  • I think that Cashs' version bitches all over this but still, this is a bit of a tune. Usually I hate music like this, find it boring, but the lyrics are just so good.

  • Nothing that CASH makes a version is emo!

  • I bought a NIN DVD once. It was red. It was live. It sucked ass...

  • yeh its an emotional song, but it sure as shit aint ur stereotype "emo", listen to jonny cashs version, saddest song iv ever heard

  • Emo music is dead. Emo was around during the 80's. It was the "downfall" of punk music.

  • nine inch nails is not emo, come on..

  • I never said they were. Emo isnt a type of music anymore.

  • @HomeExplosion

EMO are you a moron? NIN is Industrial! Not emo crap. Trent talks about real life, not some crap about how life sucks cause his dad didn't buy him a bike when he was 5 boohoohoo. Learn something about the music genre's you are talking about seriously!

  • You people really have nothing better to do than sit around and talk about a dead man. Ok look. Trent let johnny sing the song. Hince he had respect for him. He said he liked it enough said. Stop trying to talk for him. Trent is an amazing artist, after all he created this. But johnny suits the song better.

  • No cover song is as good as the original...I don't mind Cash's version, but it can never match the original...

  • It seems you have already made up your mind before you listen. A man a little bit wiser than I once said that a mind is like a parachute, it only works if its open.

  • Well I didn't think my statement through...it seems that I forgot that I like Becks' "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" version better than the original by The Korgis...and I prefer the cover version of "Mad World" by Gary Jules over Tears for Fears any day... I guess I am more open minded about covers then I thought...

  • nobody can top johnny cash. all of you against him are stupid. he was an inspirable and powerful artist unlike half the shit nowadays.

  • the decomposing fox is brutal

  • omg, that same fox is used in the open credits of a tv show!! thought it looked familiar....

  • that actually seems familiar to me too. what tv show?

  • true blood

  • thats the one =]

  • Hurt should be sung by Reznor. Not Cash.

  • Love NIN (older days) but Cash version is better.

  • And Trent probably only said Cashs was better, because he felt bad (and probably had a sense) that this was the last bit of country fried shit Ol Johnny boy would croak out.

  • hey dick fuck take ur shit somewhere else Johnny Cash was a great man and u should be luck to be half of what he was. NIN is a good band and i'm sure trent didn't mind Johnny did this song too so go get a dick in ur ass

  • Nice spelling and grammar...You Must be into country music....

  • How the fuck is Nine inch Nails Emo? Holy shit people are stupid. By the way, there is no way Johnny Cash's version is better, he did it when he was like 105, and his shit-kicking voice was burnt out. This song is live, Trent was probably screaming for an hour prior to this (in tune, unlike Cash) This is what it looks like when an artist pours their heart into their craft.

  • wtf there's comments about britney :

    WARNING WARNING WARNING

  • I heard Madonna was going to do a cover of this. The entire video will consist of only still images of dildos.

  • Johnny cashs version is so much better for one because it seems to relate to his life for real. And right after the recording he passed. So it was crazy. I still like this version

  • Yes the Cash version is better (Trent says this himself) but as for being Emo? lyrically maybe. But NIN are certainly not an Emo band.

  • @11ilya1603 this isnt emo...its just a sad song...listen to head like a hole, closer, perfect drug trents far from emo and hes 44 so i dont think hes writing emo music

  • dude shut up, you dont even know what emo means..

  • I was disapointed when I realized that Johnny Cash didn't write this, but his cover is a lot better.

  • What have I become, my sweetest friend?

  • besides i think cash´s version changes one line from WI wear this crown of shit" to "i wear this crown of thorns" im not sure

  • Orig is done by Mr J Cash yeah?

  • Nope Cash covered it.

  • Oh good shit.

I like cash's cover better to be honest.

  • Reznor actually agreed.

  • huh?

  • NIN was the one to write the song. Without him, Johnny Cash wouldn't have sung his version. Give respect where it's due asshole.

  • Your a Fuckin idiot Duperdogan.

  • then don't listen to it, people like this, and if you don't you shouldn't have to try to make people feel less of themselves for liking good music

  • I liked the NIN version but only because I grew up with it. It came out when I was 15 and I'm 30 now.. Then I was shocked to see johnny cash re sing the song back in 2002. I just don't like cah's voice in the video. It irritates me for some odd reason.

  • yeah, his old man´s voice is creepy

  • wow i wonder what its like to have a legend like johnny cash want to play yor song.must be the top of the songwriting world imo, this song is so deep it gives me chills every time i here it

  • Trent Rezor is a musical mastermind, who has changed the way we look at music today, admit it or not. Its lyrics are carefully sowed together, which brings out the most emotions in all of us. This is the most beautiful touching video. Like it or not.

  • 1. johnny cahs may have done a cover but it was WAY better, i know there goal was to make this song sad, but dude going this slow litterally made me go to sleep... 2 brittany spears wrote her own music back in teh day, these days she has a group of people who write her stuff, and choreographer... if it wasnt for the fact that she has to make apperences she wouldnt need to wake up...

  • How the fuck did this comments section get on Britney fucking Spears????

  • everybody, lets face it. britni isnt as good as she was back then. wasnt she like 12 when this song came out? i dont think that a kid would be able to write a song like this. and yes, johhny cash asked trent reznor if he could cover the song. this version is darker then the johnny cash cover.

  • Fuck! I havent seen this video in 10 years. I took some crazy acid and my friend bought a NIN video and this video was on it. Needless to say... I flipped my shit. The next 5 hours I thought I was in hell. LOL

  • Johnny cash's version is better

  • simplemente excelente!!! gracias x subirlo

  • lol i actually received an answer to my comment for britney spears lol WHO THE FUCK could possibly believe that it was serious hahah, wtf some ppl just want to show how much they know about stuff... nice :D

  • i prefure the cash verson of this song u can feal the power behind it

  • britini can go fuck herself. hitler was amazing. !!!!! and this song was amazing in the day! get a fuckin life and fuck off and listen to this amazing music by trent reznor, who originally wrote the fuckin song you fuck bag

  • Just a little man who thinks that acting like a nazi makes him cool. I saw two of these on the street in Amsterdam the other day... all fucking full of themselves.

A life of hatred will bring you a lot of pain, son.

  • on the other hand at least he's not cruel as you

  • Both the NIN original, Johnny Cash's cover are awesome. Sevendust also does a badass cover of it, but they miscredit the original to Johnny Cash. In any respect, every version of this song is great.

  • both great versions. johnnys feels deeper though.

  • you know what. i am one of trent reznors friends. he wrote this song, and johnny cash asked if he could do a cover. trent looked up to johnny, and he let johnny cover the song. end of story

  • I am one of britneys friends! She wrote this song you liar!

  • it doesnt really matter who wrote this song. johhny cash did it better /the end.

  • i think you lot must be american your so fucking stupid kermit the frog wrote this dull boreing song

  • britney spears wrote this song, sure about it... 1st album...

the best... pff its okay cash didn't make it this time NIN did it tho :D

  • you're fucking crazy...Trent Reznor wrote this, end of story. for one, though I love her, Britney Spears doesn't even write her own songs. and she did NOT write this song. sorry.

  • Hahahahah she definitely does not write her own songs. I love Britney, but she does not.

  • no, she really didn't. Britney HELPED write SOME of her songs, that's it. don't believe me? go look at her wiki, click on discography, look at the writers. you'll feel very silly. =]

  • Liar, Britney is the best and only artist that write her own lyrics and music! You are a deceiver that slanders an innocent girl with no respect for human life. People like you are the people who gave Hitler the power in Germany, who helped Lenin to power in Russia, etc.

You need to repent before the lord and apologise to Britney!

  • Do you think the war in Iraq is funny?

  • of course not. what on earth does war have to do with Britney writing her own songs? if you were a real Britney fan you would be smart enough to know that she doesn't.

  • The war In Iraq was a joke . That doesn't make it funny though .

  • You are one sick little puppy. I really hope you're just a kid who just needs to make up their mind in due time.

  • Actually, I have met one of the people that helps write the lyrics for her songs...

  • HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GO DIE

  • yeah im not really a neo-naz, i just wanted to see how stupid i coud make you look.

  • You are an undercover nazi!

    Britney spears is the best!

  • Oh, she services them all right...

  • lol, i hope you're joking. if not, wtf's your problem? some people who come on videos to diss bands i agree with because they have good points, others i just think are idiots, but this is officially the most retarded statement i've ever read. why the FUCK are you talking about britney spears on a nin video? someone else writes her lyrics, her music and i bet she has a choregrapher, she also had a mental breakdown and showed the world her vag like 10 times. she's ab idiot. fuck off.

  • NIN are good and I like them, but that has nothing to do with the fact that Britney makes their music. I think she was involved in the production of the "perfect drg" video also...

  • uhm if you go on wikipedia it'll say who wrote the lyrics to her songs. also, she can't play any instruments so i don't see how she could write the music to her songs. she wasn't involved in the perfect drug, you're just fucked. go on a britney spears video to talk about this.

  • Only a nazi disregard the greatness of britney spears!

  • Comment removed

  • It has been done!

  • Haha "fuerer" Irony sucks eh?

  • brittney spears is a loser

  • Wasn't this song written by Britney Spears!? :O

Goddamnit fags, stop whining over NIN or Cash. Trent (NIN) wrote it, Cash covered it, end of story.

  • Johnny Cash wrote this song stupid.

  • ""Hurt" is a song written by Trent Reznor, first released on Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album The Downward Spiral. In 2002, "Hurt" was covered by Johnny Cash to critical acclaim; it was one of Cash's final hit releases before his death."

    Say what?

  • no

    johnny cash wrote the song

  • im sry they make this song sound like shit johnny cash did it better then anyone idc what u homos think

  • johnny cash sings it best.

  • if god wrote a song, it would have been this.

  • so they wrote it but preformed it?

  • FAIL. Written by Trent Reznor in 1994.

  • Haha Beautiful.

  • falloutfags first NIN is waaaaaayyy much better than those fags 2 NIN has been around a loong time before falloutfags 3 this song was writen originally by trent no thos fag emo bastards

  • Hahaha :')

  • Johnny Cash could play Redneck by Lamb of God and make it an instant classic.

  • that would be interesting

  • That sounds kinda stereotyping? JKJK:P

  • NIN wrote the song and Cash covered, the lyrics do mean more coming from Cash because of the way his life was, he was able to put more emotion into it. But the amazing song came from Trent Reznor.

  • NIN wrote this song!

  • You are so incredibly wrong.

  • Get your facts right you retarded dicksqueezer. NIN released Hurt in 1994 and Cash COVERED it in 2002 dumbass.

  • Ur gay and dont know what your talkin about unless cash died before 1994 then you might be right but oh wait he didnt so that means you are wrong.

  • wow you are oblivious to anything true lol NIN wrote this Cash covered it (damn good job might i add) end of story chief

  • Happens quite often with a lot of songs. People think NIN wrote Dead Souls (Joy Division)

  • I know what you mean

  • lol

  • I like this Version and Johnny cash's in different ways, This version is more eerie and dark while the other gives a better sense of emotion.

  • well said my friend.

  • sorry, did not like it.

  • Treznor made it a hit, Cash made it a classic plain and simple. There's no school like the old school and Johnny Cash is the fucking head master.

  • big fan of both. imo the message i got from both versions is yeah both have schit happening in their lives, but i think its about when both sold their souls to the devil.

  • vocals too overwrought

  • Im a fan of nine inch but few people can cover a song & do it better then the original but John did it...if any one gets a chance look at man you love to hate video by tattoo billy.

  • Fuck off obsessive Johnny Cash fans

I will not lie, I like Cash's works, easily the best i his genre. But when you come over to Nine inch Nails orginal version and say "ZOMG JOHNNY CASHZ VERSION IZ BETAR" you make Johnn Cash spin in his grave because you're making a mockery of one of the man in black's last singles.

I'm not saying all you fans are bad, I'm just saying if you come over here and troll Trent Reznor's masterpiece you probably should have been aborted.

  • Amen!

  • cash says no to abortions

  • who cares wht cash says

  • right

  • there was another verson of it on further down the spiral that i thought was a little better.. but yes very amazing song.. good enough to have jonny steal it!!! lol

  • I wish Trent would sing it a little louder.

  • Someone told me Trent was dead recently, is he just a fucktard or what?

  • dont take herion kids!

  • the song is amazing and I am NOT a NiN fan at all. I was drawn here because I heard JC's version and was filled with the pain of his regrets. Both versions are powerful.. both are filled with emotion!!! Haunting..

  • wicked song. Trent = genius. I got into this band just after kurt died. perfect remedy.

DefinaTELY about heroin though. From my experience.

  • i mean i have watched trent reznors version but the first time i saw jhonny cash's version it made me cry. All credit to trent for writing one of the most amazing songs but i don't know what it is about jhonny cash's but it just makes me feel so much more emotion!!!!!!!!!!1

  • yeah i agree. cash's version is better.

  • bullshit!!!!

  • Oh gosh, I'm inlove...

  • I fully agree with shawdylocks...

great song great artists great performance in any case

  • The fact that people are still debating over which version is better is a testament to the power of each. I think they are both phenomenal in different ways. Johnny's version rips my heart out when he sings, because it's from a lifetime full of regret and he knew the end was nearing. NiN's version is completely different in my mind, because NiN's tells it with different emotion. It's the same song, but two completely different stories are told by the performers as they sing. Incredible.

  • I can't really say which one is better, Trent Reznor said he actually cried after seeing JC's version. Both are good, and it's too hard to compare because they are both from different genres of music. We'll just say this is an amzing song.

  • This song just puts me in such a depressed mood. I mean, I love it, but I hate it.

  • wrong, it is "Iss", it is an irregular verb.

  • People think the JC version has more feeling because they empathize JC for the love and hope he sings with. This version has MUCH more emotion, they're just not sunshine and rainbows so most don't personally feel anything listening. This song is the last mark on the world for the character portrayed on the album. I get chills in my chest listening.

  • Very good point my man.

  • the slideshow in this video was in a dream i had about the end of the world...it creeped the hell out of me when i woke up because i knew i'd recognized it from this music video. this song is brilliant. :D

  • Cash or NIN? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this IS art. Neither version is "better". It's a matter of personal taste and both versions are simply beautiful...

    -Peace-

  • Johnny Cash?are you people serious LMFAO wow ok sad && NIN is mucho better.

  • My friend, please learn to state your opinion more politely, or don't state it.

  • fuck you.. >:I

  • I feel so stupid. I have no clue what the video is about.

  • I understand the song, I just dont get what the hell the video is about.

  • it's kinda gay voice cash is better more sincere

  • fuk u all trent rules

  • Its werid, some days I find this versioon to be better, other times I think Jhonny Cash's version is. Either way, without nine inchnails this song would never be made, so even if you like JOny cash you gotta love NIN

  • totally agree with ya, i think the johnny cash version is more emotional because he`s gone. one of the best songs ever.

  • johnny cash and NIN ftw! peace and love brothers

  • i think no matter where u here it its just an awesome no matter what anyone says

  • Screw u he was the best and he never shot up with anything he just took pills

  • I can't follow the comments too easily, but are you talking about Cash? If you are, he DID shoot up. Part of the reason he wanted to do the song.

  • Great song, but I prefer Sevendust's version. Rock n' Roll !!!

  • trent is a musical genius. thats why cash wanted to cover his song. its not about who sang it better. obviously, this song relates to them in their own way, just like the people who listen to it, and any one who is a Cash or NIN fan can see that.

  • its not about who sings it or who wrote this song, the lyrics are super and cash sings it also really good. its just great no mather what.

  • as good as NIN is johnny cash did a much better cover

  • It's weird enough playing this song live.

But to make a live version the video is really fucking strange.

  • Two great artists experiencing such a parallel of pain and anguish in their lives due to addiction and fame. Two very different but excellent versions of the same pain. I have to appreciate them both and each in their own way of expressing what it meant to them as individuals...but this, the original version, it still, in my opinion, the better of the two...and I am a Cash fan.
