@sandersonphoto I'm not new to the DIY audio community..........& I've seen some cool gear, but this really stretches the full-ranger to its logical limit. This recording is down-right spooky realistic sounding! You say this horn is 'tuned' to 200 Hz.......do you have any other technical data you can share. I was thinking of using the Tang Band 5" FR with this horn. It seems a straight-forward build..??
No real plans. Just drew up conical horns with mouth dimensions and rapid flare from driver. Could not have made them any bigger or I couldn't have gotten them from the shop to my listening room. :) I've has since sold them, not because they didn't sound good, but I enjoy building and experimenting. As you can see in the video, my room is only so big.
I don't own the speakers anymore. I sold them to a fella in Michigan. As far as I know, he is still enjoying them. Which makes me happy. I enjoy building and experimenting. Can't keep all my creations.
Where on earth did you get the idea of putting big mouths in front of little speakers with an open back? It's brilliant! And as I remember, with an OB design, it doesn't matter what size the driver is, you get the same f3 depending on the baffle, so the bigger the driver, essentially the higher the efficiency.
@sandersonphoto My only question on the front horn is it does it raise efficiency linearly with frequency, (I think it must raise the upper mids). Am I wrong? Is it the "hands behind the ears" effect? Congrats on your being able to sell your creations. I'm interested in your experiments if using Tang Band drivers. They're relatively inexpensive and available wordwide.
@tekoheko i would bet it plays rap horribly due to the low bass bottoming out the subs and since the subs are basically free air. not sure about the small speakers inside that huge horn thing but yea.
Where can I find plans to build a pair of these odd looking - wonderful sounding loud speakers? Also; Are there any plans for a video featuring those double mouth horns in the background? Kudo's to you sir - a truely fine system!
I build speakers and then have to sell them due to space constraints in my listening room. I never shot video of the double horns before selling them. I like open baffles and front horns better now. But for a true single driver, with no "helper" woofer, it is hard to beat them IMHO.
marvelous is the only word i wanna say for these speakers , i m also planing to make open baffle type construction for a 12" bass driver but my dad's tired of me spendin money on diy projects. it feels too good to see people out there and their crave for pure music.
These are much more dynamic, bigger and without the boxy coloration of the back horns I have. They also have the air and decay from the di-pole radiation.

@2ManyNoobs
Open baffles are amazingly open sounding. Put a horn on them and the dynamics are crazy good.
sandersonphoto 5 months ago
@sandersonphoto my only concern with horn on a dipole is that you bring the polar dispersion pattern out of balance..

very nice, is there a plan or dimensions somewhere?, like to duplicate the project.

Open baffles sound amazing. Front horns add efficiency. The 126e doesn't need a tweeter. It works well.

I 've already tested Wilson audio, Avalon, Utopia BE, etc... But I would really like to test stuff like that before I die.
