high octane guitar synthesiser pop with a divit of melancholy and an understanding of the sad and simple struggle of the young working classes, pulp did it better than anyone. a contemporay classic that has stood the test of tuture time.
This song is still so much better than the crap I'm hearing in the blatant corporate constipation of music in North America. It has something to say and its catchy as hell.
Pulp...basicaly sum up my life coming from the stand point of being a Brit. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I believe that everyone can find something that has happened to them in thier lives that relates to at least one Pulp song.
yeah, Nirvana was definitely a great band but it seems like Britain produces a larger number of really good bands, more so than America. although lately music has been pretty good everywhere.
I agree, the reason that Pulp and Suede were both so underrated was because of the ongoing and very public feud between the Gallaghers and Damon Albarn
What a song, this should have been so much bigger than it was. A call to arms for everyone who didn't do well on dancefloors or in nightclubs and is fed up of that being the be all and end all. Plus some great shapes thrown by Steve!
"Whats the point of beign rich, if you can't think what to do with it, cos your so bleeding thick"
Beckhams, anyone?
Javis is nmarried by the way, so that's fcuked all the homophobes and the thick bastrads that can't tell the diffrence between a little camp and homosexuality.
To swelter7: Although he was in a gay relationship for a year according to magazines in 1994 which I don't recall him ever denying. But then Jarvis is comfortable enough in his sexuality to not care what the media thinks. He's probably bisexual.
i remember this song so well. was a crazy fan of pulp at time. i collected all the singles - and this one came out as a double realise with Sorted For es and whizz - and the one of the singles packaging showed you how to make a little tablet wallet - which i made, badly!!!! Great song though!
Ah, the first Pulp song I ever heard back in 95 and liked it on the spot! Liked 'em ever since! I was weird really, I came from a estate full of the tracksuit wearing idiots that are in the vid that started the fights, but I listend to Pulp and Oasis ect. And yes, I used to get shit for liking them!
by the way i think that franz's version of this is not bad its acoustic (at least the one i have heard)its a nice twist to the song.plus it gives this song a new opportunity for more people to listen to it and trace back to where its from which is pulp.
i'm just getting into jarvis and pulp since i first listened to air's new album.i really like how jarvis'songs are written. jarvis is a true genius! i really admire the guy from all the songs i have heard of him there all well written. and like others it would be so great to see pulp together. i never knew of them the first time around but it would be amazing to see them tour around here in san francisco or atleast a tour with him, air, and charllote gainsbourg now that would be amazing!
one of the greatest bands to ever grace this world and dont let anyone ever put you down jarvis, how i wish you and morrisey would work on something together, that would be truly awesome
they both worked on nancy sinatra's latest album. she does "don't let him waste your time" which jarvis later recorded and put on his latest album as well
Fair enough you dont like Pulp, but how can anyone say they were bad? look at all the talent they undebatably had. How charasmatic Cocker is for example.

jarvis knocker or what ever his last name is...oh to be english right?? yeah guyz that try to do this " english" thing over here in the states get called gay boy for sure, fashoinable.. we got westerns and wwf smackdown and 4x4 trucks and get rich rap his muck everywhere with paris hilton and show's like yo mama..this list could go on....
And that's exactly why us Brits laugh our fucking arses off at you pathetic rednecked idiots across the pond. Your collective lack of intellect never fails to astound me. Please, go on. You're only making yourself look more stupid.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The reason they don't come out of the closet is the society. We all know they're gay or bisexual. And this is like not say what my preferences are because it's going to affect my career. They call it "personal life", I call it defense from the outer world. It's a shame that people have to hide because of an ignorant and oppresive system.
pulp r still my fave band this tune is about being diffrent "thats our minds " its about people using there heads ,and the society we live in is fall of chavs and why cant the rest of us do what we want 2 do ,wear what we want 2 wear without attitude its not about being gay straight black or white
You've just said it!! They're not openly GAY, maybe they are secretively GAY, but they are GAY!! .. The truth is out there, don't be so naive! Again, there's nothing wrong in being gay.
I say whatever I want to say you ignorant beast! Besides, it was just a comment and you still don't get that I have nothing against being gay or not gay. Read before making any statement! and again, I SAY WHATEVER I WANT TO SAY ...
we never sed that you were against gays, just the way you acusethem of being gay or bisexual when you quite clearly havent done your research dickhead
Some people live in the world of the False and of the Manipulated ... that's why politicians have total control of you, because you believe everything anybody tell you. Reproduction of organisms that are both male and female exists (hemafrodites). They are sexually speaking more instense than anybody/anything else.
Besides, I don't believe in such a thing as asexual. Everything that has life in this planet is sexual, plants, animals and humans. To deny sexuality is not only a big lie but a death statement toward life as well. So, my friend, don't be soo naive !

The reason they don't come out of the closet is the society. We all know they're gay or bisexual. And this is like not say what my preferences are because it's going to affect my career. They call it "personal life", I call it defense from the outer world. It's a shame that people have to hide because of an ignorant and oppresive system.

You've just said it!! They're not openly GAY, maybe they are secretively GAY, but they are GAY!! .. The truth is out there, don't be so naive! Again, there's nothing wrong in being gay.
JohnLennon100 4 years ago
They are Mods you twat not gay. It's about their music not their sexuality. You are a tool and clearly not a pulp fan so piss off!!!

Some people live in the world of the False and of the Manipulated ... that's why politicians have total control of you, because you believe everything anybody tell you. Reproduction of organisms that are both male and female exists (hemafrodites). They are sexually speaking more instense than anybody/anything else.
JohnLennon100 4 years ago
Besides, I don't believe in such a thing as asexual. Everything that has life in this planet is sexual, plants, animals and humans. To deny sexuality is not only a big lie but a death statement toward life as well. So, my friend, don't be soo naive !
