@Ged8506 I was of course astonished by many of the scenes in their films, but one day while attempting to digest "Miller's Crossing" it occurred to me that I'd been had - the scales fell from my eyes and I realized there was nothing TO understand - that the entire film was nothing but an exercise in style designed to bowl over the viewer independent of his mind. Now you can get away with stylistic films if you have a real point of view to go with your skill (e.g. David Lynch). The Coens don't.
@Ged8506 What is art if it devolves to voyeurism? I can think of dozens of examples of films dealing with "the heart of darkness" that were nevertheless firmly centered within a moral universe. The Coens have unsurpassed technical skill and so they get away with these nihilistic visions. But even in the limited realm of the suspense film they are bettered by e.g. Hitchcock, who managed to be both droll and moral instead of unremittingly dark. The praise heaped on the Coens is misplaced.
The Coens are really nothing better than sadistic, puerile voyeurs of suffering, nihilists and pessimists without any moral firm ground on which to base their tales of violent and insane pornography. They will never enter the realm of the great directors, even though a thousand similarly morally and spiritually bankrupt critics say otherwise.
you guys sure 84? i thought 85 or thats when i saw it in theatres. do we go by release date or when it was shot.
ooo what I never forgot walking into a theatre that was letting out the care bearsmovie and we were all waiting to get in. and the kids were tellling us what a great movie it was. am i making sense?
Cohen brothers or not, this movie was VERY bad. It wasn't even at B movie status. There is a reason why you never heard of this movie when it came out. It's because it's aweful.

Sorry. I wish I didn't have to cut before the laugh either, but Youtube only allows only a maximum of ten minutes, so I had to work within their restriction. Thanks for the positive feedback, though.

@Ged8506 Some principle of life that does not induce further pessimism and is likely universally true.

@antimatterXXXIII shut the fuck up you pretentious, phony pseudo moralist. I can't think of a better modern tale of morality than Fargo.

Imagine Nicholson would play instead of Walsh. Could have been one of best movie sequences ever!

I'll tell you what, the Coen brothers can't make a bad film. Even the Ladykillers had its moments.

Sorry. I could only fit ten minutes worth of footage. I wish I didn't have to cut it there either. Alas, I had to work within their limitations.
