Lovely! It's New Year's Day 2012 and I'm remembering my mum, who is no longer with us. Is your mum a little old lady now? When did you last tell her that you loved her?
This song makes me so sad! It makes me think of my mom and ofcourse Julie Andrews. I mean she too was young once upon a time. A voice she once had and she will probably never have again. It is indeed the sad reality of life. Sorry but this song is a total DOWNER! I wonder if she heard this song recently on her stereo. I wonder all the thoughts that go on inside of her. I hope its more like...haha..funny..ok next SONG! What an amazing voice!
I have found 10 recordings of this including one by Hoagy Carmichael and another by Gracie Fields (not very good - even though she sings the complete version) !
I had just left the new Walmart we have, coming down an unfamiliar street, when I saw an old lady with a cane, who had halted, and put her hand to her forehead!
I stopped and watched her out of my rearview mirror. She had retaken her walk, but did not seem to be making any strides.
I backed up, hoping not to be caught, and was able to turn just as she was about to cross the street!
She was "fine," she said, "just a little old lady passing by, catching everybody's eye!"
She told me about the song in her youth, and so much more... I loved her sense of humor!
"Going to be 80 years old," she said!
Well, after a good long hour talk, I drove her to her apartment, a cozy little place!! It seems I have made a new friend: Emilie is her name, an old Polish Christian (Catholic) lady whom I will be thrilled to meet again! Soon, I hope!
Perhaps your dear mom was like the lady in this sweet song; I know it invokes precious memories of my late mom. How did your mother come to take note of this song since it not well-known? Did she sing it to you? I fell in love with the Mills Brothers' version.

A wonderful video! I really don't believe Julie will ever seem old. She is forever young, a bit different but just "Julie".

Every women should turn out to be a "little old lady" like Julie Andrews. The world would be a much happier - and prettier - place.
