No, that is not how a projector works. That is what a projectionist has to do to make it work. How does a projector actually work? Geneva movement, perhaps? Light behind the film? Lenses to project the image onto the screen? That is HOW a projector works. I think you need to do a bit more research, Mr brain, then re make this video.
"non-sync" means any audio input that's not synced to the film. If there's no input to the nonsync, then there's no sound. Advertisement audio, CD music, etc would be considered "non-sync". I'm the Chief Projectionist at the Imax in Austin Tx, winner of the 2010 "Best IMAX Booth" award. Google "imaxguy" and on youtube as therealimaxguy. Search for "IMAX Projectionist".
Like, miserable. No mention of pin register, anamorphic lens, lens throw, aspect ratio, shutter, or any other significant details. It's like saying that the way a car works is that you get in it, turn the key, and drive off. Very weak presentation. Way to go, babes!
stupid video. each cinema has a different setup and a different way of doing things. projectors vary, this particular one had equipment rediculously outdated. For example, modern film projectors had built in lenses and appeture plates which automatically switch we dont "mount" them before each show, hardly any mainstream cinema uses these anymore. And yes GarretBMXes, digital projection is already taking over properly with all cinemas set to be fully digital in the coming years.
This reminds me of a feature I saw once about how plastic is made. It showed comb being made, it didn't show what it said on the tin. Show us the workings of the mechanism.
Don't ever submit an article to How Stuff Works. I submitted an article on "How Motion Picture Projectors Work" and they rejected it saying that it was too "outdated", yet a month later, Marshall Brain published his own article containing the SAME "outdated" info mine had. When I called him out on it, his legal department e-mailed me. Unfortunately, you can't copyright ideas. He changed just enough of the wording so that I couldn't take legal action. Thanks Brain.
eh threading aint so bad after a while... once you know how to do everything it pretty much becomes second nature and you can thread a movie in no time.
Digital projection is really Digital "VIDEO" projection, folks! It's interesting how that word is conveniently not used in movie ads, etc. Why would you pay money to have the same type image that would get from your TV set at home?
Theaters that use digital VIDEO projection then should also allow you to bring in chips, beer, sofas, talk out loud, etc. You know..so you get the true VIDEO experience!
Digital Theater's are crap!!!,You mean to tell me that you would pay what it cost in this day and age to go to a movie theater and basically watch a movie that's based on a DVD or hard drive?? That's stupid as hell!!!!, DLP has no business in a movie theater at all
There is nothing in the world that can top the clearity and sharpness of 35mm,70mm Film "Film is the future of HD"
Film has a resolution greater than digital cinema. It can be enlarged as much as you want without losing any detail. Same cannot be said for digital as artifacts are present on screen.
haahh they still use film u knob head but that projector is really old the new ones u down even have to touch the film its self u just have to feed it in.
He's right. Film is still being used. All digital movie theatres are rare. Often times the preview ads are projected on a digital projector. But the actual movie is on film. Even IMAX is film.

I love how when he mentions checking the sound, its set to "non-sync", meaning there would be no sound at all.

DVD resolution lines: 480
Blu Ray: 1080
Digital Cinema: 4000
It's alot better then what you will see at home. and 4k is approx the same resolution as 35mm but with alot better colour and not more flickering.
