  • Old testament laws werefulfilled by jesus, and no longer valid, other than the 10 commandments.

  • Christians are not beholden to the law.

Galatians 3:19 - Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred (that’s Jesus btw) had come.

    See also Romans 5:20-21.

Please brother, make a careful study of Galatians 2&3 in which Paul describes the “judiazers”, Christian teachers who advocated that Christians follow Old Testament law. Paul’s conclusion: Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law Gal 3:13

  • @Countercommie "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

  • @joecane6340 Right. The law remains. Were we to obey it, we would be righteous, but we cannot because we are too sinful! The true purpose of the law is to punctuate our sinfulness."Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin". (Romans 3:20) Only when we realize our sin, do we understand our need for a savior. By faith in Him are we justified. See the "faith chapter of the bible" Hebrews 11. It's ALL about faith!

  • @Countercommie If old testament law is still valid, why are we not still stoning people then?

It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17)

  • @joecane6340 Huh? Are you a Christian who condones stoning or something? Proper explanation is impossible with a 500 character limit, but the law still stands as a means of righteousness before God. If a man is sinless (as in…he keeps the whole law) then he may stand before God. The bad news? Man is not willing or able to do this. Jesus (who was willing and able) did this on behalf of those who would believe. He gives his faith and righteousness to those who come to him. Have you come?

  • @joecane6340 As for the societal laws of Israel: understand that Israel (entire nation) is a symbol of a single Christian. God chose them, redeemed em from bondage, baptized em, walked with em through the desert, cloud by day, fire by night, brought em into the promised land–what He does with Christians. (1Cor10) God purifies Israel during their walk. Stoning is symbolic of purifying the self of sin. Achan is a perfect example of a sinful member of Israel. How else to interpret Psalm 101:8?

  • @Countercommie What about this verse? “He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.” (Matthew 15:4-7)

  • @joecane6340 What is your point? Back when I was an atheist, I used to get a kick out of heckling Christians. Is that your game? Man took the law and made it perverse-They turned it into the tradition of men. They did this so completely that Jesus had to tell them “Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. (Mark 7:9) We can see plenty of this in the church today, can't we? Man will choose to merely “obey the rules” rather than truly “get right with God”.

  • @Countercommie No. I'm sorry if it came across that way. I'm just trying to understand and on a search for the truth. I personally believe in God but I'm having a hard time with certain beliefs and traditions that come along with it. For instance, creationists still believe the Earth is less than 10k years old yet we now know for a fact that it's much older. I've been told that if I don't believe all of the creation story that I can't believe in the rest of the Bible.

  • @joecane6340 “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”(Mark 9:24) Come as you are. Believe what parts you can for now, but be prepared to be convinced! I was an atheist for twenty years. I considered Christians brainwashed. I came to faith but held onto evolution, doubted the flood, etc. After a few years with the Lord, I can say that He proves the bible in the lives of believers, verse by verse. Lord willing, you’ll grow to believe it more and more too, though the world will try to stop you.

  • @Countercommie Actually I am a believer. Was raised in a Christian family too. It's just that some things don't make same to me. For example, the creation story. We now know the Earth is NOT less than 10k years old. I still believe that God is the creator. I just think that ancient man described creation with their limited intellect and knowledge.

  • @joecane6340 Seriously been there. Only very recently have I come to believe the creation account of the bible. If you can’t buy that yet, that’s okay. Just read the bible every day, even just a little bit, and you'll begin to see truths in it that will dispel doubt at an exponential rate. Don’t try to read the bible cover to cover. Just pick an interesting chunk and take it in. Turns out, my parent’s version of Christianity wasn’t all that biblical, and sadly, that’s not uncommon.

  • @joecane6340 Let us reason: If “ancient man” was unable to accurately describe the Earth’s first week, how was he able to prescribe sanitation practices to Israel four millennia before Louis Pasteur? You get my point… Even in the 1800’s we didn’t understand handwashing, yet it was revealed to Israel in 2000 BC! The bible is not the work of man, but is surely Devine. The serpent wanted Eve to doubt it then, and he wants you to doubt it now!

  • So the idiotic, irrelevant, evil laws in the Old Testament apply and several contradictory laws in the New Testament also apply? No wonder Christians are so confused and messed up. What a joke!

  • Look at you using annotations and everything!

  • @ThatsKayle15 I had to due to staying focused on the cam and reading the passage out of the bible.....Plus the poor English that is in the bible it's self
