I agree with Norway 1993, Russia 1997. OMG, Omar should have been first <3, Turkey i 2004 had a much better place than they deserved. People, like Tose Proeski or Julia Savicheva were better. Igor Cukrov yes, definitely...one of the greatest, better than ugly and untalented Hadise. Totally disagree with your last one...ESC is not a contest for celebrities like her to enter, a total disappointment for herself and her fans who expected more out of it!
I agree some very underated songs particularly Patricia Kaas for France 2009, Bosnia Herzegovina from the same year, Norway (Alle Mine Tanker) from 1993 and Slovenia (Prisluhni Mi) from 1995 which i thought was a better song than the winner of that year.
Out of those you posted I agree with Sweden 1998, Israel 2008 but the most UNDERRATED is ICELAND 1997!!! I could easily put it in the top 3, if not in No1!
I miss the really innovative, but harshly neglected songs, like Poland 1995, Lithuania 1999 or Macedonia 2002? And of course Poland 1996, the saddest song of all time ..
By the way, the German bore wasn't in 1998, but in 2001 (even if it sounds like being from 1980!)
I agree with you 100% about Israel 08, Norway 08, Bosnia & Herzegovina 09, France 09... either one of these should have won in those years. I'd also add France 04, Macedonia 07, Serbia 04, Slovenia 07, Poland 03 and France 91 to that list -- and yes France 91 should have won by a big margin...
I like the idea, but if your yardstick for what underrated means is "whatever has come lower than it ought to", then I think you've got about a dozen in every contest..! But some of these are good unusual ideas.
So agree about Kali (France 1992), Silje Vige (Norway 1993), Patricia Kaas (France 2009), Athena (Turkey 2004) and Jill Johnson (Sweden 1998). They all were my favourites No1!
Omar Naber, Bebi Dol, 4fun and Koit Toome also should have finished higher.
But totally disagree about some OVERRATED songs: Michelle (Germany 2001), Boaz Mauda (Israel 2008) and Maria Haukaas Stoereng (Norway 2008).
And there isn't a single PORTUGUESE underrated entry in your opinion?? You've got to be kidding! Here are some examples: 1991, 1994, 2008 (the worst robbery of them all)
2001 Germany terrible song like so many others that year 2004 Turkey was what I called the "drunken stage number made to entertain and not really to compete" but hey televoters go for any funny mouse that runs the stage so - I hate the song, 2005 a nice Ronan Keating-ish song but better fit for the UK charts not for Eurovision territory Lithuania 2007 terrible singing! 2008 Israel was OK Norway was kinda cool! 2009 Croatia boring song! Bosnia was a great chorus it has!
Norway 93 (though it wasn't underrated but should have won that year), Slovenia in 95 was a well deserved top 10 song I see nothing underrating in it, Russia in 97 could have scorred better as well as Iceland but Iceland was too ahead of its time back then. I also liked Slovenia and Poland on the other hand was an amazing song. Estonia 98 ONE OF MY many favourites and YES SWEDEN was sooooooooo underrated what a great SONG and SINGER! ESC from 1999 onwards lost meaning for me ...
Totally agree with "Je suis un vrai garçon", "Primadonna", "Zbudi se", "Ale jestem", "Wer Liebe lebt", "Stop", "Hold on, be strong", "Lijepa Tena", and specially "Kärleken är", "Et s'il fallait le faire" and "Bistra voda", the latter two should have been 1st and 2nd of 2009, closely followed by "Mamo" :-)
@Niril89 Maybe I like it it's tender and sweet but had no strengh to compete really against the so many good songs that year ... It lacked charisma towards the eyes and ears of was watching. For me it was fun to learn that "I" in Romenian is the same as "I" in Portuguese LOL That's means "Eu" LOL
That's a really well put together video. Whether I agree with the inclusions or not (and most of them I do), it's just really good to take a trip down memory lane. I'm assuming someone has already picked you up on Germany 1998 actually being 2001, but that's just nitpicking. Thanks for the video.
nice list! But among the slovenian entries for me the most underrated song was from 1998 " Naj bogovi slišijo" - Vili Resnik. That was really a beautiful one and he is a good singer. It was placed somewhere around 20th place.
Totally agree with some of these songs.. Especially Slovenia 1995. My 3rd place, after Norway and Spain. Also Norway 2008, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and France in 2009.
I guess you are Slovenian (three slovenian entries in this video), anyway this video is almost the same i would make, excepr i would change croatia 2009 with Slovakia 2009; greetings from Slovenia
Believe is in my book by far the worst winning song ever. Glad that We(Iceland),Denmark and Sweden didn't bother to throve points to it. Dima sings like a bleating sheep.
Every song i include here, i consider that i should have ranked higher.I think that Norway's entry was well written, quality stuff and loved Mrs.Storeng's confidence on stage. This was surely better than let's say Armenia ( 4th-really annoying cheap dance tune ) , Greece( catchy but not top 5 material ) or even Russia's winner which was corny and overdramatic ,plus Billan was really struggling with his english up there .
You forgot the most CRIMINALLY underrated entry of them all Dincolo de nori that got only 21th place out of 25 with 14 points. That's a crime. And just to point it out then I find the France entry 94 to be actually overrated a lot. But I'm very glad to see two of our very best entries Nætur and Minn hinsti dans on this list :)
Believe is in my book by far the worst winning song ever. Glad that We(Iceland),Denmark and Sweden didn't bother to throve points to it. Dima sings like a bleating sheep.
@greeko25 Billan struggles with his english (like everybody from eastern coutries who still are convinced they make a great image of themselves by singing in dreadful english ) he also struggles to convince "yes I am the best always the best" and he struggles with his "look at me I almost naked I need to win I want to win", He had a personality issue that night ... and saddly he won. I hope we will learn to be more humbles as any true singer needs to be.

@SaNBeanz You should try to listen Eurovision before 2006 ... actually before 1999 when Eurovision wasn't just a contest with too many dancy silly stage song with not very talented singer really singing that well ... I understand that for the "common people" who pay to vote it's fun to have these songs these days... but nothing can replace the seriousness of real song and trully professional singers on stage than before 99. ESC now it's almost like any MTV show ... too commerical.
I wrote that ages ago, now I have watched most ESC songs since then I know exactly what I like and dislike, just piss off with you're so called 'adult' tastes. You don't know what you're on about, let me guess, you're gonna write a long comment telling me I'm wrong, whatever.
@SaNBeanz Why would I do that? Aren't these your personal tastes? Since when a personal taste is a wrong thing? It's incredible how people here take views that don't necessarly match theirs and feel personally hurt of angered at those. Listen, respect for what you like - my biggest critic is against the show today and its musical choices and how people made "bad taste" become the new "great stuff"!
