  • LOVE THE WHO! Got a mad The Who band shirt today! (=

  • man I can't believe this is just one year away from that AWFUL album quatriphonia...

    Worse album ever

  • My favorite era for The Who. They were truly untouchable at this stage.

  • i used to listen to this song back when your mom and dad were virgins

  • how does Roger play that thing @ the beginning!!!! i have one but i hurt myself trying 2 learn 2 use it!! if u know how send me a message! luv the who forever!

    ~~~~~~~~~~YAMMY~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • best song they ever recorded
  • cool
  • Great Band Great Song!!
  • I just watched the rolling stones rnr circus,,,the who did some crazy song i've never heard,,fun stuff
  • it's called 'a quick one (while he's away)' and can be found on their second album of the same name. but you've just seen / heard the best version of it. although there's also a good one on the 'live at leeds' reissue.
  • the song was called a quick one while he's away
  • amazing. I absolutely love The Who. Rock just isnt rock like it used to be back in the 70's. AMEN!
  • Join in joy, enjoy together, with within the band!
    (This video is so much wonderful fun.)
  • It's hard to fathom how incredibly amazing The Who is.
  • one of the best bands to come out of england!!!
  • rock of the highest degree - long live rock
  • at 3:07 u can see a rare smile from john entwhistle aka the ox....how many times have u seen him smile?
  • in all the films ive seen of them
  • Pete Townshend and Roger Waters. Best songwriters. Period. Page/Plant just have a million song with the same theme - love.
  • u cant say that those two were pretty flexible do u even know wut ur talking about kid. also even tho these two are my fav it doesnt mean they are the best. some can say that mcartney/lennon were the best.
  • @SomeOutside that is a comment that you shoulda kept to yourself or dont know Zep too well. Sure there are love songs in most ALL rock. whats "the immigrant song "about---"no quarter"---"battle of evermore"---"dowwn by the seaside"--"out on the tiles"--those are but a few.you must be young or just your average LZ hater.come across alot of LZ haters,--it makes me wonder,sure does.
  • Have a LOVELY BIRTHDAY ROGER! 66 years young!!
  • HAPPY BIRTJDAY ROGER DALTREY , Im sure Keith and John are drinking to you up in heaven :D
  • happy birthday roger ! 66 today !!!
  • happy birthday, Roger.. great great band
    and...
    thanks, Thierry... good idear, especially now, I suppose
  • awesome, thanks~
  • thank you, meow...
    Happy BD Roger join together, again w/happyieness, today, okay?
  • such a cool band, amazing songs too!!!
  • Pete is the greatest writer of power rock tunes.
    Lennon and McCartney write a diffferent kind of tune.
  • That's some mighty fine jawharp/jew harp playing
  • True, I prefer the George Harrison stuff. The best songwriters are Pete Townshend and Page/Plant team.
  • @HousesOfTheHolyV When Plant/Page were not ripping off other blues composers :)
  • Kinda true but they weren't ripping off. Probably most of the songs they used from Dixon and others were taken from other musicians, blues is like that. And they turned it into a whole new song, a masterpiece.
  • Great fucking song~!!! LONG LIVE PETE!!! LONG LIVE THE WHO!!!
  • dont make music like that anymore
  • I cannot get enough of this tune, it rocks.
  • I have played the hell out of this video lately. I must have played it 10 times in the last 2 days as loud as my laptop speakers will go. I bet my dorm neighbors are getting sick of it, but too bad. Rock on!
  • really catchy tune!!! pete towhsend certainly knows how to write a good song
  • greatest songwriter of ALL time.....
  • id say lennon and mc cartney were the greatest songwriters ever, but yeah townshends up there
  • It will always be Pete for me....
  • he is one of my favourites too, along with noel gallagher,
  • Not a huge Beatles fan, but my favorites are written by George Harrison.....While My Guitar Gently Weeps.....Here Comes The Sun....
  • towards the end of the beatles harrison started to write some quality songs, he was always gonna be in the shadow of lennon and mc cartney though.
  • @goldyn12345 Townshend's my favorite songwriter.
  • @777jackpot1 he is one of mine too, along with lennon and mc cartney,noel gallagher and a whole host of others!!!
  • wait, noel gallagher? fag.
  • @777jackpot1 i knew you wouldnt appreciate noel gallaghers superb songwriting skills, you yanks can be a little slow on the uptake!!
  • Ohh, this song sounds really cool and different. I love how there was originality in music in the 60's-90's. Too bad it stopped.
  • @scartissue94 originality in songs was from more like the 60's to the 80's
  • Touché
  • It came back in the 90's with Pearl Jam....Long Live Pete!! Long Live The Who!!!
  • @littlesirenboy i agree--early 90s had a couple good bands,then the bottom fell out
  • quite easily the who are in the top 5 best british bands ever!!! along with the beatles,oasis
  • they are #1 British band
  • i take it they are your favourite band ever?
  • no, I don't have one favorite band but I do think that they are the best English band
  • they are definitely one of my favourites,along with the beatles,oasis,the sex pistols,the jam etc, there are so many!!!
  • Not only the best English.....best band ...PERIOD...doesn't matter where they're from
  • Comment removed
  • Any predictions on which songs at halftime?
  • My Generation, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again. My prediction. Possibly in that order too.
  • @dahuterschuter do you know who will be playing the drums? when i saw them they had zak starkey and he was great.
  • Zak Starkey was on drums for them at the Superbowl halftime show.
  • i want u 2 join together with the band!!!!!!!!
  • wat instrument is daltrey playing in the begining?!?!??!?!
  • Jewish harp or jaw harp.
    They're pretty cool, I'm trying to play the intro with mine right now.
  • @DktPlayer
    Jaw harp, actually. The name "Jew's harp" is said to be a corruption on "jaw harp."
  • "Do you really think I care what you read or what you wear?"
  • The Perfect Song (and Group) .. thank God!
  • I met Roger Daltrey at Brands Hatch back in the 80's talked to me like an old mate. No more to be said ?
  • @JASO180
    Thank you. Probably the best thing about what you said is he talked to you. Not sure there are many examples today of a similar claim.
    Hahah. If there are, I don't want to know about them.
  • my guess for superbowl...who r you, eminence front, long live rock...(join together would be very cool too)
  • @fyourself1 I bet they're gonna play Pinball Wizard too.......
  • love this song!!
  • the super bowl for those who do not know when it is is on. feb 7th at or around 6 o' clock.
  • this was my first exposure to the who. i was 4 years old. they've been my alpha and omega rock band ever since... i'm 41. and I'm One!
  • man why all the rich guys who score the women are the most ugly ones
  • Can't wait for them at the super bowl half time show.
  • @xXSkiDooHighmarkerXx
    What's that suppose to mean?
  • when is the super bowl i dont watch american football but i am a fan of the who.
  • @xXSkiDooHighmarkerXx me 2 man even know my nyg r not playing i will love 2 see them on tv doing a half time show 4 my favorite sport of all fucking time
  • I partied with The Who..November, 1975..The Summit, Houston Tx. I sat, rather stood the whole show, 10 rows center-stage front and could see the sweat coming off Pete, and Moon's Esso Jumpsuit bathed in Jack Daniels whiskey-sweat....awesome show. Me and a friend finagled our way into the after party at the Galleria Hotel and watched Moon dance with about 10 topless babes during the playing of "Squeeze Box"....Entwistle got thrown in jail by Houston cops after starting a fight in the lobby...lol.
  • If that's a true story, you should be proud of yourself! :)
  • @rowdymax1
    Thanks for posting. Great story. I don't doubt its true. I've heard/read lots about these guys off stage antics.  Crazy yes ... Wow!
  • @rowdymax1 Great story!
  • I'd love to hear the original audio that goes with this scene...
  • POWERFUL, engergizing, a masterpiece as are so many of their music. Anyone growing up in this generation is blessed. Peace everyone!
  • What I like about this video, besides the great WHO music, is the mingling by the WHO with the audience (staged as it probably is) ... That really does impress me! Great stuff, in any case. The Who ROCKS!
  • mY favorite song from the WHO!
  • ... and I have joined together with THIS band...
  • @graceerk ARE U SERIOUS? explain explain explain!!
  • hahaha..., of course I´m serious...
    Haven´t you joined yet?
    I mean... i have accepted their invitation... and we all are still together... listening to them, loving them..
    ;)
  • I Am The Lost
  • but good video though nice thinking. cause they play this song live badley in the 70s
  • its just the recording with a video of them live playing
  • Possibly the greatest song of all time, thanks for putting it up
  • so catchy, townshend knows how to write a song
  • The Who - love this band. Powerfull Sound.
  • freakin' love this track- the soundz are awesome, sssssoooo cool! THE WHO ROCK!!!!
    -CAN'T WAIT for Superbowl 2010, BTW ;>)
  • A masterpiece. Thanks for posting! I don't think it will get any better than this. This era was something to cherish.
  • Soo jealous of that entire audience.
  • Much better than any videoclip from MTV era, this is the real clip. I love it.
  • not live, but live
  • This is a masterpiece. Lip sycn'ed but still beautifully filmed and orchestrated. This is one good number!
  • Thank you for commenting. I have some additional info regarding the origins of this song.
    It was actually released as a single - not part of any album. It was one of the songs developed for Lifehouse (just like most of the songs on Who's Next) but it was not included in the original album release. Join Together was later released as part of various Who compilation albums.
    This video is the promo for the song - it is obviously lip synced (and yeah, it is a shame they didn't record live).
  • @SherriannMiller I don't what you see. but those
    are the original members of the who.
  • What??? Do explain.... are they space aliens slowly morphing into international rock stars to control our minds with their intergalactic awesomeness?
  • 2:16
    Hah, Keith dropped his stick x]
  • man, back then they used everything, trombones, harmonicas, what ever the hell Roger is using at the beginning, banjos, flutes, pianos, today nobody uses anything like that, good music is dead.
    R.I.P
    Good Music
    1965 ~ 1984
    You Will Sadly Be Missed
  • check out The Tea Party for a band that uses a lot of different instruments
  • There's still plenty of good music around. Check out the Decemberists, Beulah, New Pornographers, Cold War Kids, Rush is still pumping out awesome tunes. The list goes on. Also don't forget how much terrible music was around during The Who's tenure. I'm tired of hearing people saying how everything used to be better.
  • i fucking love rush never get tired of hereing them
  • Rush stink.
  • screw you they are awsome
  • wut?
  • best band ever fuck everything else no bands ever made this many great songs...beatles are close but really come on!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON AND JOIN TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • If you think about Britain is the domination of Music. The Who is without question is the greatest band from the U.K every follow by Deep Purpel, Zed Leplin, and Bad Finger.
  • Thats pretty bold, what about the Stones?
  • Ahhh Yes The Stones!! The Stones are damm good. I should not of forgotten them.
  • One of the most memorable moments in my life was coming down off of Beacon Hill out of my apt stoned on pot one glorious Saturday afternoon when I turned the corner on Charles St to hear THIS JUST NEWLY RELEASED SONG BLARING OFF THE LOUDSPEAKERS coming from Boston Common. I think I astrally projected or whatever. At the time the Concerts on the Common were staged on the side against the Public Garden there and a crew for some show was setting up and had happily chosen THIS INCREDIBLE SONG.
  • @germurph51
    That's a great memory! This song is a B-side for The Who, a career high for anyone else.
  • okay i see the jaw harp but what in the world is john and pete playing? that cant be a harmonica, that pete is playing.
  • If you listen carefully at :37 - :43 you can hear that Marimba Arpeggiator organ effect that is the same on the intro for Baba O'Riley, but only slower.
  • Oh, I forgot to mention, this not only epic musically, but also lyrically. Well, no shit......Its THE WHO!!!!!!!! ;~)
  • This is an underrated gem!!
  • To the 11 from shawnee mission west! LONG LIVE ROCK
  • Bummer they don't show more of Jon. Miss you Thunderfingers!
  • Pete's keyboard back-tracks are memorizing.....they stick with you for ever.....not just for the moment
    peace
  • Great tune! Love it as much now as I did in the early 70s.
  • nevermind i looked it up if you are wondering too just look up jew harp cause theres alot of names for it
  • Actually, there is 1071 (!) known names for that instrument at the moment. Sounds silly, but the Jews harp (Jaw harp, maultrommel, guimbarde, drombulje) is found as a traditional instrument in almost every country in the world, and it seems that every nation has a little set of names for it.
  • what is the instument called that roger's playing in the beginning
  • Good to see this vid again, one of those instantly likable tunes. So lighthearted compared to the monumental tracks in "Who's Next".
  • Love this song! Keith Moon is cute in this vid they all are. GOTTA LOVE THE WHO!
  • Pure.
  • Hmmm- Join together...majority ... THIRD party...May the peoples of the world REALIZE...we are human...we DO NOT NEED KINGS...QUEENS...to tell us how to live!
  • This only made a brief showing on the charts,but I think this is one of their best and very inventive
  • Well said it is a classic.
  • Brief showing? This was a top twenty hit in the USA and Top Ten in the UK.
  • thank you Lord for the Who - rock is dead - long live
  • beauty anglosagonas
  • I bought the single when it was released. It must have drove my mam and dad mental. I played it over and over and over at full volume.
    The Who eh !
    Saw them Live and worshipped Townshend.
    Long Live Rock !
  • this song makes me want to actually care about the environment, amazing song, and its not a jews harp its a jaw harp
  • Great fucking song!!!! Greatest band EVER!!!!!
  • Jews Harp
  • i think it's played on ARP2600
  • what is the instrument at 0:05??
  • its called a gypsys harp.
  • Jaw Harp.
  • one of the best bass riffs EVER.
  • TOP back on the televison! and you see nower days no vocal singer and a other member of a band between the the audince
  • i will never understand TOTP, you have one of the greatest live bands and you make them mime? No wonder Pete got pissed when they played 5:15 a year later. Great tune tough, especially the version on the Lifehouse demos.
  • Thought i'd see every thing by The Who ever....but not this. Love this song. John actually smiles in this! Keith was the greatest drummer ever (but the worst at "fake drumming" for videos!!) RIP KEITH and JOHN. GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER.! Controlled Chaos at it's finest!
  • i need a bass player for my classic rock band. i need people who ages 12 to 15
  • wasn't that karen astley? the one pete married? if you ever played a jaw harp wrong it could knock a tooth down your throat-- this is rare shrit- i saw the hunched over manager from behind-- not like other gays? SHY?
  • Gangbusters!!!....
  • haha singer looks stoned
  • Poor old Keith up there all on his lonesome.
  • Don't worry, they carry him with them at the end.
  • Is that a giant harmonica that Pete's playing
  • This is what a real rock n roll band looks like!
  • This such a great song by one of the worlds greatest bands. Its To Bad Entwistle is dead The world will never have such a bassist like him he was the greatest. also RIP Keith Moon
  • what an amazing song n band ... nuff said
  • Rock legend! I hope to see the triumphant return of rock n roll!! Rap, pop, junk noise needs to go to the grave!!!!
  • They're not going anywhere.
    They're just dancing on the top of a grassy hill. You know, happy song; happy time.
  • Such a great upbeat song.
    Especially when the BASS Guitar counter melody comes in.
    And the Guitar feedback thingie that plays between 2:21 and 2:34.
    Whenever I hear this one, I always picture a group of 30 or so hippies dancing along the top of a grassy hill dancing slow rhythmic steps to the beat. Kinda like back from the days of Woodstock '69.
    Such a happy song.
  • Where the hell are they going?
  • Yeah where the fuck are they going?
  • Exuberant,joyful intensly happy song.Billy Bragg should hane played something like this at the g20 rather than the hackneyed cliches of One Love.This is full of Love.
  • oo man i love those guys... x) oldshool forever...
  • Man how cool is Keith Moon. He has to be the best drummer in history in my opinion.
  • OMG YES!!!.....I sooo agree with that.....no matter what the band, I always ALWAYS watched the drummer, and he was sooo fabulous to watch!!!....so many drummers just sit back there and keep the beat, but Keith put his whole heart and soul into every beat.....wish he was still here...
  • What are those things called, in the beggining of the video?, because those are so cool.
  • I think those are called angels harps or something like that.
  • its called a jews harp
  • This is Roger at his best!! His voice got so raspy by this time. In a cool way !!
  • Pete looks cool with a beard
