تا آنجا که من از یکی از اقوامش پرسیدم استاد شهناز درتمام دوران زندگیش نزده هیچ کس تعلیم ندیده، استاد شهنازبطور ذاتی در این هنر نابغه هستند درست ماننده یک نقاش چیره دست. ایشان حتا هنوز که هنوز است نت را بلد نیستند و نمیتواند آن را بخواند.

من هیچ کجا ندیده ام که اشاره ای کرده باشند به شاگردی استاد شهناز پیش استاد صبا، لااقل دی هیچ یک از کتاب های تاریخ موسیقی ایران چنین چیزی نیامده. سبک نوازندگی این دو هم به هیچ وجه به هم شبیه نیست، و دو مکتب متفاوت موسیقی ایرانی را نشان می دهد.
