It's a flaw to say "all animals have feelings" and "all animals have no feelings", because it depends on the animals.

To my knowledge, all mammals, like cats and humans, experience emotions like happy, sad, angry, etc.

A lot of animals like coral, jellyfish, anemones and sponges do not have a brain and are emotionless.

Of course animals have feelings! Read up on it in When Elephants Weep or The Other End of the Leash. I don't know how anyone can have contact with a dog or a cat or even a pig and not know that animals have as many feelings as we do. Mammals have the same brain layers we do. All of them. They feel, they play, they socialize.

@SkatingForSatan Animals do have feelings. Can't you tell when your puppy is happy and barks playfully? Or when it's scared and tucks in it's tail? Or how about when it's sad and cries? Animals don't have the same morals as humans, which often makes people think don't have any feelings, but that's not true. Morals such as, caring about sexual things don't matter to animals, but they still can be sad, and they're still happy at times, because they still have emotions.

@kaylesemma If you are referring to the physical size of the brain, then it has nothing to do with anything. If by "size" you mean it's capacitor for intelligent though, then your mostly right. I don't think something without self-conscious awareness can feel pain or joy in the same way we do. I am not sure if anyone has ever proven whether animals do or don't have feelings, but as this is not an opinionated question, an answer does exist somewhere.

Dogs and other animals may not be able to think idealistically, mathematically, or morally, (they don't care about nakedness or sexual things), but does lack of knowledge really mean they can't feel? Does a mentally retarded child not feel?

If an animal does not even have the ability to understand it exists, then how can it have feelings? Could you feel anything if you weren't conscious to feel it? Feelings are a human concept. I think animals are more unable to understand the rest of the world and probably more wrapped up in there selves more than anything else, like young children often are. Their mentality isn't very advanced so they can't see that much of anything else. No offense, but I think it seems a bit riduculous to think something can't even tell it exists.

I never said that feelings are something only humans can I have; I said feelings are a concept made by human beings, a self-conscious creature. The term "feelings" cannot be applied to anything that is not aware, as it is a concept created to describe a phenomenon that stems from self-consciousness. You said babies are not self-conscious, so let me ask you, did you have feelings when you were a baby? Tell me how you felt.

I think this is where we really split into complete different dirctions. I believe in the possibility of things other than science. You believe science can explain everything. You can't tell what you felt as a baby because you can't remember, but are you going to tell me now babies don't have emotion?

@ImmortalAcorn Weather anyone wants to believe it or not I would personally say that all living creatures have emotions and definitely a soul I am on the cusp about inanimate objects but its possible. Plants definitely have emotions. Remember this just because you can not communicate with it does not mean its meaningless, has no soul, and or has no feelings.
