  • How could one have Scottish blood running in their veins and not feel a stirring from deep inside whenever the pipes are playing. I'm only quarter Scottish but yet the skin tingles whenever I hear this music.

  • @camoclayton Even not being Scottish, pipes sound make me tremble.

  • awesome!

  • But shure a good Christmas Tune indeed :-)

  • I thourgth that it was only the Union Army who had the Bagpipes ( Men from Cameroun Highlanders in an N.Y. Infantry Regt. ) and not the Confedarate Army....... I see mostly Grey Uniforms in this Video.

  • ...just brilliant...

  • @tharula lass doch mpwh66 in ruhe. juckt keinen. immerhin habe ich es verstehen können. vielleicht das nächste mal etwas länger nachdenken bevor man jemanden denunziert?

  • God Bless You, Beautiful! Thanks for your hard work. Merry Christmas! New Jerusalem comes soon the Star of Bethlehem does. Hail Mary who warns the churches as His angel at this time. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

  • love it

  • I don´t want to understand, why the wonderful instrument must play at so many wars.

I´m a german and i don´t like that, what be in our past. I´m very happy, that this music can also be a part of peace.

  • well done :)

  • I was born, and raised, in South Africa, to a Scottish mother and Estonian father - Have always loved the tune; and the pipes. Thank you for sharing.

  • Excellent.

  • Nice

  • Thank you very much for posting this .... Excellent version ,,,,, from a Scotsman !!!

  • My favorite Christmas Carol and my favorite instrument...made this Christmas Day complete....thank-you.

  • By the way, inamerica55585; War pipes and war drums can be excused from their regular duties long enough to proclaim peace if their masters so choose. Take for example the Christmas truce of 1914.

  • Great job. But I was wondering if some of the pics you used are family photos or just photos you found on the web. Their eyes are so sad and haunting. More than a few little drummer boys were killed in battles I wonder if they knew why they were there.

  • Very good, Merry Christmas

  • Very cool!

  • An Classic

  • I love it! Merry Christmas to everyone :) This is the best drummer boy. The song is so moving, and usually everyone just BS's their way through it without any soul. ...but THIS version on instrumental... perfect :)

  • i play trumpet, and i can play that song

  • I love the bagpipes and this is one of my favorite Christmas songs! it gave me chills. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!

  • I am a lover of the pipes and a good friend of mine from Scotland, aka "Piper" is too.

    An AWESOME version!!

Do you have a CD available of this song?

    Elwood

  • Bagpipes are the instrument of war. It's somehow very fitting to have them play a Christmas carol.

  • @inamerica55585

How can Bagpipes be an instrument of war?

Bagpipes, trumpets, drums, do not kill people...they were not designed for war, but used in wars to communicate and rally troops as with many many things.

Is a spoon an instrument of war since it is used in the standard mess kit and soldeirs used it to eat with?

Was the shoe first designed for war or was it originally made to protect the foot and keep it warm?

A gun, or sword is an instrument of war...not the pipes.

  • @cmsandusky Not an instrument of war like a weapon. An instrument that seems to describe war. To me, when I hear bagpipes, I think of soldiers marching.

  • @inamerica55585

Yeah, I can agree with you there.

Bagpipes remind me of that and funerals...a melancholy, forlorn melody but still pleasant to listen too.

When I was a boy scout in summer camp, somebody somewhere would play the bagpipes every morning at sunrise...it would waft over the hills and forests...hard to describe but wonderful nonetheless!!

I could listen to this song everyday....

  • @cmsandusky You know, when I hear this song, it makes me particularly think of English and Scottish soldiers fighting on the western front on christmas during WW1 against the Germans.

  • @inamerica55585 My friend Wee Andy McGeoch once pointed out to me that the pipe band, for military purposes, is much more practical than a military band. When a few key members of a military band have been taken out by the enemy, the effect on the band is devastating. But a pipe band goes right one playing until there is only one man left. How could any man go to war without the sound of the pipes? said Andy. It was the awsome sound of the pipes that saved Lucknow from siege. .. so they say...

  • @MandyJMaddison for my school english from the 70s your speach sounds like spoken through a bagpipe. sorry, i am born in Germany. But i like this music!!!

  • @MandyJMaddison I like bagpipes a lot - but if you think that men could not go to war without bagpipes we should think about banning them. I don't know whats awsome about the senseless slaughter on the battlefields - this song is about peace, actually if you hadn't noticed. Are you by any chance trigger-happy aka American?

  • @MrRotstift - I agree about War in general - but you surely don't mean those trigger happy Americans that helped to save (read: saved) Britain? Or would you deny that as well? Are you by any chance an ungrateful twit?

  • @57mab Any history? Stalingrad ring a bell? The US came over because that was the best opportunity to get a foothold in Europe, and because they were afraid the Red Army would roll up the nazis all on its own. - The truth is: Contrary to most other decent peoples in this world, Yanks like killing people - its simply your way of doing business, while most others have actually progressed from that stage ;) My advice: Read your first comment again. And then stop celebrating Christmas.

  • @MrRotstift I'd say you are in a pitiful minority w/ your viewpoint. That's fine... stay there.

  • @MrRotstift, Why are you using this as an opportunity to take pot shots at Americans? Wee Andy McGeoch is a Scot, as you might have guessed, and served as a soldier. Members of my family were in Lucknow at the time of the siege, and the sound of those pipes was most welcome. BTW, look at the clips that our piper and drummer has selected. They are all military, I suggest you get Stevethrasher in your sights. Don't bother sniping at me.

  • @cmsandusky - Perfect comment - I'm from the Philippines
