I have Rocky winning this fight, even against the 65-67 Ali. I tend to think in a fight between these two, Ali would have won by TKO, Marciano was vulnerable to getting cut and Ali's speed and style would have been idle to putting a big cut above Rockys eye. If the fight had gone on into the latter rounds I would favour Marciano.

I have Rocky winning this fight, even against the 65-67 Ali. Ali never liked to fight infighters and while he wasn't as good as he had been when he fought Frazier, he would need all his extra speed and skill because Marciano is slightly better in evry category than Frazier. He could hit with both hands had even better stamina, an even better chin, and even more heart. I dont think Rocky would ko Ali though. I have Marciano winning by TKO in 13.

I don't believe Rocky would have beaten Ali, but if you think about it, the closest comparison to Marciano you could make to one of Ali's opponents would be Joe Frazier. Joe beat Ali - knocked him down and was cheated out of the second two fights. Rocky hit harder than Joe, had a stronger chin and more determination. Who knows. Either Ali by decision or Rocky by TKO in a later round.

Ali wasn't even on top of his game. I've watched this fight 10 times and his rythm doesn't even seem right. The way he stood, the way he hit. I guess it was just for the win. The ring was small, you got that right; looks like more like the MMA rings I fight in but they're not even that small either.

How can you compare the way that Ali declined to Rocky's decline when Marciano was retired way longer and let himself go WAY WAY WAY more...

pure fantasy, a computer cannot recreate what would have happen. Ali was 40 - 50 pounds heaver, had about 9 more inch of reach, no contest, Rock would lose, but it would hardly be a fair fight..

@PREZ150 During their peak Ali is just to fast . Ali would work to close an eye with his tremendous reach, remember Buster Douglass…this is how he exposed and out of shape Tyson; with reach! Realistically, when you breakdown the careers of Marciano and Ali, it's Ali's defeats of Liston, Frazier, and Foreman which tilt the balance heavily in his favor. No way Marciano beats Foreman; that’s for sure. On there best night Ali beats Marciano but it’s not a cake walk.

Ali did need the money.When they made the film they came up with a couple different endings one with Ali winning one with Rocky winning.Personally I just can't find any grounds for the Rock beating Ali.Ali faced many bigger hard punchers and essentially was never stopped. in the modern era Ali wins every time stopping Rocky on cuts.But even during the 50s I don't think Rocky ever beats Ali.

Yes, exactly right: Ali badly needed the money, & had the greatest respect for Rocky. Rocky trained for the fight, Ali did not. Rocky didn't need the money..Rocky did it for pride..he knew the USA release would have him win, & therefore participated. Ali knew it didn't mean anything, & allowed the USA release to portray him as losing, as he did it only for the money. Rocky actually threw some real shots, while Ali was just there to get through it & go home.

There's an alternate ending floating around where Marciano gets stopped on cuts in the 13th, which is more like what really would happen, except it would be earlier more like the 4th round. Ali might have given Marciano the "Brian London Treatment" get his head moving like a speed bag and drop him like a sack, 9 pity pats in 4 seconds.
