3M was an innovator in this market. Their videotapes were the best, period. The audio cassettes were good but didn't have the marketing behind them like Maxell and TDK.
For audio cassettes I found the better superferric/ferrichrome/chrome and metal tapes in the Scotch and sister 3m brands were the best to use, the standard ferrics were a bit flat on frequency response with little low frequency kick and flattish treble response(not really what you'd expect from a basic type I normal bias blank audio cassette).
It was the early Philips "VCR" format. The two reels of tape sat one on top of the other in the cassette rather than side by side. As a result the cassettes were almost square.
This was among the first television commercials broadcast in Australia with Stereophonic sound, thanks to the collaboration of TV and radio broadcasters in a 'simulcast' exercise. Who else experienced these 'simulcast's' ?
watch?v=UEs0efDEw7Q&NR=1 to see a VCR that plays square cassettes.

What is the square format? It says "LVC100", and "videocassette", so it can't be reel-to-reel.

@0:17 and again @0:38 - What is that format in the last (3rd) cassette? Not U-Matic because they are rectangular like VHS & Beta.

Could be 'N1500'. See Wikipedia article on Videocassette recorders > Philips "VCR" format. That could be it.
