@hippy4mary There is a game that is actually developed by guys that wanted to bring back a "UO like" game. Its called Darkfall Online. PVP anywhere in game, no safe zones, full loot. Search in Youtube for "what is darkfall online" and watch the first video that pops up. Check it out. There is a 2 week free trial. I've been playing it for about a month now and it is by far the best MMO I have ever played (aside from early UO).

Graphics are only a small portion of a game, the story line character play game play make up the rest. If you only play a game to rush through it online games are a waste of time for you.
When reading the background and actually realizing how close this game was to be being released (just that the EA management changed and the new management made this decision), this really makes you even more sad.
Regarding the techno/fantasy mix you should read the lore and then it all makes sense and kind of comes together (not sure if that is still available).

I remember playing UO when this game was being made and being SO excited about it. Believe it or not, this was a gorgeous game for its time. Times have changed, though, and WoW's success has made most western developers afraid to risk the resources on a fresh concept. I'm formerly a UO addict who played ALOT for about 5 or 6 years and I thought the game was most appealing in the 2d format. When the 3d look came in, I didn't really like it - though the gameplay additions were cool. Still, when I see this, I think of some cheesy PS2 RPG and cringe. I also imagine the lag in busy parts of the game using these graphics (tho I cud be wrong) - I'm not confident this will be as good as the original, 2D version was/is

I just started on the UO Second Age free server uosecondage(dot)com. Completely free and they even have the whole game for download if you don't have your discs anymore. Accurate 1999 UO gameplay and over 500 online.

Thank God this game was never released, but aside from that, UO Lives! Come check out Retribution, it's a freeshard that's exactly like old skool UO, circa 1999-2003. It's awsome, well ran, and lots of players already. I play everyday. Just google uo retribution and follow the steps to get it. It's free!

I still play UO ans I started the first day it hit the shelves back in 97. I still love it. Never been into PvP, have allways been the role player and dungeon crawler (not to say I have not done and learned it). I still think it was the best gaming creation ever. I also still play PlanetSide. It is such a different game that I also Love.

This was too much of a departure of the Ultima series which is very swords and sorcery, propper fantasy.

Yeah, but mmorpg and animations are different story. Animation can make more lag for a large scale combat in a sandbox world. To be able to make a 100 vs 100 in a sandbox game, the animation have to stay poor. I prefer to do large scale combat myself.

I still play UO ans I started the first day it hit the shelves back in 97. I still love it. Never been into PvP, have allways been the role player and dungeon crawler (not to say I have not done and learned it). I still think it was the best gaming creation ever. I also still play PlanetSide. It is such a different game that I also Love.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the same type of innovation and creativity in the gaming industry as I did in the 90's. Seems like all I see are a lot of fps's anymore. Gaming companies just don't take risks like they used to. They either dumb them down for the masses or they rehash some same shooter games over and over again.

guys dont be angry, this acually is out, its just made by different people who, like you were disappointed at ultima 2 online never comming out. so they made a game that is very similar, it is called DarkFall Online, and its very good now that they have the burning seas patch out. Give it a try, if you would have enjoyed this you will love darkfall online

This was too much of a departure of the Ultima series which is very swords and sorcery, propper fantasy.
The steampunk look was awesome, and would have been great as another title...and I hope to see something like this someday. Its like UO meets heavy metal animated.

This is why animations are important.

Yeah, but mmorpg and animations are different story. Animation can make more lag for a large scale combat in a sandbox world. To be able to make a 100 vs 100 in a sandbox game, the animation have to stay poor. I prefer to do large scale combat myself.

Game are more complexe you fucktard. You cant make a game with the best animation and graphics ever in a sandbox game like the old UO use to be. Sandbox i mean no instance. 1 world with over 3000 players.
Im looking for mortal online myself. Just like uo, but realistic. Good animation and graphic, but not perfect because if it was perfect, we would not be able to do large scale combat in one world where other players can do other stuff then fighting.
