The thing that I think Anime have over Cartoon is they have more stories targeted at different age group, as well as variety of gengre. I can pick from action to comedy to sad stories.
While Most cartoon are just funny. Though some are pretty awesome as well, Zeta Project was awesome, too bad they stopped it.
But what the heck, just watch what you want and stop fighting.

I have moved on to Manga, watch what you want. Ive pretty much given up on Anime personally. I kind of just grew out of it, I just like the Manga now, because it has alot more humor. Where as the Anime seams to be more focused on the plot, with less humor. I've pretty much shifted to a new interest and plan to stay with it.

It's the storyline that decides how things happen. DBZ attempts a more realistic one, but there are anime where things are unrealistic. Being a nerd I know this ^^ Like in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, he got run over in a train in one episode, and it was made out to be all dramatic, but then the next episode he was fine.

first of all id like to say that im somewhat a fan of anime. shows like one piece (japanese/funimation version) and dbz are some of the most popular in the world. but i have to say that when someone actually thinks about it and looks at theissue from a neutral veiw, american cartoons would win. now i dont mean crap that nick or cn makes nowadays, i mean south park, family guy, disney (before crappy pixar movies), and looney tunes.
Pokemon and bullshit like what's depicted in this video is only a small part of Anime. There are a few good American animation shows (like the 90s animated Batman show), but not many. American animation is poor quality for the most part (walk past that lamp how many times now?). A lot of Anime is done because it wouldn't be practical or just way too expensive to create a live-action series of a show. Trigun is a good example of this, or any Gundam series. Way too expensive for live-action...

It's like a harry potter book. Bleach: (insert character) got kidnaped but I have to get stronger to kill the 13 bad guys.

Althought Naruto may not seam to different to you when watched in Japanese. Animes like Sonikku Ekkusu have a drastic change, when watched in Japanese. Suck as stuff that was taken out by 4KIDS; Episode Title Cards, Eyecatchers, Next Episode Title Cards, Cursing, and Mild Blood. What I'm tryin to say it the Japanese version is better.

In regard of the American vs. Japanese cartoons, I PERSONALLY prefer japanese anime.
They tend to have a more developed story and more complex emotional issues.
I'm not saying I dislike american cartoons (I love the early 50-60'ies cartoons), but they tend to be a bit too meaningless and voilent. Anime does have a violent aspect yes, but they put relations and emotions in focus and develops it from there.
So if you want to see pure art, see Mushi-shi (japanese audio).

I am a person who wanted to learn Japanese as a second language for fun, but gave it up because I felt I can't complete my goal because I'm American. You asked me what am I, I don't know at the moment, I'm stiil deciding over American or Japanese animation as a choice of entertainment. The difference between US cartoons and Japanimation is that Japanese cartoons just go a little but further, more blood, more violence, more complicated, etc. Which is why Japanimation is interesting, and not only for kids like most US cartoons.
Anime is hardly aimed at teenagers... that's probabily the common ideia of someone who doesn't know jack about anime. Anime is aimed at... all sorts of audiance, you can't really make that kind if statment. Anime works pretty much like movies: There are movies for kids, teenagers and adults alike. And so there is anime for all these kinds of public. And just like movies there are lots of topics covered by anime, Sci-Fi, Action, Romance. You just choose what you want to see.
There are anime for different demographics, however, the biggest target audiences for anime are either young children or otaku, most of anime is made for either of those

I have moved on to Manga, watch what you want. Ive pretty much given up on Anime personally. I kind of just grew out of it, I just like the Manga now, because it has alot more humor. Where as the Anime seams to be more focused on the plot, with less humor. I've pretty much shifted to a new interest and plan to stay with it.

It's the storyline that decides how things happen. DBZ attempts a more realistic one, but there are anime where things are unrealistic. Being a nerd I know this ^^ Like in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, he got run over in a train in one episode, and it was made out to be all dramatic, but then the next episode he was fine.

Pokemon and bullshit like what's depicted in this video is only a small part of Anime. There are a few good American animation shows (like the 90s animated Batman show), but not many. American animation is poor quality for the most part (walk past that lamp how many times now?). A lot of Anime is done because it wouldn't be practical or just way too expensive to create a live-action series of a show. Trigun is a good example of this, or any Gundam series. Way too expensive for live-action...

Hey thanks, a ton of people hate me for my list but heres the thing, some anime goes on forever without any varying plots Naruto for example goes on with a "oh my god (insert character) is actually a villain or, oh my god (insert character) got killed off then it continues with training and then big battle with character. Althought Naruto may not seam to different to you when watched in Japanese. Animes like Sonikku Ekkusu have a drastic change, when watched in Japanese. Suck as stuff that was taken out by 4KIDS; Episode Title Cards, Eyecatchers, Next Episode Title Cards, Cursing, and Mild Blood. What I'm tryin to say it the Japanese version is better.

In regard of the American vs. Japanese cartoons, I PERSONALLY prefer japanese anime.
They tend to have a more developed story and more complex emotional issues.
I'm not saying I dislike american cartoons (I love the early 50-60'ies cartoons), but they tend to be a bit too meaningless and voilent. Anime does have a violent aspect yes, but they put relations and emotions in focus and develops it from there.
So if you want to see pure art, see Mushi-shi (japanese audio).
It's stunningly beautiful.

I am a person who wanted to learn Japanese as a second language for fun, but gave it up because I felt I can't complete my goal because I'm American. You asked me what am I, I don't know at the moment, I'm stiil deciding over American or Japanese animation as a choice of entertainment. My problem is, I can't find a Anime thats actually worth watching more than once. My choice of Anime is a joke to some people, so now I'm just trying to find one favorite Anime I like.

Also, Naruto is not amazing, it is by far the worst to the worst, it doesn't involve much fighting at all and it take three or more episodes to see what happends next. Naruto didn't even put up a good fight with Sasuke in Naruto Shippuden, infact, Naruto didn't fight him at all and your going sit up hear and tell me its the best and "I" know it, while you stating opinions uchiha0heir, I'm stating facts, did Naruto fight Sasuke no, he got his ass beat, stupid show, case closed.

Also Naruto is too reckless, he not even smart when he gets hit, he could atleast catch himself from a fall, but no, he gets his ass beat time after time. Then he has the nerve to not be smart about any thing he does and often times leads to his failure. new american cartoons suck anways but so does naruto...cartoons like tom and jerry and scooby doo still kick ass...i hate japanese shows like naruto but i love shows like Hellsing and Elfen Lied...they are filled with so much violence(and before anybody says anything...tom and jerry is also a violent show, like putting tnt and shit in a sandwich and smashing each other with bowling balls and crazy stuff like that...AWESOME)

Anime is aimed at teenagers and are just as cheesy and horrible as the cartoons you see now on cartoon network (Gym Partner, KND, Chowder, etc.)

Not all anime is for teenagers.
The difference between US cartoons and Japanimation is that Japanese cartoons just go a little but further, more blood, more violence, more complicated, etc. Which is why Japanimation is interesting, and not only for kids like most US cartoons.

Anime is hardly aimed at teenagers... that's probabily the common ideia of someone who doesn't know jack about anime. Anime is aimed at... all sorts of audiance, you can't really make that kind if statment. Anime works pretty much like movies: There are movies for kids, teenagers and adults alike. And so there is anime for all these kinds of public. And just like movies there are lots of topics covered by anime, Sci-Fi, Action, Romance. You just choose what you want to see.

It appeals to the adolescent age group in America. What full adult you know watches Anime. I believe so that most people that have put comments on here expressing their love for Naruto are in Middle School and High School. They either watch MTV reality shows or Anime.
There is no need to get too technical with who watches it. I'm just saying that most teenagers watch it.
