  • It's never too late and we all "awaken" to adoption realities at different times--I believe when God knows we can handle it. Thanks for writing. Sherrie

  • Many parts of Betty Jean Lifton's book Journey of the Adopted Self captures what's going on inside my head. I'm middle-aged and only started realizing that my being adopted makes a difference. Accepting the conservative view that adopted people need to be grateful and shut up is one reason I worked hard in all the wrong directions all my life. Now that I'm looking into my birth parent's history I'm starting to gain some self confidence for the first time after over 40 years and starting over.

  • Biological influence?! *confused face* Anyway I applaud your work. Very good. May I also recommend a book, "The Primal Wound" written by Nancy Verrier, an adoptive mother; I recommend it for all adoptive parents. It deals with the trauma associated with the child's separation from his birth mother. Another good book is Joe Soll's - can't remember the title but you can get it at adoptionhealing.or g.
