to judge or tell people what they can and can't with their aquariums but a bigger tank in long run is what they should have at around 50+ gallons.

  • @ThornPwned bala sharks get along with most fish along as they are similar size but a 8 or 9 inch long bala will eat minnows and small fish if its hungry. A rule of thumb I've mentioned before is balas will pretty much est whatever they can fit in their mouth.

  • Hey I Just got my balas a week ago and they dont seem like there eating the tropical fish flakes or the mini pellets...there only about an inch or 1.5 inches long and my other fish (different kind) seems to eat all the food very quickly...What should i feed them? Bloodworms?

  • @Chris747xbox360 you can try blood worms or frozen or freeze dried brine shrimp when my balas were smaller they would eat brine shrimp eventually they got big to the point they didnt really see the live brine shrimp in water. The freeze dried cubes they will peck at also the tetramin crisps they look like little discs not flakes sometimes work instead of regular fish flakes.

  • My balas like frozen food like brine shrimp and bloodworms

  • what food is that at 1:34? and will they get big if they it baby guppies? respond pls

  • @aljondavid those are small fish pellets, I actually just did a 1 year update I will be uploading soon.

  • Hi there, i have not seen my 3 bala s eat anything since i got them 1 month back....have been feeding floating baby pellets, colour enhancing food, algae wafers,,,,bala don't eat any damn thing.....how are they survivng...??? how to feed them.....plz help...

  • @BAHADURKAMAR They might be eating when your not watching, also have they gotten smaller since you bought them? Usually fish can go about 2 weeks without eating before dying. I am sure they are eating something or waiting for the water to really soak into the food and they peck at it when it lands on your ornaments or in the gravel in the bottom of the tank. Use very small pellets and tetra-min flakes. Thats what I do best of luck.

  • You really need to help me design my tank... hahaha.

  • @Miamisportsfan Bit of advice don't get those wood barrel hidouts when my bala's got bigger I accidentally scared one when going into my room and he swam into it but couldn't get out. Luckily I got him out with only a few scales coming off for sure he would have died If I didnt notice what happened.I also took that column in the back left out cause they kept swimming into it and either getting hurt or knocking it over. They basically have a straight shot from one side of the tank to the other.

  • I just bought bala Sharks, do you feed yours pellets?

  • @anissaanddanika i feed them flakes and fish pellets and sometimes a few algae wafers.

  • pls answer quickly is a 26.4 inches long and 16.9 inches high aquaruim good for raising two bala sharks!? (i kno my english is bad but i dont care)

  • @Themrunkownguy1 depends on how old they are, if they are still juveniles then its ok for now but they will grow and need a bigger tank probably within a year or so.

  • I fed my bala shark flakes, pellets, and algae thins. It just spits them out. It is 3 inches long. What am I supposed to feed it now?

  • @stuntjunky3000 mine occasionally eat algae thins but they really like the the tetramin flakes and they like fish pellets just make sure you get right size for them to swallow if your bala is smaller they wont try to eat the bigger pellets.

  • @stuntjunky3000 try feeding it frozen blood worms.

  • these are the same thing as tricolor sharks right??

  • @boredvlad23 sorry for late response but yes they are called tricolor and they are also called silver sharks.

  • @An3ggPlant1 I've had a bala shark for a week now and he is about 4 or 5 inches big and he does the same thing. I really don't know if he ate yet. I wonder why? if anyone can help, i would appreciate it. Thanks :P

  • @OfficiaBlackInfamous They aren't really shy eaters, If you put food in and they are hungry they will eat. Fish in general are opportunistic and can actually go a long time before needing to eat but they usually eat food any chance they get since its programmed biologically that they should eat now cause they might not find food later. What is it your referring to that your shark does the same thing?

  • @CallMeTonyG Ok thanks, and yea my bala eats now. mostly at night and i was just referring that my bala just sits around and doesn't eat. But its all good now :P

  • i have that same barrel docoration!

  • @silverheart105 I actually suggest taking it out if the fish are getting kinda big cause one of my balas got scared about 3 weeks ago and got himself stuck in that barrel. I have one of the barrels on each end and it took me over 20 minutes to get him out without hurting him. He did however manage to rub a bunch of scales off luckily hes pulled through the damage and healed well.

  • @CallMeTonyG well, first of all, its in a place where only my bgk and peacock eel can get to it, and second i cant take it out because its my bgk's favorite hiding place.

  • You're lucky they eat. Mine just swim around in a corner all day, -_- for 7 months now.

  • @An3ggPlant1 mine like to stay in the corner I filmed this video in, but they will move around some, but they school and rest in that right corner

  • bala sharks are boring ibought some and for a week i brought them back they are fucking boring its all about the SILVER TIPPED SHARK hell ya

  • @fitbikerider459 lol to each their own, mine are really active when I go into my room or turn light on they zoom around the tank and jump assuming its feeding time and hang by the top.

  • @CallMeTonyG mine go crazy even when i dont feed them. at night they jump and when i feed them they splash their tails on top of the water and make a huge splash. and its a pain in the ass putting decorations in the tank becuase i heard their whiskers are poisnous. is that true?

  • @fitbikerider459 No Ive never heard of that , about them having poison. Feeding can become a hassle when they are jumping though my suggestion is put up a scene backround or paper over front of tank so they cant see you approaching the tank. When mine see me approach the tank they jump and swim fast back and forth. I actually put a mirror infront of the tank so they only see the tank backround and themselves and seems to work.

  • @CallMeTonyG im talking about the silver tipped sharks (columbian sharks) not bala do the silver tipped(colmbian) sharks whiskers poisnous

  • HOW FAST DO BALA SHARKS GROW AND DO THEY EAT LIKE ROSY RED MINNOWS?

  • @BiiGPAPASMURF They aren't really fast growers I would say first year they will get about a inch or so larger then when you get them. They get decently bigger in their second and third year.A 3 year old in a good size tank could be about 8-9 inches. Bala sharks are minnows, they will eat anything that will fit in their mouths. Larger balas will eat smaller fish if they get hungry and they eat dying fish in my experience remove dying fish asap to prevent spread of disease.

  • what is a good size tank for those

  • @JosephisFishin There is no exact formula to determine what size you need for fish and everyone has their own opinions. My tank is a 55 gallon long and my fish do well I would say get at least a 55 or larger a course larger the better since balas are said to reach around a foot in home aquariums. I have noticed as they get older they calm down and just like to cruise around the tank so a huge tank doesn't seem necessary to me.

  • @CallMeTonyG thanks im thinking about getting a couple

  • i think bala sharks are very interesting fish good vid:)

  • are those fighting fish pellets?

  • @jetmea No Fighting fish or betta fish pellets are 1/3rd the size. All though bala sharks are omnivores and will eat anything that fits in their mouths so they could eat those pellets aswell.

  • what r u feeding them, and what size tank iz tht

  • @skaterg807 Currently I feed them regular fish flakes and small fish pellets but they really have taken a liking to the fish pellets alot more as they have grown. My tank is 55 gallon Long. Its hard to tell since I was filming from the right side.
