  • I am confused... I thought the slope formula is the m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) and it is written in the book, but what about the graph shown above in the video...?

  • @Aslan77728 that is the slope of a line, you are correct. not sure where i violate that though.

  • I wish you where my math teacher.

  • Thank You!

  • I get it!! Thank you for explaining things so clearly.

  • better than my honors pre-clac teacher! thanks

  • im pretty sure u hear this alot but ure videos are a real life saver thx alot :)

  • you saved me from an F. thank you so much

  • "horrible little bracket"??? then mine are a piece of crap! It helped me tho! thanks. I had completely forgotten how to do these.

  • thank you!! my calc professor considered this a "review" so he flew through it. i understood this in high school calculus but now it's like this is totally new to me D:

  • thanks

  • for the absolute value function, can't you just chop it into 2 different linear functions and then find their equation

  • THANKS

  • Wow, thank you SO much for this video :D You just saved my butt! Thanks again!

  • Thank you sir!! this was a great review :)

  • who can translate piecewise to arabic please T-T

  • shit i wish you were my teacher..my teacher dosent even know how to teach.

  • Smart teachers rock. Thanks for the review.

  • @Alexvreidy anytime !

  • Thanks patrick, im a 9th grader taking honors algebra 2 and this helped me sooo much, you have no idea :D

  • thanks alot, because my teacher just taught us this and i had no idea what she was talking about your explanations are simple and right to the point! thnx again!!

  • @CamiLee120 happy to help : )

  • how do you find the equation if you have a fraction as the y-intercept?(how should i find the y-int. in this case)

  • about the absolute value what does a and b means in this equation: y = alx-bl + m

  • You just saved me and my grade on my Alg 2 project. Bless your soul, Patrick. Consider me subscribed.

  • @iSadiee14 : )

  • I learned more in 8 minutes then my actual 90 min class, thankss! :)

  • Thank you so much!! I am in a college algebra class of 300 students...our professor is great, but the class fast paced and the TA's in the discussion suck!

Great video that I will be adding to my notes....Thanks again!

  • Your video teaches me better than Thomas Calculus book ! Thanks :)

  • Wow. This just helped me more than you can understand, Patrick! Golly I'm so glad!

  • @nitterpixi happy i could help! : )

  • goodness. i love you man. <3<3<3

  • my precalculus professor needs to take some lessons from you..thanks for sharing..

  • thank you! i just re learned two months of pre calc i didn't remember!

  • Thank you so much!! you legit saved my life

  • I'm with 9363Dude. This helped me with my AP Calc class on the 2nd day of school! Thanks a lot.

  • @RallySlotUs you are very welcome

  • Helped with my High School AP Calculus homework, thanks.

  • YOU ARE SO GOOD

  • now i think it is really better and you can learn better if you study at home, taught by your mom or dad or simply by PATRICKJMT than sitting at school listening to your teacher

  • You're a better teacher than my teacher, and I'm already in the front row trying to listen while she eats her own English words.

A million hats off to you.

  • What would be the function of a line with an arrow on one side and a white circle on the other?

  • very helpful!! but can you plese do some on parabolas??

  • this is amazinggg! my teacher is awful and this helped me so much. thank you!!!!

  • I was ready to pull my hair out after our lecture yesterday in my algebra and trig class on piecewise functions because i had NO IDEA how to do it correctly. My teacher didn't even explain to us about using the point slope formula to get the formulas. This is very precise and thorough, exactly what i needed plus you saved me from failing my homework Thank you!!!

  • i was freaking out because im making 3 different accounts just tto subscribe. x)

  • Thanks for the video but I need find out how to graph something akin to f(x)=x^2-[x] with no numbers to insert. Please pm me.

  • Thank you so much for this video, it has really helped me get ready for my final exam!

  • Thanks so much for your videos. My pre-cal teacher is THE worst teacher ever. These are super helpful!

  • Thank you SOOOO much! I was absent this week because I was sick and this helped me understand this function better than if I had been at school!

    Great Teaching!

  • what about finding the function for a continous function, like a triangle wave?

  • thank you

  • I finally get it My calc teacher wasn't clear on it

  • I have an important pre-cal test tomorrow and this is the last thing I needed to study, thank you so much. If I pass, I own it to you!!

  • Thank you so much! This video helped a lot for my assignment that I didn't get at all. You are a life savior! :)

  • dude thanks for the help! i actually understand this now!

  • Hey thanks again for this video as well!! These are very helpful!!

  • I understand Now! :D

  • Great video, you teach better than my algebra 2 honors teacher. Can you make a step function tutorial video?

  • @lilghost121 i have one, it is the ' greatest integer function ' video

  • @lilghost121 Tell me about it. This guy should try tutoring or teaching for a living (durp, he probobly does).

  • Thank you! This is really great!! I actually understood it! O_O But, what if you have a semi-circle?

  • for the middle one (the abs value) would f(x)=x-2, -2<(or equal to) x <(or equal to) 0

    f(x(=x-2, 0<(or euqal to) x <(or equal to) 2

work? Bacause what i did was a said tht the 2 sides or the abs value were 2 different picewise parts and that the vertex was only a closed circle for one of the f(x)'s

  • ah you are a life saver! i really needed this, i was getting so depressed because i couldn't figure out how to do this. much better explained than my professor!!! thank you so much again! :D

  • This video was soooo amazing, thanks sooo much, truly!!! :)

btw for the last function you wrote why did you use the point-slope formula?

  • thankyou so much. very helpfull! :)

  • thank you so much for this video..it helped a lot!!!

  • i dun understand why the first one is only y=0 :(

  • y=2*

  • better than listning to my teacher lecturing it the whole entire hour!

  • both piece wise video's taught me so much more than when my honor's calc teacher tried explain it to my class. Your a life saver man! Thanks so much!

  • Hi, I liked your video! Can you please check out some of mine?

  • Thank you sooooooo much.

  • thanks ,, Man u make it easier !

  • wow this was 10 times more helpful than my teacher

  • I just really wanted to thank you for all that you do in general it really has helped me out a lot. I have a test tomorrow with this being a main portion of it and up until now i didn't really understand how to do it. Once again thank you and i know i will be using your video's again someday haha

  • whoa!!!! you're maazingly great!!!! thanks...:)

  • thank you very very much! it was very helpful hearing it explained this way so thank you!:) im ready for my test now! ha

  • This video was veryyy helpful!! Thanks sooo much!

  • You explained this so much more thoroughly than my accel math teacher. thank you so much!

  • @misirlou234 glad i was able to help : )

  • you're a lifesaver!!!

  • I could learn calculus in a weekend with you as my teacher! Why cant teachers explain things so vividly thanks

  • good vid. could you explain absolute value to me? it went right over my head. is it always 1x1 (if on point of origin) or does it change from 1x1 to something else if the sides of the v are steeper or longer?

  • I understand the segments finally, thanks to your video, however I'm still having trouble with the ray segments. Your example includes all points at the end of the segments but no arrows. I tried to use the point-slope formula as you did here, but none of my answers are coming out right.

  • this helped me so much! thank you :)

  • THANK YOU!!!! :)

  • im subscribing!

  • You make this sooo easy!!!! Thank you =)

  • thanks man, you save me. i have a chinese teacher i couldn't even understand him. and you make it so much easier

  • Thank you very much. You saved my little sister's algebra grade :)

  • thanks !

  • lol at 4:00 he said "mmmmkay" like in south park lol....but thanks for the vid it was very helpfull

  • Dude ive leaned more in these 2 hours of looking at ur videos than ive learned in 2 weeks no joke... should have done this at the beggining would have seemed the smartest in class lol jk :p

  • For the open circle, what makes a point "not included in the graph"?

  • OMG! UR A GENIUS!!

  • Thank u man!

  • thanks man saved my ass got a project do tomorrow on piecewise functions ....lol

  • thanks alot!!

  • thanks, this helped!

  • You saved me!! Thank you!!!!

  • thank you so much i hate calculus ab

  • learned more about piecewise here than a month of learning it in school. this was SOO much help, i'm subscribing.

  • Thank you thank you!

  • This was really helpful! Thank you!

  • merci beaucoup!

vous etes le nouveau dieu de mathimathique du monde!

  • Omg..i am in love with you.. ....seriously in love with you. You are so much help. I need loads and help..i hate math but my majo is engineering and last time i took math was in highschool when i was a freshman ..i took time off..now i am back in college taking precal and i dont understand a thing..but the way you teach..i like math...i understand it...but i have so many question..how do i find your email address? ...and you handwriting is so perfect...thanks a millioz..zillion......

  • how would high school do that to you? I HAD to do math all of the 4 years

  • Can you teach my school? :D

  • thank yooooooooooooooooooooooooooou very well explained : )

  • hey, patrick your videos are great.. they are straight forward and clear.. I see that lots of people agree with me too

Lol now I think it's easier to learn over youtube than from my math teacher.. haha

  • can you explain why you wrote the 3rd one in red and not the first. Meaning why did you do the y sub1 thing for the 3rd and not the first?

  • Can you post a video where all the pieces are actually touching? I have Pre-Calculus problems where lines are touching cut-off parabolas at a solid point. Thanks!

  • i hope ur a teacher to somebody; the world needs more teachers like u

  • I'm a quadriplegic paralyzed from the neck down, so I use the computer for all of my math equations. I am taking calculus at a local community college online, and I watch all of PatrickJMT's explanations to truly understand concepts. Thank you very much.

  • How can u be paralyzed from the neck down and be able to type?

  • I use a stick that I bite on and peck at the keyboard. Recent Advancements in voice technology has allowed me to utilize it for writing messages such as this, but voice technology is somewhat useless when it comes to math... for now.

  • i wish u were my teacher

  • thank you so much!

    I completely understood it!

  • i kind of got it...

    you explain it very good...

but do you know where can i

    get the info in spanish...!!!??

  • sorry, i do not know spanish, so the video is not in spanish, english only! sorry!!

  • thhaaanks man, very helpful

  • Thanks so much! My instructor expected us to know this and yet he never gave any indication. Thanks so much.

  • This makes me wish I had taken an online course instead of having to suffer through my teachers lessons.

  • amazing. you should be a math professor!!

  • Thank you so much..I have seen the light!

  • you are AWESOME. thank you so much. my teacher just graduated and she doesn't even know how to do this herself.

  • sounds like good ole american mathematics instruction

  • YES! thank uyou so much. I have a really horrible math teacher and I was lost until I saw this! Thank you!

  • lol same here, thanks mr. JMT

  • oh yea! glad to help my friends!

  • this was great good job
