We have a large pool of workers coming from China and India.
Most of the manual jobs are done by Indian workers.
Another example was in 2010 when India need to rush to complete the New Terminal Building at the New Delhi Airport, they had to engage skilled Chinese workers.

Most of the stuff needed to make this world a better place were developed and invented in the western world, ( USA, UK, Europe) and Japan to a extent. So definitely within your lifetime will you see the US drop to no 3. Citi Group predictions are vague. I do not see how India could overtake China economy by 2050 when China annual growth rate is still ahead of India.
On the contrary, I see the gap is widening as China is still surging ahead with almost double digit growth.
For India to catch up and overtake China, she has to double up her infra structure and be most aggresive in attracting foreign investment.
Another area where India lost to China is the speed of getting things done.

@abh3092 I am speaking thru observation. We have close to a million foreign workers working in Singapore and quite a large proportion of them are working in the Construction and Ship building/Repair Industry.
We have a large pool of workers coming from China and India.
Most of the manual jobs are done by Indian workers.
Another example was in 2010 when India need to rush to complete the New Terminal Building at the New Delhi Airport, they had to engage skilled Chinese workers.

And there was no hurry in completing the new terminal building as it was completed on time.The chinese workers were used where "specific skills regarding glasses were required" and not general case.

I dont know why you think Chinese workers are skilled, 20 % at most, the rest of them are drones, same story with Chinese goods, 20 % are what I would consider truly world class, the rest is workable or just plain garbage. Actually, this policy only applies to people living in the cities and people of minority race and farmers are allow to have more children.

I know that isn't a lot, but since their so high to begin with, they will without a doubt be in the top 5. India and China will never be a superpower it takes more than cheap manufacturing and outsourcing to be a world leader. Most of the stuff needed to make this world a better place were developed and invented in the western world, ( USA, UK, Europe) and Japan to a extent. India and China does not yet have the knowledge for sufficient R&D, most experts and skilled workers leave India and china for the US. they both will be very major powers in the world, But the US will always be #1 ALWAYS.

So definitely within your lifetime will you see the US drop to no 3. The US will still be no 1 because it will have a smaller population which will be richer than the Chinese or the Indians, and that might not change in your lifetime, but regarding over taking the US economy, thats already well in the process of happening.
