The best way to get out of Iraq is to leave a small contingent of US Special Forces (less than 20,000) and give money to fund schools, hospitals, and public programs. Soldiers will not win the will of the Iraqis, but education, health, and a better sense of security will. Iraqis want only but to return to Peace. US forces have not helped IRaqis, have not helped the security of Americans, and have created a geopolitical mess that the US will not recover from for many years.
The TRUE Pandoras box that the U.S. has opened will not fully show itself until the Americans leave...... Those of that region know and understand whom the Iraqi people are, there history is long and well analyzed, instead the Americans thought they could get rid of a dictator and bring "democracy". Stupid, ignorant, arrogant Americans.... they don't know the kind of ball that they have just started rolling!
Well said ballaamir. The Brits and French failed but the arrogant US think they can make the world bend to their will. All empires have this same dillusion. Look at the Roman Empire, when the Empire finally fell the people of the 'conquered' regions went back to their ways. The only thing the US Empire has achieved is the export of it's trashy worthless culture.
It's about resources, which they are lacking. The US is funding the minority group, which was the dominant group under Saddam. This is a strategy used for decades, where occupying countries keep the occupied country unstable...giving the minority group the power. This will always result in discord throughout the country.
You named the 2 parts of this show different things, I think the first part was called the tribal awakening or something, it's not immediately intuitive to see these 2 are connected.
Great segment, I really am unable to find much information from inside Iraq here in Canada, AJ has been doing a great job of covering the people and events of Iraq, thanks and keep up the great work
that was one mistake we did is removing saddam from power only him could keep this country stable

I'm not sure who's more shady, American politicians who thought of this plan or these shaiks.

1)Churchill designed the boundaries of Iraq across tribal lines to assure continual infighting & instability
2)Saddam knew money buys alliances
3)American soldiers & America will continue to suffer via attrition
4)Currently the only beneficiary to the killing are corporate elites put in place by Cheney
5)Iraq has more Shiites than Sunni (Iran is mostly Shiite); the USA is the Sunnis only friend
6)Like post-Nazi Germany, the USA will have to pick up where Saddam left off!

Bottom line, the US has positioned it so it will have to be the 'babysitter'.

Tom - Saddam was the old "baby sitter"
Except he (Saddam) benefited monitarily
Today the only financial beneficiaries are the corporate elites implanted by Cheney

AlJazeera has to hire competent labelers. If this is Part 2, where is Part 1?

The American foreign policy strategy of "kneel, suck, and swallow" does not seem to be working anymore.
