I am confused... I thought the slope formula is the m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) and it is written in the book, but what about the graph shown above in the video...?
thank you!! my calc professor considered this a "review" so he flew through it. i understood this in high school calculus but now it's like this is totally new to me D:
I have a question. The points on a graph on my homework are (0,6) (3,2) (8,0) and they are all connected by by two lines with solid endpoints. My function equation is:
f(x)=-4/3X + 6; 0≤x≤3; and f(x)=2/5X + 16/5; 3≤x≤8. But the book answers the second part as f(x)=2/5X + 16/5; 3<x≤8. If you think my answer is right and the book is wrong please tell me; or if the book is right explain why? Thanks
thanks alot, because my teacher just taught us this and i had no idea what she was talking about your explanations are simple and right to the point! thnx again!!
Thank you so much!! I am in a college algebra class of 300 students...our professor is great, but the class fast paced and the TA's in the discussion suck!
Great video that I will be adding to my notes....Thanks again!
now i think it is really better and you can learn better if you study at home, taught by your mom or dad or simply by PATRICKJMT than sitting at school listening to your teacher
I was ready to pull my hair out after our lecture yesterday in my algebra and trig class on piecewise functions because i had NO IDEA how to do it correctly. My teacher didn't even explain to us about using the point slope formula to get the formulas. This is very precise and thorough, exactly what i needed plus you saved me from failing my homework Thank you!!!
for the middle one (the abs value) would f(x)=x-2, -2<(or equal to) x <(or equal to) 0
f(x(=x-2, 0<(or euqal to) x <(or equal to) 2
work? Bacause what i did was a said tht the 2 sides or the abs value were 2 different picewise parts and that the vertex was only a closed circle for one of the f(x)'s
ah you are a life saver! i really needed this, i was getting so depressed because i couldn't figure out how to do this. much better explained than my professor!!! thank you so much again! :D

I just really wanted to thank you for all that you do in general it really has helped me out a lot. I have a test tomorrow with this being a main portion of it and up until now i didn't really understand how to do it. Once again thank you and i know i will be using your video's again someday haha
good vid. could you explain absolute value to me? it went right over my head. is it always 1x1 (if on point of origin) or does it change from 1x1 to something else if the sides of the v are steeper or longer?
I understand the segments finally, thanks to your video, however I'm still having trouble with the ray segments. Your example includes all points at the end of the segments but no arrows. I tried to use the point-slope formula as you did here, but none of my answers are coming out right.
Dude ive leaned more in these 2 hours of looking at ur videos than ive learned in 2 weeks no joke... should have done this at the beggining would have seemed the smartest in class lol jk :p
