Absolutely Chris! People may be surprised what one fan can do for any media or product. Using forums and blogs as a fan of media, you will tend to chat about what you enjoy and this leaves a buzz that others will take note of; Subtle and on purpose. The same as with sales.
Check out my profile here at UT Chris and my MS blog link is there. Since I do this for free-accept for one client-have ended up getting to meet some great people and almost never pay for concert tix. SWEET!
Anyways, know you're busy as heck, but if you get a chance and want to know more, hit me up sometime Chris
Yes, publicist of a 'brand new sort'. I realized over a year ago that the blog scene could work for free music publicity. Also a way for musicians, studios, labels and anyone in the bizz, cvan use my blog space as a jump station to each other and it took off like a shot! i am the first to do this, that I am aware of and have watched as my aquaintances began to mimic my actions.
Well check MySpace, CherryTap or Facebook. Musicians and managers are basically selling themselves and producing/distributing there own material. Yes, Prince gave away 1,000,000 copies in the U.K. only and you had to get it from a single exclusive retailer. His label went ballistic over this stunt.
Heard of biffy clyro? They don't give it away or anything they just have freakin amazing fan base, they look after the fans and the fans look after them :)
Yeah i heard about radio head, fine idea, why the hell not. but, i dont download music, the reason is why does more modren the format get compressed, the quality gets lost. MP3 music is alot better than it used to be, but its still not as good as CD's vinyl for shear quality
I'm glad somebody FINALLY has the good sense to realize this. It's so unfair when record labels charge people so much to download "digital albums", when mp3 is so inferior to CD quality!
The trouble with older music is that the 'artist' doesn't really own it, the record company does. This makes it unlikely it would be made downloadable for free. Time will tell ;)

Prince had to maintain his rebel status, so to speak.
Since I am a publicist of some brand new sort, I get alot of free CD's anyways. The Prince album is pretty good by the way.

The future of music and media? I know a little Chris....Chris? do you ever check the UT comments? Hehee.
I am a music publicist on retainer. WHat is happening with the big labels and the indie musicians.

Music and media has to redefine itself since its business model isn´t longer viable.
Content has to be democratized, people won´t pay to publishers and so, they will reward content and the very creators behind. No more, no less.
