They had 2 vans and a doctor behind them on the road all the "travel". So many real men do this with a 2.000 dollar bike, a tent and all alone. This is another movie by McGregor, NOT an adventure.
At least 2 frame fractures on McGregor's bike (not to mention the water ingress and surviving the rear-end shunt) and god knows what damage to Boorman's bike. And yet both made it round. Say what you like about KTM vs BMW in terms of overall quality and suitability, but BMW engineers had enough faith to allow the GS's to be used in this project, and it ultimately paid off with one of the greatest adverts a bike maker could have. Reflected by the incredible increase in sales. KTM's loss. Idiots.

If a sponsorship deal was not so important, I guess the boys could have bought their own bikes. It would have been interesting to see them ride their favourite machine. acctually the bmw's are really too heavy for this trip .. something lighter would have gotten them through with a lot more ease.. just looks at the russian bike skipping over all those problem terrains .. why couldnt the heavy stuff like tools be with the support crew?
