Macau has done a much better job of preserving its old town than Hong Kong but it's certainly changed a lot in the last 10 years. I remember going there in the late 90s as a boy for lunch at a restaurant in an old fort overlooking the water. The fort is now overlooking the highway!
At 1:35, the restaurant with sign to the left of the statue was my great grand father's favourite. Four generations of my family dine there and it's still at the same location! Thanks again Michael!
Somehow I wish I was born then, too bad they are all different now. I would like to visit Macua one day also. And when I go if I go, I shall remember your videos and you sir, thank you again.
@MichaelRogge well... the sea side in the clips becomes two lakes. The Sai Van lake and Nam Van lake. At least we can still see the water. By sitting there you can see the Macau Tower but you can't see the old boat. It is still beautiful but not like the old times.
To be interesting, that time was the top level era of Macau grass hockey. All portuguese schools of Macau were compulsery to practising this sport, some players were also playing in HK league, including the brother of my grand-father.
bobchewaing must be a Chinese... Portuguese did not watch Chinese and on the contrary, were not allowed to speak Cantonese at home!!! Chinese do speak Portuguese, but not that many...
No, Chinese in Macau knew very little Portuguese back in the Colonial days. The opposite were the Portuguese born in Macau all speak fluently Cantonese. In the early 60's the Portuguese children did not allowed to watch the western movies and love to watch Miss Fung Po Po.

@MichaelRogge 我本人是童年那個年代的澳門人.很懷念以往澳門純樸寧靜的情景.今非惜比,只能給人一種回憶.慨嘆現今繁榮淹蓋純樸與寧靜 kellyche

As I said in my description: they lost. But don't ask me after 58 years the score! I remember that the Dutch always lost!
