Steve Perry is a freakin god. Journey has SUCKED ever since he "left".This band never has been and NEVER will be the same without Perry as the front man....Thanks 4 posting this vid!...STEVE PERRY NOW AND 4EVER...
All kids today should listen to this to learn how you build a and structure a song with all the instruments matching to an awesome voice,in this case,THE BEST !!!
Those songs are sung each and every time with a TRUE passion. Imagine everything you do giving everything you have to give nearly every night. I can't believe he didn't just drop dead on the stage one night God forbid. He truly gave it all he had and we all benefited greatly from it. I knwow it took a toll. I salute the greatest VOICE in music
steve wasn't the ego, neal seemed to want to run the show, since rollie left . I met the guys at NAMM in 87. my band was lucky, all of journey were great, except neal, what a d..k the new kid is good (when he's not flat or sharp) but he's no steve perry. guy's remember kenny,.. miss ya steve. c.s. frm."legend"
I remember reading somewhere about the band not even wanting Steve Perry at 1st and they wanted to go with somebody else? What could have been a mistake turned the tide and made them all millionaires!!
One of the 3 best rock and roll voices ever. Too bad his ego got in the way. I still enjoy Journey with their new singer and all, but miss Perry. Neal still has it together as he did then. Just play r&r.
Post more from this concert, this and the recently unearth footage of the REAL Journey from 1976 are probably the rarest footage of the band out there today. Unless the hoarders got better goods :)
Haven't yet heard any of the new songs that Arnel sings on their Revelation album. The problem is, when he sings 'steve's' songs-it is like watching a very good Elvis impersonator-you want to have the original back so badly that you'll suspend disbelief to 'pretend' that it is Steve-which is really unfortunate because AP is VERY talented in his own right. A shame that he couldn't break in as himself, not as Schon's desperate replacement for Steve. I just can't get past that it ISN'T Steve!
Steve is AWESOME. Please don't compare Steve, who quit Journey when he was 37 (for all practical purposes), with Arnel who struggled for 27 years to get noticed and finally joined the band when he was 40. They are completely different but they are both AWESOME. It is like comparing diamonds with diamonds.
I remeber in 79-80 going to see Journey. We paid $30.00 a piece for 8th row floor, center. These we bought from scalpers, ha ha. Times they are a changin.
WOW -GREAT VIDEO FIND!!! Thanks for posting :) STEVE'S BACK IN THE STUDIO -- MAYBE WE WON'T HAVE TO WAIT LONG FOR "THE VOICE" TO BE BACK ON STAGE !!!! ROCK ON PERRY !!
I have been a Journey lover, especially Steve Perry, from way back! I think I was maybe 9 when I first heard Journey (not w/Steve, but gorgeous nontheless). This is one of my all time favorite songs. It showcases Steve's talent as well as every other band member. They are in rare form. I love it!!!! T Thank you for this glimpse. I was too young to be there, but what a show it must have been! Thank you from "T" from Portland, OR.

This is what youtube is all about ! look at this old rock history. Neil, What an incredible guitar player . He played that solo note for note just like the album. Thanks so much for posting this gem perryfan4ever.
Thanks so much for this hard-to-find peek at Steve Perry. I first saw him & Journey during the '81 Rolling Stones concerts. He just seemed to JUMP offstage and GRAB the audiences by the throats. Such TALENT: both his voice and as a performer.
I never heard this song before I watched this clip, and I must say I truely LOVE it! How much feeling Steve puts into the song and his beautiful phrasing. Everyone who had a hand in writing this song did an excellent job. Fleischman also did a great job writing "Wheel in the sky".
Steve has the most incredible voice of anyone I have ever heard. He is such a true talent. I never get tired of listening to Steve sing, his voice can put a smile on my face regardless of the type of day. I also wish I could have seen Steve Perry perform ANYTHING live at least once.
Steve Perry is a LEGEND! I can't wait until the new cd which I've heard is to be out sometime early 09. Info was found at other Perry song commment post.
I appreciate the spread that you do about our idol, Steve Perry. But I think that it should be more nice from you to put his name instead of the site name. We have to spread Steve clips, not our name or the site name. Forgive my sincerity.
Could someone please talk him into rejoining the group. Who pissed him off? The new guy sounds ok, but not like steve. This is awesome. My husbands favorite song by them.
Hi iowa58, I hope you don't mind me responding to your comment, but I really think this is the subject Steve Perry hates is when and if he will rejoin Journey. This is my favorite Journey tune too. Your husband has excellent taste. If you haven't read it by now, please go read the article online at GQ Magazine called "Foolish, Foolish Throat" by Steve Perry. You'll love it. It's an excellent interview with Steve. Take care.
now this is the 4th lead singer to face the awesome journey..i grew up with this most awesome group!! but, without steven perry its just not the same journey to me..but, im going anyhow 31jul08 in wpb, fl..along with cheap trick and heart.. I totally love journey and all the other bands..Steven dont know where u r my friend but, good luck!! u were the best of Journey and always will b!!!!just like VH dlr back tks god!!!!
I've looked beyond the whole Steve Perry thing for quite a while now. I love Steve A and now with Arnel, and the new CD Arnel brings a modern sound to the band with due credit to Cain and Schon for their music writing. I think the new CD rocks and there's no doubting that they have a new sound, which I like very much, just I liked "Generations" I'll alway's have an affection for Steve P but I"m over it now, unless he wants to come back and include most of his own songs.
Journey has had 6 lead singers: Gregg Rollie, Robert Fleischman, Steve Perry, Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto and now Arnel Pineda. Pineda is 40+ but still does a good Perry impression - for now. Neal tours relentlessly to make the alimony $ for his 4 wives. It is doubtful that Arnel will be able to keep-up with Neal's demanding scheduling, as Arnel, too, will eventually become vocally shredded like the other Perry replacements...
Deen Castronovo while never named as "lead singer" did sing - quite capably- lead vocals on a number of songs in live performances during both SA's and JSS's tenures.
Man, oh, man! Steve Perry in his prime...I dare anybody to bring on anybody...Nobody could touch him...What a miraculous voice this is...Absolutely the best!!!
Perry used to hit those soaring notes so smoothly and effortlessly. Every night was truly an inspriring experience. Those were some special days. I miss them. : (
OMG. I love this song! I love how he sings it with such passion! He actually captures the sound of the wind in those amazing vocal cords he has! What a man! What a shame that JRNY is no longer JRNY! Weel, at least not MY JNRY!
brings back so many great memories, seeing them in the T Bowlback in the early 80s in Orlando, coming home, singing this in my living room and trying to hit every note. Steve is the man, the best voice, biggest range, the crooner of R&R. this song is so great, going from such poetic softness, to hard driving G, then back again. Can't get enough, thank you Perryfan4ever, great find!
I didnt think it was possible for me to ever fall for this mans voice any more than I already have. This has just pushed me past that point. The way he can hold those notes its just phenominal. He is such a fantastic performer and the best eye candy there is.
Totally agree with you. I luv seeing this Old footage of them live. the more I see, I admire SP even more for his talent and that VOICE the clarity, range, emotion, passion, and yes he is eye candy... ;o)(sigh)

Deen Castronovo while never named as "lead singer" did sing - quite capably- lead vocals on a number of songs in live performances during both SA's and JSS's tenures.

Perry used to hit those soaring notes so smoothly and effortlessly. Every night was truly an inspriring experience. Those were some special days. I miss them. : (

Where did Greg Rolie's organ solo go?
In any case, a classic song by a classic band.

brings back so many great memories, seeing them in the T Bowlback in the early 80s in Orlando, coming home, singing this in my living room and trying to hit every note.
